Henry Burris - CFL star who was an embarrassment in the NFL for the Bears ... so went back to the CFL where again was a CFL star :
A belated congratulations to ex-Bear Henry Burris, 2016 Grey Cup champion and MVP
For Chicago Bears historians, 2002 provided two historical footnotes:
* A full season with home games in Champaign, Ill., while Soldier Field was renovated
* One-time starting quarterback Henry Burris
The rest of Burris’s football career has been anything but a footnote. After his short run in the NFL, Burris returned to the Canadian Football League and launched one of the greatest careers in that league’s history.
Including his first four seasons of professional football from 1997 to 2000, Burris has played 17 years in the CFL and is third in league history in passing yards. He is all over the league’s record book, has won the league’s Most Outstanding Player award twice, led his teams to the Grey Cup championship twice (plus once as a reserve), and won the game’s MVP award twice.

Kordell Stewart was one of those acquisitions that really stood out to me as a newer fan. I knew he was going to be terrible, and sure enough - he was. It was the start of my "Why the hell are the Bears doing this?" mindset that hasn't entirely faded.

That was a move that was kind of a head scratcher. The team was not set up for him and he was done at the time he came over. I remember him being pretty gun shy.
Henry Burris, made for the CFL.

Hugh Gallarneau, 1941-42 and 1945-47. He rushed for 1421 yards and scored 33 TDs for the beloved over that time frame. He started 32 of 53 games played. 3rd round pick in 1941 out of Stanford.
In the 1941 NFL Draft, Gallarneau was selected in the third round by the Chicago Bears. He played for the Bears for the 1941 and 1942 seasons. Gallarneau still holds the Bears' record for the longest punt return in a postseason game, returning a punt 81 yards for a touchdown against the Green Bay Packers in the divisional playoffs to help lead the Bears to the 1941 NFL Championship game.[2] The return also remains the third-longest in NFL postseason history.[3]
In 1943, Gallarneau joined the Marine Corps to fight in World War II, where he fought in the Pacific Theater and rose to the rank of Major.[1] He was a member of an Air Warning Squadron during the Battle of Okinawa and was responsible for directing night fighters to intercept incoming Japanese aircraft[4] He returned to the Bears for the 1945 season, and played three more seasons before retiring in 1947.[1]

Papa Bear himself, 1920-28, played end.
Ed Sprinkle
Ed Sprinkle
Ed Sprinkle, who gained a reputation as “the meanest man in football” while playing for the Chicago Bears, leveling quarterbacks with ferocity in becoming a rugged prototype for pro football’s pass-rushing defensive ends, died on Monday in Palos Heights, Ill. He was 90.
His daughter, Susan Withers, confirmed the death.
Even by the N.F.L.’s roughhouse standards of his era — the 1940s and ’50s, when players like Chuck Bednarik and Bucko Kilroy of the Philadelphia Eagles and Hardy Brown of the San Francisco 49ers were notorious tough guys — Sprinkle stood out.
He weighed only 200 pounds or so, but in his 12 seasons with the Bears, he flattened quarterbacks with a powerful forearm delivered to the nose, jaw or throat, a legal tactic at the time that earned him the nickname the Claw.
“I never really played dirty football in my life, but I’d knock the hell out of a guy if I got the chance,” Sprinkle told Stuart Leuthner in the oral history “Iron Men” (1988).

Yeah. I will they haven’t come out with it yet, but that will be sick. If anyone on that defense deserves the throwback, it’s Mack.G08 wrote:1947 throwback Mack jersey would be fucking nasty bro, do it!!!Bears Whiskey Nut wrote:I ordered an orange Biscuits jersey this week.
