Explain to me why this is true. Seriously.
Tell me why you'd want him to have another crack at it after trading up for a guy who ultimately turned out to be a failure when he could have stayed at 3 and taken one of the two other successful QB's picked shortly after?

Or the guy that gave a ton of money to Glennon.

He will have already had two strikes at QB swings.

I mean if everyone is already talking about Mitch being a bust after 4 quarters of football played badly by both teams, if he's regressed THAT much THAT quickly, then everyone has failed. Right?
Pretty much.

Pace has hitched his wagon to Trubisky (and, to a lesser extent, Nagy). He's built a fine team around that player, but Tru is his legacy pick.

So a GM's job is to draft a top QB and that's it? I know Pace isn't perfect, I've been more critical than most here I think, but we've got the best defence in football, weapons on offence, a stack of good draft picks... The Bears would be insane to get rid of Pace if Trubisky shits the bed. Hell, if Trubisky is shit this year then I'd be tempted to give Nagy a mulligan.

Now I don't think any of this will be necessary, until Pace drops $30m a year on Trubisky, then he can get in the bin.

These are the first round picks under Ryan Pace:

1) Kevin White - Bust
2) Leonard Floyd - I would argue that this is a bust although I would never actively root for a Bear to fail. I hope to be 100% wrong.
3) Biscuit - I love him.
4) Roquan - Home run.

I have said repeatedly that I think Biscuit, Pace, Nagy etc. are awesome and blah blah blah and obviously my mind hasn't changed since yesterday. That being said....

If Biscuit winds up being a double doink Pace can't stick around with a first round draft record like that. Sorry but its too high profile of a fuck up and then also a pattern emerges. In my opinion that would be 3 busts out of 4 tries and all of those were high draft picks including two trade ups.

There is no arguing that Pace really excels in the later rounds. That's his strength. But IDK if that's enough for him to hang around. Honestly the very fact that he's assembled a team this great in the draft while at the same time effectively conceding the first round to other teams speaks to just how great he is at drafting in the later rounds. Imagine where we'd be if White and Floyd were worth their draft position? It would be unreal.

I respect this logic, but disagree vehemently.

There's no way that the organization tears EVERYTHING down that we've done over the past four years and rebuilds after this season if Mitch bombs. Not when we have a defense like this and an offensive line/weapons locked in like we do.

If Mitch tanks and fizzles out. They will try to find a QB capable of getting us a ring within this team's window. They will not blow it up. No matter WHAT...
I totally agree Richie. I don't see the McCaskey's firing Pace if Trubisky doesn't work out. They spent a lot of money looking for Pace. He is the young GM that the organization has been looking for. He has put together a really solid team. He has made some good trades and FA signings. He has extended the right players. I don't see him being fired if Mitch doesn't work out. At least I hope the Bears don't.

oh god yeah, pace has done way too much good for his job to be in jeopardy simply because mitch sucks. i guess i could see nagy maybe getting the axe if he turns out to be trestman redux but i think he's pretty safe too. for some reason so many fans cant get over their angry hard on for the glennon signing and i feel pretty confident that no one at halas hall gives a fuck about that. mitch needed time to groom, they took a shot on a mid-priced veteran.

No one hated the Glennon signing more than I did (well, on this board, I'm not including radio sports show callers!) but it doesn't want me to jettison Pace even if Trubisky washes out.

I think Pace has some improvements to make, particularly around calculated risks in free agency (more McPhee, Gabriel type signings) but he shows so many good traits I want him to learn from them with us and get better. The other option is continually trying to find a mythical prodigy and never letting them learn on the job.

Its similar for Navy though he obviously doesn't have Pace's body of work. He needs to show enough in his initial contract to deserve a second, not win a ring or get in the bin.

I voted ownership which I define as the McCaskey's, Phillips, Pace and Nagy.

All of them can go as far as I'm concerned. Of the lot of them the only one I can defend is Pace and that's getting weaker by the day.

