In 2014, when the Bears got embarrassed by the Packers coming out of the bye week, Ginny had seen enough, and things were put into motion at that point. It's a known fact that McCaskey contacted Rocky Wirtz about building a winning franchise like the Blackhawks. I'm sure he told George what Tom would have told him. Go out, hire the best, and get out of the way. Draft well, and lock up young talent at almost any cost.

Remember, Michael McCaskey gave up the reigns in 1999, and George has only had a few winning seasons since, and nothing that was sustained. George saw what happened on the Southside in 2005, he saw what happened when Rocky took over the Blackhawks, and what was happening with the Cubs. George isn't dumb. The Bears franchise is the only company that the McCaskey's own or run. So, winning seasons = capital appreciation. The Ricketts bought the Cubs in 2009 for $985M, and now that franchise is worth well over $2B. George wanted to win, he just didn't know how to put it together. Luckily he a) had some model franchises in his own city, and b) he was willing to talk to them about how they went about it.

So yes. There is a correlation between the Cubs and what is going on with the Bears right now.

This was my prediction before last night, and I'm largely sticking to it. I need to see the Jets and the Lions tonight to see what they look like. Darnold MIGHT be the real deal. Not sure yet. But if the Defense can ball out, and the offense can bring a few things together, 9-7 or 10-6 is still a possibility.

@Green Bay L - 24-17 - I think its a new offense, and some D players with little exp in the scheme.
Seattle W - 31-21 - Seattle isn't the force they used to be, and their OL sucks. Mack feasts.
@Arizona L - 17-14 - AZ is a solid team that had a bad year last year.
Tampa Bay W - 24 - 10 Bucs are still bad. Winston is regressing.
Bye
@Miami W - 35 - 14 Off the bye, against a mediocre team. We finally see what a 'bye' prep looks like.
New England L - 27 - 24 Brady picks apart a young secondary. Not as bad as last time.
NY Jets W - 27 - 20 Jets still have no idea what their doing at QB. Darnold is not ready.
@Buffalo W - 28 - 13 Buffalo is a mess. Nuff said. Josh Allen is still raw.
Detroit W - 31 - 14 Lions play better indoors. Their OL sucks.
Minnesota L - 17 - 14 Defensive gem. Both teams get after it.
@Detroit W - 24 - 21 Late take away, with a 49 yd FG seals the deal.
@NY Giants L - 28 - 13 Saquon Barkley has a good game. Bears slump.
LA Rams L - 34 - 17 Bears are improving. But they aren't Rams good yet.
Green Bay W - 27 - 20 Bears Offense starts clicking. Looking strong. Mack gets to Rogers a couple of times.
@San Fran W - 31 - 14 Bears finish strong. Sherman looks done. Garoppolo gets picked twice.
@Minnesota L - 28 - 24 Bears lose their last game to the NFCN champions.

@Green Bay W. Nagy keeps some cards up his sleeve for the opener and they, along with some suffocating D, are enough to get us over the line. Excitement reaches fever pitch!

Annoyingly that prediction wasn't that far away. Happily I thin we can still go 11-5 the rest of the way out.

Seattle W. Another good defensive performance gets us through as the offence is still finding its feet a little.
@Arizona W. Bradford can't overcome our pass rush which remains hearty and healthy. The offence once again does enough despite a long day for Jordan Howard.
Tampa Bay W. The offence gets in on the act in a blowout.
Bye
@Miami W. Not as comprehensive as the Tampa win but a fairly convincing game.
New England L. The 5-0 Bears are talked up as Superb Owl contenders, pretty much just to talk up NE and Brady. We keep it close but after the loss are still dismissed as pretenders.
NY Jets W. Another convincing win against a rebuilding team to get back on track.
@Buffalo W. Rinse repeat of the previous week.
Detroit W. Detroit are going to be bad this year, just a hunch.
Minnesota L. Billed as a NFCN decider, we take a heartbreaking loss but...
@Detroit W. We get their number in game one and run with it here.
@NY Giants W. We get revenge for the sack fest by taking it out on a spent Eli Manning.
LA Rams L. Another loss to pump the brakes a bit. Our depth is starting to get tested after a few injuries.
Green Bay W. A sweep of the Packers? Yes please.
@San Fran W. The Garoppolo hype train has left the station by this point and our offence can overcome their defence.
@Minnesota L. A decider for division title leads to a loss but making the playoffs is a hell of a consolation prize.

