I already gave up on Shelley during the pre-season and now I'm done with Christian. I'm ready to ask Vildor to play NB and bring in Burns as CB2 for the nickel package. I don't think it's an overreaction to week 1 - these guys didn't get it done this summer either.

Forget nickel package, I don't know why they're not going with Burns on the outside always and Vildor getting a shot at NB.crueltyabc wrote: ↑Wed Sep 15, 2021 1:56 pm

A tiny Day 3 corner just isn't a realistic starting candidate.
But if they want to burn a few games convincing themselves, I guess that's fine.
If they're actually trying to evaluate backups already (they aren't - just making a baffling first choice), I'd rather see DHC at FS and some Herbert at RB, though.

If the nickel spot was settled by Marquis Christian winning the job, decision makers on the coaching staff had no choice to but to un-settle that particular issue. Christian is a complete liability at corner.
Shelley probably won't fare much better.

I thought Shelley played OK towards the end of last year. Wonder if he is struggling with what Desai is wanting him to do?

People seem to think Vildor was ok in that game and I haven't watched all-22 so I'm not trying to deny it yet.Moriarty wrote: ↑Wed Sep 15, 2021 2:35 pmForget nickel package, I don't know why they're not going with Burns on the outside always and Vildor getting a shot at NB.crueltyabc wrote: ↑Wed Sep 15, 2021 1:56 pm

Christian was ok in the preseason when the offenses weren't doing anything complex. He's a safety that has barely played at his designated position, let alone a new one.

They should’ve kept Trufant and played Vildor at nickel, but Bears

Apparently some people want Shelly to jump from the sidelines to knock a pass down or tackle a guy. But I'm pretty sure that's a penalty.

No - Sitting is what really improves a guy, apparently. The Cooler King wrote: ↑Fri Sep 17, 2021 6:48 am Well hopefully competition breeds improvement.

Shelley was bad today. The nickel spot remains a concern.

He was pretty bad at times - it's no good when the announcers are using your name and saying "again....". Duke was a decent tackler but really was lost in coverage more times than is OK. He was not as bad as Skrine was last year - but we'll see once he's facing a Rodgers. You show that & they start picking on you. I'd still like to see DHC get a chance at NB. I kind of liked Roberson actually. It doesn't seem like Shelly's replacement level is very high - so no harm in experimenting. The Cooler King wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 3:45 pmAt least the outside spots seem relatively answered. 15 more games to try and find an in house guy, but I suspect they'll be looking at FA solutions for 2022.

Very bad - it's a real problemBears Whiskey Nut wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 3:59 pmLike bad...bad, bad.
You know who's name is not getting called a lot? Vildor's. I'd have to go back and watch, but I think he's anchoring that 2nd CB position pretty well.

We should’ve signed Breeland this offseason - he was affordable and available. We’d be a lot better if Vildor was the nickel.

Perhaps it's time they elevated Thomas Graham Jr from the Practice Squad. After all he was a 6th round pick who might have gone higher if he hadn't opted out of last year due to Covid concerns. I seem to recall a lot of talk about him being suited to playing nickel when he was drafted and quite a few articles about him being a potential draft steal. Didn't PFF have him ranked as one of their top 100 players in the draft? Anyway, given the absolutely dire performances of Christian and Shelley in the first two games would it hurt to call Graham up to the squad and give him a chance to show what he can do even if it isn't as the full time starter?

He got roasted in the preseason, I believe.HisRoyalSweetness wrote: ↑Mon Sep 20, 2021 5:45 pm Perhaps it's time they elevated Thomas Graham Jr from the Practice Squad.
