i guess now is when we really see how adept our coaching staff are. If the next man up mentality is really a thing, players like Coward have to show they are ready to go.
These younger players have to be thrown into the fire at some point, we may be surprised - Pace tends to either hit it out of the park or completely whiff, so im expecting we'll have answers on Coward and Bars sooner rather than later.
Whatever happens, it wont have been an easy decision for the bears to make this move on kyle long and I like the fact they made it when they did rather than dragging it out till the offseason.
Update: Kyle Long to IR for 4th straight season

I don't know what he expects... he's been hurt for 3 years. Playing bad because you are hurt is still playing bad, even if you played bad a full game before being put on IR because you are, you know, hurt.

He knows he's done as a Chicago Bear. As he should be... loved him during his time here.

I did note that they called Long's next year a contract "option"
If they are using that as a term of art - which hopefully they are - it means that once they decline the option (Rather than cutting him) he will count for purposes of Compensatory Picks the next year.
Sportrac seems to agree: "2020 is a club option to be exercised by 3/18/2020"

To get the comp pick, another team would have to sign him and keep him on their roster through Week 10, right? If we decline and he retires, we get squat?

If they cut him or decline the option would he even count?

Yes please Kyle, sign with Green Bay. I hope you start. Just as long as one of the games you’re healthy for is against us.

They are technically two different things - and the difference matters to the Compensatory Pick calculus.
Cut = Does NOT count either way
Declined Option - DOES Count for and against
*He would need to sign elsewhere and be on the Roster past a certain week

Kyle Long is the only Bear I've ever had interaction with (well I guess Robbie Gould replied to a tweet of mine once) and on both Twitter and Twitch he's hated anything I've had to say, and it never had to do with football
