Robinson is a top tier WR talent in the NFL. If he had a top 10 QB under center, he would be a perennial 1500 yard receiver. You have to pay to keep him.

No question he is a #1 Receiver. Where he ranks in that catagory I don't know, but Not in the top 10.
Mitch has had a tendency to lock in on only him. A better QB will find the others more often.
That being said, a perennial 1500 guy is not unrealistic.

La Canfora on the pre-games show:
"I can tell you the sides are still not close on a long term deal. If they can't get one done by next week talks will be tabled until 2021, when a franchise tag looms for Robinson."

In order to get this done they would need several players to re-work their contracts to move some of the deferred money into cash bonuses while also extending other players to move some of the back-end contracts.

There was 1 player in the NFL who had 1500 or more Yards last year.
1.
And then you added "Perennial"
This is bad homerism

Allen Robinson has had 1000 yards or more ... twice. In his career. I want the Bears to bring him back but I don’t understand why people are overvaluing him to this extent?

I'm hearing in the media that ARob wants in the vicinity of $17M/year, when the F-tag is about to be $15M and change. Seems like a financial no brainer to use the tag on him next year.
Mikefive's theory: The only time you KNOW that a sports team player, coach or management member is being 100% honest is when they're NOT reciting "the company line".

I think he's overvalued here in part because we don't appear to have anything else, if we lose him we are screwed. Mooney looks nice early but we don't have a WR1 on this roster other than ARob. He's also an A+ person and teammate. I think you mentioned this before and it's spot on...Miller doesn't appear to have the body type to be a WR1 in this league.

I don't want to go too over the moon on Mooney (lol) but man, if he could be the Bears version of Tyreek Hill...that would do a ton for this offense. He's already edged Miller out of the #2 spot (at least in terms of snaps). Miller has been almost exclusively playing in the slot though.
I wonder why Ridley has fallen so far down the depth chart. He's one of the better route runners on the team even though he's severely lacking in speed.

I would love this, and the fact that Trubisky basically threw it to him blind on that TD spoke volumes on their trust/chemistry.

If you can't beat out Javon Wims and his 18/186/1 going into the following year, you might just be headed toward oblivion.wab wrote: ↑Mon Sep 21, 2020 11:08 am I don't want to go too over the moon on Mooney (lol) but man, if he could be the Bears version of Tyreek Hill...that would do a ton for this offense. Between only paying with young erratic QB's so far in his career, and suffering a pretty bad injury that took awhile to fully recover from, Allen has shown that he can put up top tier numbers. Except for this last game where he looked lethargic, Allen tends to play with intensity and fights for every ball. Because of his talent, those same young erratic QB's have always trusted him.
I will kill you if you cut me at the knees. You will drink with me when invited and stay til I say so. We only listen to American Music. I make men nervous with just my presence. I expect an apology if you hold. I throw linemen at QB's. Believe the Lore!

If he doesn't catch it he sure as hell doesn't let the corner rip it out of his hands. That's a bitch play.

Looking at the cap, I think they will let him walk and hope for a compensatory pick.

I should point out that ARob is probably just an average WR that has a good body & hands, and gets a lot of looks. Again I'm wondering if his replacement value isn't much more than Javon Wims.
I should also point out that bad throws or decisions are what they are. I don't care about ARob being out-wrestled for that ball while falling backwards. He's saved 10's ass so many times he's owed a lot more consideration than being called a bitch. I think.

Ridley got doghoused last year, the same way Miller did, early on (questioning Nagy's playcalling and/or route concepts, I forget which).
And there's something of a logjam - the Bears have 2 fast WRs and 4 possession receivers, with Wims being a bit bigger and more experienced.
If he goes the whole season without getting opportunities, I'll be definitely be concerned for his trajectory by then.
If Mooney keeps on playing well, Ginn may eventually start getting the gameday inactive, paving the way for Ridley to play. If not, I guess he'll have to wait until they get more underwhelmed by Wims...
It would certainly be preferable to know what Miller and Ridley are before making any big decisions about Robinson.

This is where I'm at. Miller and Ridley are young and inconsistent, so it would be nice to know what the Bears have in them before just arbitrarily letting Robinson walk.
I think Allen Robinson is a good WR. I think Bears fans (and the sports world) are incredibly over valuing him right now because he's the "best" WR the Bears have right now.
Based on what we've all seen from Mooney...he could be a star in the making.

"That's a bitch play" is considerably different than calling Allen Robinson a bitch lol.
It was a bitch play. A true #1 WR makes that catch. Hell, a true #2 WR makes sure that ball isn't intercepted. It was a 50-50 ball where the defender, literally, could not see the football. And he picks it off? Garbage.
Michael Thomas, Julio Jones, DeAndre Hopkins... those dudes make those plays.

So does Allen Robinson, we've seen him make that play literally dozens of times since he's been here. This is patently unfair criticism IMO, no one makes that play every time - no one. ARob is extremely good in those situations normally, so when he flubs one he deserves a little space. Try giving him the same leash you give Mitch!G08 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 11:15 am "That's a bitch play" is considerably different than calling Allen Robinson a bitch lol.

I get the frustration though. Robinson is in the midst of a contract dispute where he's reportedly been saying that the Bears offers to this point are disrespectful and that he deserves to be paid like the top WR he considers himself to be. Then he comes out and lays kind of an egg. Bitch play is a bit harsh... Robinson has bailed Mitch out on plenty of occasions, but when the team needed him to make a play, he didn't. And not only did he not make the plays, they both resulted in turnovers. So the whole thing is compounded, and to the fans, that's bad optics.dplank wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 11:41 amSo does Allen Robinson, we've seen him make that play literally dozens of times since he's been here.
