Deon Bush needs to put together 3-5 preseason games of quality tape to convince me he's simply not playing the role of bumslayer. That said, I thought he did a fine job.

Irving and Fitts looked good to me, making me worry less about our pass rush. Houston-Carson and Bush are showing good development and that pleases me. Javon Wims is looking like the sneaky steal of our draft. Some of the Oline depth are looking like they are also developing good.

I was really disappointed with the line play. It's preseason and back ups, but several of those dudes looked lost.

Offensive line depth has been pretty horrid for a few years now, but that's part of the deal when you're deficient everywhere else. They had to prioritize so many "skill" positions that need elite athleticism, all the while never really addressing the underbelly of the offensive line. It's something I hope Pace re-prioritizes in the coming seasons.

Sowell was bad, Kush and Morgan looked rusty and a little lost, Dejon Allen is so so so raw and lacks lower strength, Jack Allen showed why he can't stick on a team after a fairly decent career at Michigan State.

Overall I was most impressed with Coward, followed by McCants, Green, and Watford.

I thought Morgan looked like the worst player on the field at times. I'm already done with that project and it's Aug 3 of year 2. He looked terrible to me. I'm pleased with our DBs and worried about our ILBs. I'd like to see Wims, Gentry, and Bray against the 2s next game.

Surprised no comments on the helmet penalties yet. While some may have been questionable I go back to this simple thing, you are taught in Pee Wee football not to lead with your head. Head to the side, shoulder into the gut, wrap and drive. Others have been taught to tackle face to breast plate of shoulder pads. No kid is ever taught to lead with their head.

The first one I agreed with without a doubt. The Bears WR/RB (can't remember for sure) was on his way down, if not down at the time and the Raven came in head first. It was a no doubter. One, no reason for him to come in for the hit anyway. Second, he definitely came in crown of helmet first. I think it time these NFL players will learn, it is just a matter of how long it will take. Pretty simple rule IMO.

Kudos to you for focusing on OL play in the first preseason game. What serendipity it would be if Coward came out of nowhere to be a usable swing OT.

Leading with the crown and lowering the head have been 15 yard penalties for some time now, and I agree that first one and another one were clear cut examples and yes, it's pretty simple.

However the new rules that seem to include what we've all known for years to be normal football hits, particularly on offense.... that even the officials don't seem to know where the line is drawn.... is anything but simple.

Perhaps the most interesting thing for me was what I didn't see in the game. On the one day at camp, I saw the Bears--particularly in the red zone--line up with 3 TEs many times. Often in the red zone, it was zero TEs. We rarely saw 2 TEs at all, much less 3. And I fairly commonly saw an interesting motion action, where a WR went horizontal behind the QB and then from behind the slot, turned to go behind the RB in a reverse action. Never saw that once in the game.

Saving for later.

and talking heads reported that the first 5 throws in redzone work today were to tight ends, in multiple sets. i'm not really sure how you can look at any one particular day when they're installing a whole new offense and draw any conclusions.

Also at this point in the year, you have to evaluate why you would keep certain WR's over others. Or even have a guy in your back pocket in case someone gets hurt.
I will kill you if you cut me at the knees. You will drink with me when invited and stay til I say so. We only listen to American Music. I make men nervous with just my presence. I expect an apology if you hold. I throw linemen at QB's. Believe the Lore!

Clearly that's fair. I only saw what they did those days. And for the record, the 3 TE stuff they ran on Friday wasn't seen on Monday. It does tell me that they're trying all extensions of the offense in practice to evaluate how well they do with it.

The number of missed opportunities in this game drove me crazy (yes, I know it's preseason). That sack fumble on Bray, Daniel Brown was WIDE open in the endzone. That slow ass release of Bray didn't help (nor did his backside protection).

2 point conversion that could have won the game, the flat was open as was the late releasing eligible offensive lineman.

Oh well, learning phase of camp.
