This is another Pace move I like.

The kid had a ton of promise leading up to his draft but tore his ACL in a bowl game and has been bitten by the injury bug his whole career.

Hopefully he can follow the path of Zach Miller and start to live up to his potential with the Bears (minus the horrific injury that ended his career of course).

I’m excited about this. This dude should’ve made it in the pros.

He’s at the minicamp on a tryout basis. They can have 5 such players at minicamp. It’s him defensive back E.J. Gaines, tight end Sal Cannella, offensive lineman Tyrone Wheatley Jr. and defensive lineman Michael Pennel.

Does that mean that they are currently on our 90 man roster or just trying out for it?

The guy’s ACLs are barely holding together. Don’t get too excited.

Wheatley Jr is a converted TE. Athletic dude.

Butt was awesome at Michigan. One of the only fun things to watch about the team, and it's been pretty ugly here for a long time in Ann Arbor lol. If he was truly healthy, I'd love to see him on the Bears.

Like UOK said, he's had like 4 ACL injuries and has really not played in 4 years and hardly practiced. With today's medical technologies it is *possible* he's been fixed up. But it would be a super-surprising thing to see him playing at the NFL level with 2 bad wheels. He was slow prior to the injuries....

Butt has great hands but at this point he's probably a slower less athletic version of Jesper Horsted - who might be ready to break out, given Pace's relative lack of attention to the TE position beyond the top 2.

I believe they are just trying out, if they perform well you'll read a blurb saying they've signed a contract to attend Training Camp.

Very talented. Many injuries. But definitely worth giving him a shot.

I liked him a lot at Michigan, but the dude has unfortunately been snake-bitten and will never be the same player.

That said, I'll cheer for him despite his horrible choice of college.

What? So he can be the Butt of your jokes?

I was fighting it as hard as I could for the entire thread, but finally I just HAD to do it. I couldn't help myself.

Looks like Wheatley and Pennel both got contracts but no word on Butts so I assume we won’t have him in camp.

With his injury history he was a long shot but it was good to see them still working hard. To improve the bottom of the roster

Won't they have to cut two people? I thought the roster was at 89 with the release of Darrion Clarke earlier this week.

If Butt is healthy he should make the roster. Pennel has a chance if Tonga shows nothing and ends up on the practice squad. Do not see Wheatley making the roster or practice squad.

I'm rooting for the guy!!!!

Don't know why the other two signings got released so far ahead of his.

It would be amazing if Butt was healthy and could play. I'm guessing he's slower than molasses in January though. Can we sign him up with Monty's speed guru? Along with Horsted and Newsome?

Butt was never super fast to begin with. I don't think much will come of him. Pennel is the only one of the three that I could see sticking.

Which can also be read, "I'm guessing he's 'slower than molasses' in January though." Just don't use him in the playoffs.

It's a TE named Butt.

How could anyone be against this?

If he's healthy and still has his athleticism and strength, I like him as a TE3 or 4.