The McCaskey's have no business owning a football team. Living off the legacy of Papa Bear has gotten old. Its been over 30 years since the last Super Bowl win. They have no clue about football and how to win. This is really just a money machine for them and nothing more. They don't give a fuck about the fans.

Since the Bears last Super Bowl the fucking pathetic piece of shit trendy ZOMG CHICAGO CUBS and their dumbass "fans" got a World Series. The Bulls won 6 titles. The GD White Sox won a World Series with Mr. Second Place Reinsdorf as the owner. The Blackhawks won 3 titles and every suburban asshole tripped over themselves to get a custom license plate so they too can be trendy.

The fucking Bears haven't done shit.

In my mind the McCaskey's have lost the privilege of owning a football team let alone an original former flagship franchise. If the Bears are still a flagship franchise it is only under the upside down flag of surrender.

I just think Phillips is an asshole so I want him gone too.

Matt Nagy is the one that hurts. Too proud, too arrogant, and too self confident to adapt in order to survive. I love him so much as a motivational figure and a positive role model. In the same way that the game passed Fox by I think the pendulum swung too far when they got Nagy and I jumped for joy when they hired him.

Doesn't play the QB, with 13 college starts, in the preseason for 2 years.
Doesn't adapt the offense to the abilities of the team. With this defense, and Biscuit's struggles, we should be running the ball 20 times or so per game.
Waiting too long on Kyle Long.
Keeps Leonard Floyd on the field for some reason.
The team, through sloppy penalties, shows poor discipline.

This team also cannot win in the big moment. The playoff game against the Eagles. OK fine blame Parkey but the problem is deeper than that. The opening game this year against the Packers when all the fans demanded blood for the way the previous season ended and starting at home against the Packers. Then the shitshow we saw yesterday. After getting embarrassed by the Raiders (FFS), at home against a Saints team with a backup QB and without the star RB if there was ever a time for a team to show that it gave a damn it was yesterday. They failed. Again.

That's on Nagy and it can't stand. I love him, but the blinders need to come off for me sooner or later.

Pace needs to go. I need to think about that one more.

Ryan Pace's First Round Draft Record:

Kevin White
Leonard Floyd
Trubisky
Smith

Floyd and Biscuit both involved trade ups. Biscuit's was substantial and for one draft spot.

White, Floyd and Biscuit (the argument is made easier every day to support this and it breaks my heart to think it) are busts.

He then traded two first rounders for Khalil Mack. That trade has been great so far. Let's see what the final value of next year's first rounder is. Knowing what we know about Biscuit now, would you trade a top 10 overall pick, amongst other things for Mack even though we could use that to draft a QB. I'd rather have a QB than the luxury of Mack.

That first round draft record is disgraceful and indefensible. His saving grace is that after the first round he hits home run after home run.

I voted Nagy. He is the one that is putting the inadequate QB in the positions he is. At the same time the QB cannot handle any situation it seems. That seems like a bad marriage.

Nagy's play calling is suspect. 5 rushes in the first half, 3 by the midget, 1 by a WR and 1 by the back that is praised to high heaven. Doesn't make sense. 2 of the midget's carries were up the middle. That play has gotten so old.

The fact Nagy can't really explain why he doesn't run the ball is a joke. I get the OL has not played well, 5 rushes and 21 passes in the first half, no damn way in that close of a game.

On sports teams. It always starts at the top. Nagy has completely derailed when it comes to play calling, or setting his key players up for success. He's still trying to be too creative, instead of trying to play complimentary football. He is starting to lose the team. You can see it in the eyes of the players. The defense had enough last night as well. It didn't even look like they were trying to rush the QB on some of the plays. They were TIRED of being on the field, and watching the offense struggle, series after series.

Time to take the play calling duties out of Nagy's hands, and give them to Helfrich. Has to happen sooner than later.

I couldn't bring myself to vote, as I don't have a singular thing that's stressing me out. It's not entirely Pace's draft picks petering out or falling from grace. It's not entirely Nagy's offense being exposed and/or undercooked. It's not entirely the defense getting overhyped. It's not entirely injuries to key players.

