Not a coincidence that "healthy" is the first descriptor. I think this might be the wrong year for a player with a history of injury concerns to be hoping for a big contract.
I will kill you if you cut me at the knees. You will drink with me when invited and stay til I say so. We only listen to American Music. I make men nervous with just my presence. I expect an apology if you hold. I throw linemen at QB's. Believe the Lore!

I think he could be fine in a rotation where he sits if he tweaks anything. He should go to a team like the Jets or the Bengals that will value his presence in the oline room with their talented rookies.
There's alot of water under the bridge between Long and the Bears so I'm sure he's not coming back. I wish him well.

I don't remember for sure, but I think he may have been out of contract. I recall he reworked his deal in the final year which I think was the final of his deal at the time.

When you retire, does that work like sitting out - your contract advances, and you can eventually wait it out?
Spotrac says he signed for 2 yrs (19 & 20) in March 2019.
Which would mean he just now is free to leave Chicago and play anywhere - an amazing coincidence in timing for his choice to return...

He was released with an injury designation, as I recall. He's a street free agent.

Nope if you have a contract and the team doesn't release your rights they control you.Moriarty wrote: ↑Tue Mar 09, 2021 2:19 pm When you retire, does that work like sitting out - your contract advances, and you can eventually wait it out?

See: Gronk last year. He wanted to come back and NE worked out a deal to trade his rights to TB. But if they didn't want to, he was SOL.

The Bears renounced his rights. He can sign with any team. Despite at one time saying he couldn't see wearing any other jersey, he's bitter about the way he feels the team treated him and won't be returning.

Hopefully he signs with the Packers and they make him a starter.
It would be great if he gave up the sack that shatters one of Rodgers' femurs.

alexwilkins I'm loving your hot take there! Anything which gives me some Bears hope! (Even borderline conspiracy theories .. lol)
On a more serious note, I read a longform article about the injuries that lead to his retirement .. wayyy messed up. He should not have been on the field, and not just right at the end when it became really obvious.
I hope he gets a gig, and I kinda hope it's with the Bears.

the Raiders just released some of their linemen as part of their purge ... maybe Kyle goes to the team where his dad made his career?
the meatball in me wants him to come back to the Bears but I doubt there is any real possibility that happens ... I wish him well wherever he ends up

(And I complain about guys coming back too soon. And meatballs insist it must be fine, because the team knows best and they wouldn't do it if it wasn't ok.)

Always liked Kyle, injuries just wrecked him. I wish him well unless he goes to a division rival.

Kyle's injury woes here were mostly his back and shoulder right?
Getting a knee injury sucks, but maybe a guy fell on him or something.
(unless of course he went the banned substance route to help recover and his tendons are now like brittle strings)
