He was my guess, too. Next step in Fox's quest to bring his old team East.docc wrote:30 years old..RING4CHI wrote:Connor Barth is your mystery kicker per Biggs.

I really thought the Bears would try to go younger. Much younger.docc wrote:30 years old..RING4CHI wrote:Connor Barth is your mystery kicker per Biggs.

dumb... Slauson 2.0
A couple bad kicking games in years has just become a guarantee of bad kicking at least a couple times a year.

I wanted Gould cut after the second miss in Minnesota. This is about 8 months too late in my opinion.
50%. 32 of 64 kickoffs went for touchbacks.BPo001 wrote:Anyone know how many touchbacks Barth had last year? I feel like that's something Gould struggled with. Just couldn't kick it out of the end zone.
Gould was at about 47%.

Plus...with the new 25 yard line rule.....do we know they are even going to 'want' touch-backs.RING4CHI wrote:50%. 32 of 64 kickoffs went for touchbacks.BPo001 wrote:Anyone know how many touchbacks Barth had last year? Wow. Don't like it. Barth better do the job or Pace looks like a knucklehead.
What does anybody care what Gould's touchback numbers were? With the new 25-yard line touchbacks, it incentivized teams to kick the ball short enough to entice a team to run it back and catch them before they get to the 25. Kicking it to about the goal line achieves that.

Mikefive's theory: The only time you KNOW that a sports team player, coach or management member is being 100% honest is when they're NOT reciting "the company line".
Go back to leather helmets, NFL.

You're going to see a lot of kickoffs pooched into about a 4-yard window. Between the 2-yard line and two yards deep into the endzone. Dare the returner to bring it out or guarantee themselves 25 yards.DaDitka wrote:Plus...with the new 25 yard line rule.....do we know they are even going to 'want' touch-backs.RING4CHI wrote:50%. 32 of 64 kickoffs went for touchbacks.BPo001 wrote:Anyone know how many touchbacks Barth had last year? Same. His misses in 2015 were killer.wab wrote:I wanted Gould cut after the second miss in Minnesota. This is about 8 months too late in my opinion.
I was done with him after the 49ers game. The Bears, shitty as they were, had no business losing to Jim fucking Tomsula and Blaine fucking Gabbert last season. Yet Gould just pissed the game away. He did it against Washington later in the year too. It's like what the hell are we paying you all this money, one of the highest K contracts in the NFL, for when you don't do shit when it matters?

This is a very fair point.
Especially considering the new kickoff rules. During preseason games, kicking on a shorter field Gould was still landing kicks shy or just across the goal line.
Field position is going to be huge for any team that's playing in close games & I'm guessing the coaches know that our ST units are going to struggle in the first few games= kickoffs need to be unreturnable.

It surprised the heck out of me. I can understand it though. Lately his nick name in the chat room has been Robbie Shankar. I wish him the best, he's been good Chicago Bear!

though I was surprised by this announcement, I had a bad feeling after the missed extrapoint in the last preseason game.
I hope the Bears under Fox will be luckier than under Lovie in the 'Bringing his buddies home' pattern.

I'm gutted that we have let Robbie go from a meatball fan view but I can see why from a franchise view! If I have lost confidence in him recently then John fox seriously must have and once your H/C loses confidence in the kicker it's lights out!
Is Barth better? No and this is now going to be a hot seat of mediocrity! Expect a short leash to the kickers gentlemen.

Agreed. His arrow was pointing down after last season, and missing an XP (even if it was in pre-season) was the cherry on top.wab wrote:I wanted Gould cut after the second miss in Minnesota. This is about 8 months too late in my opinion.
Thanks for the memories, not sad at all to see him go.

He missed 2 PATs last week. Singlehandedly cost us 2 wins for certain last season and possibly another close game where he missed a kick. That's unacceptable when he's getting paid the GDP of a small country.GSH wrote:Didnt he miss a PAT in the last preason game? An extra point?

He's a legend of the club for sure but misplaced loyalty to underperforming veterans is what kept us from rebuilding for so long.
Barth isn't an elite kicker but his stats over the last 2 years are pretty close to Robbie's and he's worked with our long snapper in the past so they should be able to get up to speed pretty quickly.

I said this last year. When a kicker starts to lose his confidence, its possible that it just never comes back. Once they start questioining their aim, contact point, etc. They're done. I think he lost it after the Minny game, and never really got it back.

The timing here is so strange I'm getting the feeling there was a convo between Gould and Pace that got weird. Or Gould and Fox? Robbie was such a big voice in the locker room and he was a Lovie guy...

I wonder if it coincided with his poor performance against Cleveland as well as the fact that Connor Barth was made available.crueltyabc wrote:The timing here is so strange I'm getting the feeling there was a convo between Gould and Pace that got weird.
