Brad Briggs has speculated that sack levels may fall this year league-wide due to the absence of crowd noise to make it difficult for offenses to communicate and fire up the defense, but that benefit only normally exists for the home team.
Let's hope the Mighty Quinn gets himself healthy and out there soon.

This kid looks like the real deal. He is definitely the one that tipped the Fuller INT. And that slap down defended pass at the end was an exclamation point ... "not in MY endzone". I think Fuller and Eddie are going to feast again with him back there.HisRoyalSweetness wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2020 7:39 pm Jaylon Johnson in his first NFL start

He looked up to the task. I was a bit worried given his lack of practice/shoulder recovery. The only bad play he had was when Marvin Jones punked him on the one reception.IE wrote: ↑Tue Sep 15, 2020 8:00 amThis kid looks like the real deal. I can understand the lack of elation and some disappointment in spite of the W. How would we feel if Prater had not doinked the FG attempt in the 4th qtr, or if the Lions rookie caught the ball at the end of the game? I don't think we can attribute it to St. Halas waiving a hand from heaven, just more bad Lions luck,UOK wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2020 1:03 pmEh, I get where he's coming from. My wife asks me this question every week during Bears season. I'm basically miserable the entire time because this team has conditioned me to set the standard at "resolute disappointment."
Some people have a pile of food and beer and make the day a tailgaiting celebration of football. Others glumly watch waiting for the worst to happen because that's what has virtually always happened every season. Doesn't make those who lean more toward column B worse fans than those in column A. Just how it works out.
Three other factors for the down feeling:
1. The covid-crap empty stands made it feel like a glorified scrimmage than a real NFL game. The BLM/unity junk should not be part of the game.
2. Many of us watched the Thursday night game with the two "coulda-been" QB's. An actual playmaker under center? Ryan Pace's legacy, and he can only hope for a Mitchy miracle.
3. All preseason was focused on the QB battle, where both Mitch and Nick fought evenly. We all saw the highlight reels from Foles and how he has a championship ring and MVP. That he couldn't beat out Mitch AND Mitch came out struggling was frustrating to watch.
Again, maybe it's just first game struggles without preseason games to get warmed up, and Mitch will continue to improve and show more consistency all four quarters. Jints D did OK against the Steelers but they are probably close to Detroit talent-wise. Worried about Saquan lighting up the Bears like he did last time.
San Francisco has always been my favorite booing city. I don't mean the people boo louder or longer, but there is a very special intimacy. Music, that's what it is to me. One time in Kezar Stadium they gave me a standing boo.

I then told my wife how up and down a rookies day could be. Good play then shitty play then great play. Like a roller coaster

I am most worried about D. Trevathon. I think they kept the wrong linebacker, dude looks like injuries have piled up and he can't do it anymore.

His contract structure also makes him exceedingly hard to cut.southdakbearfan wrote: ↑Tue Sep 15, 2020 9:15 pm I am most worried about D. Trevathon. I think they kept the wrong linebacker, dude looks like injuries have piled up and he can't do it anymore.
It doesn't seem right that an arm injury would totally deplete his speed, though.

I am hoping that the defense just doesn't have the reps they usually get in pre-season games with hitting people.
Adrian Peterson runs like a fucking freight train, so starting off with him likely opened some eyes. Saquan runs hard as well so they'll have to make sure they are creating a wall with the front 7 when he gets the rock.

I think a handful of the front 7 looked sluggish. Hicks, Trevathan, and RRH for sure. Roquan looked fast, and Nichols looked pretty explosive. There was an awful lot of huffing and puffing and hands on hips.G08 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 9:57 am I am hoping that the defense just doesn't have the reps they usually get in pre-season games with hitting people.

I'm going to attribute that to not being in playing shape due to the wonky offseason.

I don't think its the arm. I think its hitting 30. Even last year, I recall he was slowing down a touch. Guys obviously age at different speeds, but it would hardly be the first time an 8 year vet suddenly and quickly just fell off the edge.Moriarty wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 9:51 amHis contract structure also makes him exceedingly hard to cut.southdakbearfan wrote: ↑Tue Sep 15, 2020 9:15 pm I am most worried about D. But yea, it is a really weird contract structure. Its a similar technique that's been used recently with Bridgewater and Tannehill to add some dummy option years, but Pace really ramped up the technique (also did it with Fuller), and I think there is a lot more inherit risk doing this with a 30 year old LB than a late 20's-early 30's QB. Not sure how common its been by other teams outside of those 2 examples.
The best hope may be a mercy-retirement if his decline is permanent and real.

Does this mean I'm in first place or dead last by a country mile?
I assume I'm last
How does this scoring system work?
I guess my smarta$$ call to have 2 TEs break 100 yards and each score twice hurt me when it didn't happen. Otherwise I don't see how I can be behind Jax, Hurricane and Richie who picked THE LIONS TO WIN!!!! Heck, Richie went 21-20 LIONS and he's top 10!!!!!! What the hell is going on out here as Lombardi would say.
WE GOT AWARDS!?!??!
So your telling me I need to be somewhat serious in what I predict???? Good think we don't have Hester anymore, i predicted him to a couple of TDs every game (after all a broke clock is right twice a day).

Has some great video of the final play. Didn't realize how great a play he made, especially for it being his fist game.

I’ve already won one year so im not complaining, but what’s the “duplicate” rule? We’re supposed to have unique score or something?

There are some exponential multipliers that explode the scoring out the further you get away from the actual score. So UOK nailed it.Arkansasbear wrote: ↑Thu Sep 17, 2020 11:05 am

Don't predict a blowout unless you're 100% convinced it will happen. And then you'll still probably be sorry. lol