I don't give a damn about the McCaskeys or Phillips at this point. I think Pace is a solid GM and deserves as much credit as criticism, so the buck, IMHO, stops there.

My concern is that this team has zero confidence and no leadership to save them from it. Trubisky's lost his sheen as a top pick destined to become great, because anyone with two eyes can see he's a fraud, no matter how hard he tries or his best intentions. The defense is suffering without Hicks, sure, but why they should give a shit when the game's entire outcome rests on them giving up 0? Their lousy play is a passive vote of no confidence in the offense, and I don't blame them a bit.

Nagy's not a moron. He's just as frustrated and flummoxed as anyone, but he's got to be very careful not to lose the locker room. He's no Trestman - a spineless jellyfish who would always rather crawl back under the rock they emerged from. But this is the most telling adversity he's ever faced, and I'm interested to see how he grows from it.

I voted Nagy. It is completely bewildering to only run the ball 7 times. SEVEN TIMES!! wtf how are we supposed to get a run game if we dont even pretend to try. I mean its not like we have Peyton Manning behind center to throw the ball 50 times! ugh!!

I am not ready to bash Pace because yes his first round picks have been suspect but he has made some great value picks in other rounds. I am not wanting Nagy gone, I just want him to adapt.

The defense will work itself out, they probably get tired lol.

No running game, which is a result of several other factors. If the Bears even had the threat of one, I think some of these overall problems would be minimized.

Teams know the Bears can't run. The goddamn head coach knows the Bears can't run, he said it. This puts a lot of pressure on a QB who is struggling and on a playcaller who's offense is built around the threat of a running game.

It's a mess. But it's a mess that starts with Nagy.

This bit from Jason La Canfora on Nagy's 2018 KC playoff loss included a warning: "The young play caller was part of blowing an 18-point lead at home to a middling opponent with no passing game of its own, and systematically ignoring the league’s leading rusher in the process (Sound familiar?). “You can’t hire him now,” one grizzled front office exec said. “No way.”

I voted Nagy. Mitch has talent but is regressing at an alarming rate, and Nagy has been horrible as a playcaller IMO. To be hired he was likely put in charge of developing Tru and installing an offense that he can be groomed in, and has been a colossal failure at both. Tru might have been ruined like Cutler was here.

He does not adjust to the game well, last year he had an over-reliance on drags, screens, and outs. Two of those are fine if you can make people miss, but outside of Cohen no one could. He allowed HH to switch to a power run scheme when they OL is not powerful, they are athletic AF. That was why Howard did so well on the stretch plays, they could move and create a crease, but they can't dig anyone out. Now they are trying to add more zone concepts but run so sparingly the OL and RBs can't get in a rhythm. Now they are having issues with simple twists and assignments. The whole OL is unprepared and looks terrible.

Nagy is seemingly trying to make Tru a pocket passer in the likes of Peyton and Brady... but he isn't. He is a plus athlete that is comfortable in space and when he reacts he does better than when he has to think too much. But he isn't getting to do rollouts or anything with regularity. Coincidentally the one game he did was vs WAS. He can scramble and pick up first downs, don't take his legs away from him. Don't make him Lt. Dan!!!

Last year Howard was the problem, supposedly. Now they have 3 multidimensional backs (4 counting Patterson) and now.... no one runs. We are 28th in attempts per game and yards per carry. Who is Nagy going to scapegoat now?

Nagy never deserved the COY award, the defense is why his win/loss looks so much better than it should. His offense beat up on some poor defenses but has been laughably bad otherwise. I say let him pick his guy in the draft or go after Foles if that is who he wants, and then tie his job to that offense's performance. If the results are even close to this then he has no value here, and shouldn't be a liability any longer.

I'm 100% a supporter of Nagy. I love the dude, but...

Sometimes I feel like Nagy is calling plays in a way that is almost trying to force the acceleration of Mitch's development. Instead he's kind of breaking him.

