but by him saying that, isn't he still sort of putting Sims out on a limb?
why not just say he has an illness, he is being treated and there is no further information at this time?
It seems that he did say that. Then was pressed about it, and put into a corner.
Not sure what else you want. Everyone knew Sims was/is sick. The media was trying to find out what it's all about, and Fox kept his mouth shut. As it would appear he's legally in a bind to do so.
I mean, I don't see where anyone isn't doing their job here. Kind of just a non-story.
Weird dudes around here that need to know what kind a germs a garbage TE has when he won't even be a bear anymore and you'll never have any contact with him anyhows. Lol

it is team related news coupled with a curious manner in which the team is speaking about it ... so yeah, that seems a team related point of interest
as to the details of his illness, no, we don't really care (or I don't) ... but I do care about how the head coach can continue to simply bumble his way through even simple stuff

What?
Okay, there's pessimism... there's disliking a coach... then there's just looking for a reason.
Give me a break. lol
I'm not even saying that it's not worth acknowledging as being something that you simply don't hear everyday. However, trying to spin this into another anti-Fox crying thread is ridiculous. I want him gone like the next guy, but yeesh.
Mikefive's theory: The only time you KNOW that a sports team player, coach or management member is being 100% honest is when they're NOT reciting "the company line".
I would also go with mono. It's not contagious in a football setting and probably why Fox said "they're not worried about that part right now". Fox also used the phrase "he's tired", mono causes extreme fatigue and can last a month. I feel this may be a blessing in disguise, it gets Shaheen on the field more. He sure looked good with the ball in his hands.

Yes and no. He's on the injury report, he hasn't practice for weeks, that's public info. It's natural to wonder what's up with a player on a pro sports team, especially when that player plays for the team you root for. I feel the Bears are making it a bigger deal than it really has to be.

I don't particularly need to see more of him and I want to see more of Shaheen. So I don't especially care.
Not that anyone cares, but my guess was mono also. I also don't think they're being particularly evasive about it, Fox spews meaningless crap about basically every injury anyway.

if the Bears were even an average interesting team, things like this wouldn't occur ... because there would be thread after thread of actual football and team related discussions
alas, the Bears have instead led us into a no mans land of football ineptitude with a coaching staff that seems to be way in over their heads and a team that is inconsistent, generally disorganized and is down the home stretch of yet another losing season
