Re: Is It Too Soon For Thoughts On Pick #9?

There are some Day 3 guys who have returned punts too. The best-known is probably Texas A&M's Ainias Smith, but Anthony Gould (Oregon St), Tayvion Robinson (Kentucky), Xay Weaver (Colorado), and Jalen Calhoun (Duke) all have plenty of experience returning punts and some decent production at rece...

Re: Caleb Williams News and Rumor thread

I did note that they were minor. Still, an amalgam of minor red flags may combine to make a major one. But that's why NFL teams do their investigations. Even calling those things red flags feels a bit melodramatic to me. At worst they feel like parts of his personality quirk that you want to know s...

Re: Is It Too Soon For Thoughts On Pick #9?

Stuff like this really does help GMs sort through the list. What he did was bad judgement, but it doesn't change my opinion on him too much. From reading everything, it seems like he was compliant, wasn't intoxicated, didn't illegally obtain the firearm, and agreed to surrender it as a condition of...

Re: Bears sign C Coleman Shelton to 1yr $3M deal

I think they signed Coleman to start at C and traded for Bates to be insurance inside. I'll be surprised if they don't look to draft someone to be the the heir apparent to Coleman, especially with him only inking a one-year deal.

Oh, yeah, if the Bears draft someone who can return punts, Pettis' roster spot becomes much more precarious.

Thunder, you make several good points: there are MINOR red flags. Nothing which would set alarm bells screaming football wise except in the world of ultra-dissection of a prospect examinging everything he's ever said or did back to kindergarten. I did note that they were minor. Still, an amalgam of...

Re: Caleb Williams News and Rumor thread

I really don't think they did. They traded a #1 overall pick for a top tier WR, had a great TE at his disposal, used their top pick after trading back on an OL. They changed the offense to suit his style. Provided a strong defense. I'm not saying the team was perfect, but let's not act like they di...

Poles is not part of the same front office that drafted Justin and threw him to the wolves after Week 3. He's not part of the front offfice that drafted Trubisky and threw him in after game 4. He's not part of the front office that traded for Cutler and then never invested in the line in front of hi...

Re: Justin Fields traded to Pittsburgh for conditional pick

For whatever it's worth, I think history (e.g., looking at the ROI for the Panthers in the Sam Darnold trade) and contract (one year remaining) was a confluence with a collection of available guys who only cost money, not draft capital, working in tandem against the Bears here. No team wanted to rep...

https://twitter.com/ggabefootball/status/1769133720252936505 Gabriel being against it automatically makes me feel better about the trade all by itself. His contract is part of it, to be sure.

But I'm sure surprised he had less value than Mac Jones. He's a better QB.

I've heard things, from sources I trust, that give me pause.

It doesn't mean he's not talented, nor that he hasn't performed. It means there are concerns.

Dismiss them without investigation at your peril.

Re: Bears re-sign WR/PR Dante Pettis

Pettis is a reliable PR (note, not an exciting one, but more than you can say for VJJ or Tyler Scott), an adequate downfield blocker, and a 5th WR on a good team because he knows how tto be a professional.

The Bears can do (and have done) much worse.

The consensus appears to be that the back half of this draft is trash. NIL has a bunch of what would be early entrants staying in school. From the director of the Senior Bowl, Jim Nagy: https://x.com/JimNagy_SB/status/1749086720497189051?s=20 I remember reading this from Nagy back in January, yeah....
