I feel for him. One of my favorite all time players. Not being able to finish the last 4 seasons has to be tough.
UOK wrote:Long probably tore his ACL. Could hear him screaming and swearing after the play. Ankle, knee, something. Seasons over for him.
Nagy is calling it an ankle injury.

Apparently a foot injury. Can't imagine not being serious though.

Looked like it got fiercely rolled under. I bet it's broken. Too bad. Feel for the guy.

If it wasn't broken, and just severely sprained, he would have been able to walk off the field. You saw the other Bears players waving for the trainers right after the play. I'm sure he broke it, he knew it, and was telling his teammates to get the trainers.
It sucks. He just has never been able to shake the injury bug. An amazing OL when he was healthy. That may well be the end of his career.

As harsh as it is to say, a 30 year old guard with shot legs and a sketchy neck shouldn’t be in the Bears plans going into next season.
And I love Kyle Long.

Nope. OG should be at the top of their list in the draft.wab wrote:As harsh as it is to say, a 30 year old guard with shot legs and a sketchy neck shouldn’t be in the Bears plans going into next season.

Drafting a top OG, and cutting Kyle Long will make a lot of sense. Even if you have to eat the last 4.5M of his contract. If his ankle is as bad as it sounds, he's not going to be back in time for the beginning of next season. Not with his injury history.

Eat the 3M in dead money without blinking and enjoy the 5.5M in cap savings.Funkster wrote:Bears Whiskey Nut wrote:Nope. I wonder if this new 6'7" guy Witzmann is going to take Long's place going forward.

I had that thought as well. Based on what we've seen since he's been here I don't know why we could expect that, however.wab wrote:I wonder if this means Daniels at center and Whitehaor at RG?

I understand the thinking here. But I think the team will let Long decide what he wants to do.Moriarty wrote:Eat the 3M in dead money without blinking and enjoy the 5.5M in cap savings.Funkster wrote:Bears Whiskey Nut wrote:Nope. You can cut him for $3M and get $5.5M in cap space...

From an hour ago:
Colleen Kane
@ChiTribKane
Bears coach Matt Nagy said he'll be able to share more on Kyle Long's status in the next 24-48 hours. He said the Bears will have Eric Kush back this week after he sat out Sunday with a neck injury. Bears sorting through how they'll shuffle line if Long is out.

The sentiment is nice, but this will be the 3rd year in a row where he's placed on IR (assuming the worst this year). Even if he doesn't go on IR, he hasn't played a full 16 games since 2015 and has only played a a full 16 games twice in his career.Mikefive wrote:I understand the thinking here. I understand the team giving grace to a veteran that has sacrificed his body for his team, but at some point we have to remember that the NFL is a business. And keeping a guy around that is only averaging 8 games a year over the last three seasons isn't great business.

Long seems to have some pretty bad luck ... he got rolled up on and was caught in a bad spot ... can't blame him for that ... but it does add another question mark to his resume

Yawl ruthless.
If he doesn't hurt our cap numbers then keep him around. Loyalty counts for something. Just my opinion.
At least when healthy he earns his paycheck. Can't say that for all the Bears

He does, though. There's no maybe to that.EricTighe wrote:Yawl ruthless.

Mack made the cap tight. And Long is expensive for an interior lineman who's mostly a pile of spare parts at this point.

I love Kyle...he's one of my all time favorite Bears. But how does keeping a guy that will have spent three straight years on IR makes sense?EricTighe wrote:Yawl ruthless.

Loyalty and sentimentality are fine concepts and all, but not at the cost of what is best for the team in the long run.

Kevin White won't be on the team next year either... so...EricTighe wrote:Though it may make sense in what you are saying, it is still ruthless.
As far as three straight years on IR.... hmm I don't know maybe Kevin Whits