My worry when we hired him was his propensity to go "pass crazy' and abandon the run. It's rearing its ugly head right now. To me, it seems like he doesn't like to run and the FIRST GLIMPSE of trouble he abandons it (save for the Redskins game).

Newsflash for Mr. Nagy: look at how the Minnesota Vikings have salvaged Kirk Cousins' season (career?) this year and look at what Carolina is doing with Kyle Allen.

Even if you aren't finding success in the run game, you need to commit to running the ball to force linebackers and safeties to respect it. Do that enough, go play action and look at the wonderful windows that will open up in the passing game. Digs and deep shots for days.

As of this moment, 24% of replies are most worried about Mitch. Trust me, there is a lot more broken in this offense than #10.

What has me most worried isn’t the Defense, the run game or even Mitch, it’s Nagy’s inability to adjust.
We have seen multiple starting QB’s go down injured this season and other teams continually win games as their coaches adjusted to the strengths of the backups/rookies but we seem to just keep doing the same stuff that hasn’t worked all season and Nagy seemed to double down on this at yesterday’s press conference when he said something along the lines of ‘we won’t change otherwise before you know it you are running a totally different offensive scheme’!
As of right now would running a different offensive scheme be so bad?
Mitch was not this poor last season, he looks overwhelmed by the amount of information he trying to process every play, why can’t we simplify the offense, find Mitch’s strengths and play to them?
We see Buffalo, Jacksonville, New Orleans, Arizona all play to their QB’s strengths and I believe Mitch should be at least as good as any of their current starters.

THAYER: Trubisky stayed with his first read, and credit to Allen Robinson for making that adjustment on a poorly thrown ball, but look over on the far side: Taylor Gabriel was uncovered in the end zone, but hey - score's a score either way you look at it!

First I want to apologize for the last 3 posts I saw up there from me. Honestly, I don't remember even posting them I was so trashed that night and with the meds I'm on since surgery it adds to it. I don't drink much but was having a really bad go at it for a few days healthwise and bought a bottle of vodka and drank 1/2 the bottle. Anyhow, I'm embarrassed by those posts...

What I'm even more embarrassed with is this team. Going on 50 years of being a Bear and I've never been so frustrated with a team as this years. I give up defending Mitch today... Although I know he's not the only problem he is not who I thought he could be. I watched every college game and some high school ones I could find on him before they drafted him and thought he would be a great QB. Anyhow, he looked like a deer in the headlights today... Defeated is an understatement.

There are only two players on our offense that are good being Robinson and Monty the rest are total garbage! Not one lineman or TE should be starting. Miller might be something we could build on in the future but he's hit or miss every week.

Our D can't play for 50 mins a game so I really can't blame them too much but you can see some of them gave up today. From just putting your hand on Howard's shoulder as he runs right by you for a TD instead of trying to players just jogging after a player.

Nagy had another shit show of a game I just can't stand him either... Like him as a person and HC but as a play-caller he's terrible. I have absolutely no faith in him anymore. I feel bad listening to his pressers because I don't want to hate on the guy because he has the heart and you can tell is a great guy but man it's getting old listening to him say the right things but then do the total opposite on Sundays.

The owners we have are the worse in all sports. Hear me out on this... They have 100 years of doing one thing and that's owning a football team. George founded the league and his family needs to hire outside consultants to come up with this shit? Seriously, if you had an entire lifetime at a job and had no FN clue what you're doing how long would you keep that job LOL. They're a joke... All of them. I'm sure it's fun listening to Virginia talk about how great it was to see players in the 40s and hang around the sidelines but what input has she had other than getting rid of the Honey Bears? Her two sons are incompetent buffoons and the family as a whole are nothing more than greedy POS. They once said we as fans had our time now it's theirs... that was around 30 years ago before they broke up arguably the best team in the history of the NFL because they wanted to make a buck. Well, how long before it's out time again? I'm starting to think never...

It's getting really hard to stay a fan of this team and I'm starting to realize I'm not going to see another Super Bowl in my lifetime. I don't have that many years left having a heart condition and the best thing this team has going for it is their offseason PR department. Those guys deserver a raise!
