I'm sure the change in offensive strategy had nothing to do with acquiring a different style of running back.

But I guess maybe Jordan Howard isn't "all that".

Hunt is suspended 8 games so I doubt they move him.

Howard has production on his side, Johnson hasn't accomplished much.
Johnson 3456 total yards and 13 TD's over 4 years = 864 average total yards / 3.25 average td's
Howard 3938 total yards and 25 TD's over 3 years = 1312 average total yards / 8.3 average td's

While Chubb does fit your premise of needing a different style RB for a different system, Hunt and Johnson are similar backs. So why acquire Hunt when you just signed Johnson to an extension if Johnson's worth anything?

Mountain Mist to Mt Dew? WEll I guess you have to drink those to catch the comparison

One is the off brand generic lol
And a ton more carbonation lol... One gives me the shits other gives me gas. You don't mix Mnt Dew with a Velveeta cheese based queso dip I cleared out a room of 50 people. Noone would come within 20 yards from me.

Eagles Reportedly Interested In Browns RB Duke Johnson
April 1, 2019 at 9:00 pm

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Even after acquiring running back Jordan Howard from the Bears last week, the Eagles may not be finished retooling the position just yet. According to Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot, the Eagles have shown interest in Browns RB Duke Johnson.

Cabot reports Johnson’s camp has requested a trade after an offseason full or rumors. The 25-year-old was a no-show at the Browns’ voluntary off season program Monday.

Johnson is a dynamic pass-catcher and a dual-threat in the mold of Darren Sproles. With Sproles contemplating retirement, the Eagles appear to be in need of a passing-down back.

Right now, the Eagles backfield consists of Howard, Josh Adams, Corey Clement and Wendell Smallwood. Johnson is a bit on the small side at 5-foot-9 and 210 pounds, but his numbers speak for itself.

Eagles Acquire RB Jordan Howard In Trade With Bears

In his four NFL seasons, Johnson averages 4.3 yards per carry and has scored five total rushing touchdowns. In the passing game, Johnson has averaged 9.2 yards per catch and eight total receiving touchdowns.
Johnson put up his best numbers in 2017 with seven combined touchdowns and 1,041 total yards. The Browns then rewarded him with a three-year, $15 million deal.

With second-year running back Nick Chubb coming on strong at the end of last season and now the addition of Kareem Hunt, the Browns could be looking to move Johnson’s contract.

Cabot also mentions the Jets and Texans as interested teams.

I'd love for him to be a part of the Bears. But with Cohen and Davis on board, I think the Bears turn to the draft. Now...if they can get him for the pick that they got for Howard, I'd be all for it.

Agreed, this dude would be good in this offense. If I were Pace, I would see what it would take and if it’s anything reasonable 5/6th rounder, I would pull the trigger. This kid can simply create yards and runs to green.

Mike Davis cap hit is only 2M this season and the bears have an out next season and would only have a 1 million dead cap charge. Johnson cap hits are 1.8M, $3.6M, $4.65M. I’m not sure the bears are sold on any back in this draft. I would feel much more confident going into this season with Johnson/Cohen/Davis instead of Davis/Cohen/rookie.

I think the only thing standing in the way of Johnson is Davis. I was dead wrong when I assumed he was a replacement for Cunningham/Mizzell. I think they want to feature the guy. Having said that, I like Johnson a whole hell of a lot better in this offense than almost any RB in the NFL right now (as I've been saying for months).

Also agree on Davis is probably standing in the way. Pace has been known for his patience maybe he jumped the gun on this one? Or possibly I’m wrong and the bears have a back they’re dead set on in the draft and willing to move up to get him and Davis is just insurance? I know I’ve said it before but I’m not sold with Davis as RB1. Johnson seems to be the more prototypical Nagy back. I watched a little film on Johnson, from what I’m seeing he looks like he can create yards after contact, can make people miss, is a very good receiving back, is very good at creating yards after the catch(something I feel is lacking in this offense). However, I can’t find anything with him blocking, this is one aspect I feel was under appreciated in Howard. IMO, a dynamic all purpose back would make all the difference in the world in a Nagy offense.

Howard is an elite pass blocking RB. That will be hard to replace.

If Jordan Howard was worth a R5 or R6 pick in 2020, what's Duke Johnson worth?

I’d say less. He makes more and I wouldn’t argue he’s been more productive. Just different.

I like the idea of Duke but he's getting more $$$ than I think we want to commit to the position right meow.
