Hard to argue with letting Amos go and signing someone else to a contract. Guess it will all determine what Amos and his agent think his value is?

This is going to be one of the more interesting positions to watch this offseason.

Honestly, letting him walk will come down to how they feel about Bush more then who they want to bring in.

I think it’s real likely he’s playing elsewhere. Good player, but I’m not sure we can afford him. And Bush performed well when he stepped in, and I see him as more of a natural fit for Amos’s position than Eddie Jackson’s anyway.

I tend to agree here. I'd love to keep a home grown guy like Amos. But there is that whole salary cap thing.

Amos will probably get us a compensatory pick as well.

I agree with some of the above. It comes down to what he and his agent demand versus what the staff feels about Bush.

With the class of FA available in FA's I do not believe we will get that high of a comp pick.

Hopefully the list of FAs can bring down his price as well. Though looking at tag of FS I always thought he played SS role.

Amos spends most of his time in the SS role..That said, before Eddie Jackson arrived he was our FS.

He can play FS but IMO he’s better suited as a SS. His game went to another level when he made the move. He’s such a great tackler and he’s much more physical then Jackson.

On a side note, once Jackson went down we saw Amos move back to the FS role and he played pretty well.

I have been assuming Amos would be the player the Bears would let walk, but I think it is now more likely that Amos is back than Callahan.

1. Strong safeties do not seem to get big contracts in today's NFL, especially when they have average physical traits.
2. Bush may be a serviceable replacement, but if he becomes a starter then he will just be a free agent after next season along with Houston-Carson and the Bears are right back where they are currently with Amos.

We will have to see how the market plays out, but Amos could end up being a value signing, especially compared to Callahan with his injury history and the premium paid to corners in free agency.

Amos probably wants a contract valued around what Micah Hyde signed in Buffalo or a John Cyprien like deal in Tennessee.

John Cyprien signed a 4 year, $25,000,000 contract with the Tennessee Titans, including a $3,000,000 signing bonus, $9,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $6,250,000

6 million average sounds about right for Amos. Question is whether we can pay that.

I think most likely we’re looking at retaining one of Callahan/Massie/Amos, just due to finances. Some of it may depend on how the markets play out for each position.

If I had to guess, it sounds like a very weak OT free agent class, so Massie might get overpaid a bit. I’d like to see Callahan back, since he stood out as more of a difference maker to me and we might get a bit lucky with him coming off injury.

Amos is solid, and I’d like to have him back. Wouldn’t surprise me if he just doesn’t fit into the financial restraints we have.

Cut Dion Simms and that is a wash.

It isn’t only the this year impact. They are going to need to set everything up for when Trubisky comes due his payday or it will be a mass jettison that year.
