I do too but I want him to learn how to kick accurately with that power. Not every kick needs to be 110%.AZ_Bearfan wrote:I want the kid with the cannon for a leg.

He wasn't inaccurate in college: 38/43 = 88.4%
If he's fully recovered, it seems obvious to me.

I'm calling it right now. Pineiro is the opening day starting kicker.

At least after 2 days looks like there's some promise.

Sounds like Piniero mis-hit his 55 yarder but then made his 60 yarder with a couple feet to spare.
I think he's learning how to find that happy medium of leg strength and accurate delivery.
Remember, we want someone who is going to be fucking consistent and reliable up to 40, 45 yards. Anything after that, if you can get it consistently, is gravy IMO.

Aside from 7th receiver and maybe 4th tight end, this is probably our biggest camp battle.

I'm waiting to see if Vedvik ends up on the trade block. I think he's going to be a solid NFL kicker for some team.

that could be a very real possibilityAZ_Bearfan wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2019 2:40 pm I'm waiting to see if Vedvik ends up on the trade block. I think he's going to be a solid NFL kicker for some team.
Kaare Vedvik is the stud Norwegian kicker the Ravens are looking to trade
https://nypost.com/2019/08/09/kaare-ved ... -to-trade/
Ravens backup kicker Kaare Vedvik is familiar with using preseason games as an opportunity to showcase what he’s worth.
The undrafted 25-year-old went 4 for 4 on field goals in Thursday night’s preseason opener against the Jaguars, with a long of 55 yards. He added two punts, one of which went 58 yards and the other 53 yards, in the 29-0 win.
The Ravens are in a familiar spot. They were plotting to trade or release the Norwegian after last preseason when he sustained a head injury while getting assaulted in Baltimore.
The Ravens already have special-teams aces in star kicker Justin Tucker and punter Sam Koch. However, if Vedvik continues his strong play, the Ravens could snag a higher draft pick.
“I don’t really ever think about that,” Vedvik said when asked about the possibility of another team acquiring him. “I’m focused on playing the game. That’s it. Teams that are interested, they talk to coach, the head honcho. I’m just going to play the game.”
The Jets could inquire about Vedvik after Chandler Catanzaro missed two extra points in their first preseason game on Thursday, but no one needs Vedvik’s services more than the Bears.
looks like he can kick and punt ... plus he is Norwegian, so I doubt Chicago winters will affect him
so if the Bears did get him, perhaps they could get a trade pick back by trading O'Donnell, though not sure what kind of market there is for punters ... they seem relatively disposable for the most part

Because Chris Tabor might be an idiot.
I love how he gets zero shit from the media for playing a huge role in us signing Parkey last year.

IF the Bears are going to trade for a kicker, whether that is Vedvik or someone else who is standing out at another training camp/pre-season, they better do it in the next week to ten days. Why keep plodding along with Fry and Pineiro if we aren’t 100% sold on them. Get someone we like in and give them a week or two to get comfortable on the team.

He's been pretty erratic in camp I've heard. Like today he missed the in a row in the 40 to 49 yard range IIRC.beardownbilly wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2019 3:15 pm IF the Bears are going to trade for a kicker, whether that is Vedvik or someone else who is standing out at another training camp/pre-season, they better do it in the next week to ten days. We're already short on picks, I don't want to burn anything other than a 7th on a fucking kicker... Maybe a 6th... Maybe

To be honest I haven’t been following any other kickers closely, just been hearing all the rumours, but I agree with you. I don’t want them to give up anything of value, I just want them to evaluate them and make their decision, sooner rather than later.

First - Hey guys. Long time.
Second - I liked Piniero until that miss Thurs. Not sure why I like him vs Fry. It's pretty close. Both guys will probably be kicking for someone at some point this year regardless. That said, I watched Vedvik this AM and think I'd prefer they try hard to pick him up. See how the Ravens love the dude? I like that.

Too late...
From the Sun Times:
From the Sun Times:
On Sunday afternoon, the Vikings traded a reported fifth-round pick for the Ravens’ Kaare Vedvik. Stuck behind the great Justin Tucker, Vedvik made all four field goals he tried Thursday, with the longest coming from 55 yards out. Tack on two extra points, and his 14 points were the most among any NFL kicker.
While the Bears are working the margins looking for a kicker, credit the Vikings for making a bold trade. He figures to replace veteran Dan Bailey, who made 21-of-28 attempts last season. Cody Parkey’s 76.7 field goal percentage was only slightly better than Bailey — though his last miss was a catastrophic one.

I don't know if the interest in the Ravens guy was legit or a subtle push to Fry/Pinero to get better quickly.

They said on AM670 this morning that the Bears made the Ravens an offer for Vedvik, but the Vikings outbid them. That tells you something about their satisfaction level with Fry and Piniero.
Mikefive's theory: The only time you KNOW that a sports team player, coach or management member is being 100% honest is when they're NOT reciting "the company line".