OK, we're almost at the end of week two. Any surprises? Any teams that you would change from a L to W, or a W to L.

I still need to see the Bears play Monday.

The Lions are NOT good. Neither are the Bills. The teams that surprise me are New England and Arizona. I think we may be on the downhill slide of the Brady era, and I thought the Cardinals would be better than this.

The two teams that confuse me are Miami and Tampa Bay. Not sure if they are good, or not. What is certain, is that Jameis Winston has lost his job for right now. Fitzmagic is slinging the rock man. WOW!. 27-33 for 402 yds and two TD's?

Bucs improved with Winston suspended. Cards suck. Pats will find themselves, but hopefully too late.

I still don't think 10-6 is out of the question. I'd consider 9-7 and a shot at a wildcard spot a rousing success.

Through 5 games, we're 3-2... here's my quick rapid fire gut take moving forward:

New England - L
NY Jets W
@Buffalo W
Detroit W
Minnesota L
@Detroit L
@NY Giants W
LA Rams L
Green Bay L
@San Fran W
@Minnesota L

Looks like 8-8 for me... maybe we can steal one against Minnesota at home and Green Bay at home... but as far as I'm concerned Aaron Rodgers owns us until further notice.

I now think we take one of the games against the Vikings which, from my original prediction, puts us at 11-5.

If we do a number on the Patriots next week I still think we can end up 12-4.

Part of me looks at that schedule and thinks they lose to New England and don't lose again until the Rams game. It's not a terribly daunting schedule.

I don't see the Bears getting swept by both the Packers and Vikings.

Green Bay W

I stand by 10-6.

I started the season at 10-6 which included going 3-1 against the AFC East and 2-2 against the NFC West. So while it looks like I might be a game behind my projection after Miami, San Francisco is looking more vulnerable than I originally thought. I'll also stick at 10-6

24 hours after the loss in Miami, I feel better about the whole thing. It sucks, but Miami has one of the better secondaries in the league. Our defense was gassed in that heat, and never recovered. If that game was played in Chicago, we win 28-10. knowing what I know now, here's the rest of the season.

New England - W
NY Jets - W
@Buffalo - L
Detroit W
Minnesota W
@Detroit L
@NY Giants W
LA Rams L
Green Bay W
@San Fran W
@Minnesota L

I think we can beat Minny and GB at home, but somehow figure out how to lose to the Bills in Buffalo. We will beat the Pats at home, IF we can get pressure on Brady. Hopefully Mack is healthy.

I'm very comfortable with my 9-7. I think we lose vs. NE next week and start out 3-3. Then finishing up 6-4 makes sense. I originally thought the 9ers game would be rough and the Minny game could be a gimme with them resting guys heading to the playoffs. Those look like much different games now.

I doubt Minnesota sweeps us, and I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if we sweep Detroit. I also expect to beat GB after it took a friggin miracle and game 1 Trubisky to eek out a 1 point win at home.

Believe me, I get it. But this defense will never look like that again. There was a play in overtime where Mack was still on a knee a second after the snap. The humidity completely destroyed them. And I don’t think this offense is going away either. Brighter days are ahead.

12-4? This town would go nuts.

Chicago would begin clearing space for Nagy’s statue if he could pull off a turn around like that.

A) the town IS going nuts
B) He did pull a worst to first turn around
C) I heard they are casting a statue of Nagy the size of The Statue of Liberty, to be put out near the breakwall in the lake.

Surprised I never posted in this thread. I had the Bears at 6-10 though. So glad I was way off.
