You're speaking my language now Yogi. Oh that movie. Then The Color Of Money which you could argue is even better. The Color Of Money is one of my favorite movies ever. No clue how many times I've watched it.

“Eddie Goldman is a silent killer, Trevathan said. “He works his tail off, he loves his job. It’s going to great to have him this year, I know he’s going to be here this year.” He said that he’s been talking to Goldman as much as possible and that and that Goldman loves the Bears and he’s “going to come ready to work.”

The lack of communications between the 2 parties is not good. This session's been on the schedule, Goldman could have told them weeks ago if he had health concerns about attending.

I watched that last night. Like you I LOVE that movie. I think Tom Cruise is an odd duck but really like a lot of his movies, especially the older ones. All the Rights Moves is unrated IMO.

Color of Money is criminally underrated.

I've seen reviewers say 'Color of Money was a pale imitation of the original'.
No idea what they watched.

Trevathan also said he's "changed his body", so I'm thinking my Fats Domino theory was wrong.

Did we pay him for last year when he sat out for covid?

Players who sat out and were considered to be in a high-risk category received a "stipend" of $350k; those who were considered low-risk received $150k. Salary, any unpaid roster bonus, and likely to be earned incentives didn't count against the 2020 cap but any portion of prorated signing bonus still remained on the 2020 cap.

I don't love that the Bears are potentially replacing a 26yr old Goldman with a 30yr old Pennel.

Please save the day Khyris Tonga.

FWIW, Brad Biggs had no update to the situation in his latest piece. Essentially said that this is going to come down to July's camp.

The longer this goes on without updates, it feels like Goldman might just be done.

Biggs implied that if Goldman didn't miss football enough to the point of skipping minicamps, he may have discovered that the game no longer appeals. I'd imagine if Goldman was going to retire he'd do it before then, but who knows.

Goldman has not earned enough money to walk away IMO. He's made about 8M so far, but if he retires he'd have to give some of his 3M signing bonus money back (not sure how much). Then he'd be walking away from 7M this year, plus another 22M in 2022 and 2023 combined - a lot of that is guaranteed and even the unguaranteed part is a pretty safe bet he'd earn it all.

He's young, he could maybe live off what he's earned, but it would be fairly modest if it needed to carry him and his family for what, 50 or 60 years?

If I'm the Bears, I'm pressing him hard for answers. Because if he's gonna retire, we get back 7.8M of cap space this year and could use that money to shore up the line properly.

I think you're leaving out his rookie contract.
I count about 12M (pretax and agent) of nonrefundable earnings so far.

If he is indeed considering retirement, I doubt he cares about money. I don't mean that in some altruistic way, just that he may have decided he likes not playing football enough that the loss of income might not matter to him.

So much for the "we lost Fuller, but we got Goldman back" logic.
Mikefive's theory: The only time you KNOW that a sports team player, coach or management member is being 100% honest is when they're NOT reciting "the company line".

Go back to leather helmets, NFL.

Nagy expects Goldman to be at camp in July. He kept the conversation private which is good and there might be HIPAA rules or something.

But to @dplank 's point, it would be nice to know what's going on with Goldman because we could really use the cap money.

I just added up everything on Spotrac. I think he sill report to camp, it’s just too much money and his only opportunity in life to attain it most likely.

If he retires, the Bears have to actively chase down that portion of the signing bonus. I think there is a good chance the Bears don't go after money. It would be a bad PR move towards other potential FA signees; it's not a ton of money; they might not win due to COVID issues and could be required to pay his attorney fees in defending him.

That said, I think he will be back. 29 million over the next 2 years is hard to say no to, even if you've already made $15 million (giving him a higher number than he's made already). It's not like Erin walking away from what he could earn given he's made in excess of $1/4 billion through the NFL and his endorsements. That guys gone and I'm thrilled. Eddie will be back and I'm thrilled.

405 twice? Assuming those bumper plates equal that. Those trap bars get 405 and not much else. That's not really impressive. He didnt look overweight. So that's good but a very wierd video.
