Bears sign Massie to 4 year extension
Moderator: wab
My only question with resigning Massie was that I wasn't sure what Harry thought of them. Massie has a narrow waist and high center of mass that isn't ideal for the OL that likely puts a ceiling on his level of play. The results were good though last season and Harry must have signed off. Massie signing eliminates the one position they would have had to for sure draft for need, which would have been far from ideal with only limited picks in later rounds.

I'm ok with it I suppose. I just wish they'd find a blocking scheme and stick with it.

Whether or not they decide to stick with Howard, will tell you a lot about the blocking scheme they want to run with. If they trade him, they will go back to power blocking.wab wrote:I'm ok with it I suppose. I just wish they'd find a blocking scheme and stick with it.

I wouldn't count the Bears out for signing an OT in one of their first couple of picks.sturf wrote:My only question with resigning Massie was that I wasn't sure what Harry thought of them. I stand corrected. Initially I had posted that Massie's previous deal was all salary with only 1 year/$6mil guaranteed because somewhere along the line it had been reported that way. Where I don't recall but I thought it was Spotrac.
Here's the correct contract structure as now reported by Spotrac. His cap hit and his cash (salary/roster bonus) have actually declined. Details on his new deal have still not been published by Spotrac.

Check out the details...I feel a lot better. Basically a 2 year deal worth 16 million..with club options after that. I have to think that he would have gotten a much better deal if he tested the open market.
