Loved playing for Gregg Williams. More than Xs/Os there...The key for the Bears, IMO, is hiring a defensive leader who allows Nagy to continue his focus on offensive game planning. And Gregg could fit that role.

Shit...

I have a lot of respect for Bowen and what he does. Do I have to start buying into this Gregg Williams idea?

Does the fact that he’s a narcissistic crazy person bother anyone?

Yes. I watched that Browns video, and he just comes off a little weird. Like he's just not all there. At this point, I'm just going to give myself up to Nagy and Pace. Trust that they are going to do the right thing for the Bears. They got us to 12-4 in their first year together. I can't argue with that.

I'm a piece of shit when it comes to football so no I don't care about bountygate or what a nutcase he is as a coach. If his players like him and he can get the best out of them, bring him on board ASAP.

I dunno... none of the candidates do anything for me.

Agreed. Motivational tactic and a kill-shot mentality. Kind of has been legislated out of today's football so I don't see him using that method anymore.

Ok, does it bother anyone that he’s only had 4 top 10 defenses in 16 years?

That's a legit concern.

Mike Nolan might be my top choice.

These names are all so uninspiring to me, Williams includes. Blah.

Losing out on Bowels was a big blow to us. He was the only person out there that really inspired me. Greg Williams brings aggression, but too much baggage. Maybe we should promote Donatell from within since he could bring some continuity. He's also done a great job with our DBs, and will probably walk if we do not promote him and then we lose that as well. He (reportedly) has no HC aspirations at this point so if he worked out he'd stay for Nagy's tenure (hopefully 20+ year coach like Pitt does if he is good for us in the long run). Possibly our D line coach Jay Rodgers is worth considering as well, also has done a fine job and could bring continuity. Glen Piers our LB coach has also done a fantastic job and has a decent resume.

Outside I just don't feel inspired at all. Maybe Mike McDonald from the Ravens, as they had a good D but not certain that's better than Donatell and certainly less NFL experience. Or Chris Hewit from the Ravens secondary coach is possible?

Seattle's assistant HC Clint Hurtt is considered an up-and-comer, was with us in 2014, but I don't feel I know quite enough about him.

My buddy told me this morning that now Rob Ryan is emerging as one of our possibilities, and I wanted to puke.

I'm on the "Anyone but Ryan" train. Literally. I'll take the DC from the Sisters of the Worthless Miracle College over Rex Ryan.

Internally obviously Donatell. I think Jay Rodgers has promise, but there would be a bit of a learning curve. The defense has the talent to overcome that though.

Outside of the organization, the only guys I'm even remotely interested in (now that Richard is the front runner for the Fins gig) are Hurtt, Macdonald, and Caldwell. I think Caldwell is my top choice.

The re-treads aren't inspiring. The only one I can live with is Nolan. Everyone else has too much baggage, is too damn old, or has failed too fantastically for me to even want to consider.

Again, I'm showing my Bears scars here... but I worry Ed Donatell would be akin to Mel Tucker.

My only saving grace is that Donatell has been with Fangio for 7 consecutive years.

This is just so fucking annoying. If Cody Parkey hit that fucking kick we wouldn't be having this conversation right now.

It occurred to me last night that maybe the Bears job isn't such a good one, since they're already at the top. Therefore, as the new sheriff in town, there's nowhere to go but down. And you know you're following a legend in Fangio.

Compare to Tampa, whose defense was SO bad. They have nowhere to go but up.

:(
Mikefive's theory: The only time you KNOW that a sports team player, coach or management member is being 100% honest is when they're NOT reciting "the company line".

Go back to leather helmets, NFL.

Meh. Player for player, the Bears are a much better option. Bad players get good coaches fired.

Bowles had already told Arians he'd join him in Tampa. His word is the reason he's there.

Had Vic been announced as the Broncos HC 12 hours earlier, Bowles would probably be the Bears DC.

I guess we will get that due to the KC connection.

The Andy Reid Connection runs deep. Harris played for Reid in Philly before he was on the KC staff with Nagy.

That Al Harris only coached for 2 season under Singletary at SF. He was a DL, pass rush specialist. Has not coached since to my knowledge.
