Atlanta's Kyle Pitts has already set the team's yards for a rookie ATL TE (Tony Gonzales) and is closing in on Julio Jones' yardage for a rookie receiver on the team. He needs 128 yards in the final games to overtake Ditka's rookie TE receiving record of 1076 yards. TE is a tough position to transition to from college, with both catching and blocking responsibilities. Pitts is doing better at blocking and obviously is mastering the catching part of the job. Some guys are good/great WRs right out of college, some take 2 to 3 years to adapt, some never do. Records are made to be broken.

That's great. Consider he started a little slow (not unexpectedly)... and wow. There was an unusual number of top QB prospects last year but if it was this year, he would probably go first.
I kind of like Ditka's record going down. He's a huge dick.

Let's be honest, records are all a bit meaningless when the number of games change. Ditka did his in what, 14 games? If Pitts breaks it playing in 17 then it's still an achievement but not nearly as great a one.

yeah, and it is only going to get more convoluted with other records ... I think they should separate the 14 game season records in order to honor the old timers who set those records in tougher circumstancesHisRoyalSweetness wrote: ↑Thu Dec 30, 2021 1:37 pm Let's be honest, records are all a bit meaningless when the number of games change. Still not worth a pick that high.

I'd be on board with that. Jim Brown did the same with rushing records. Plus the game has changed so much, QBs back then didn't put up 4000 and 5000 yard seasons throwing so many times per game. To me, it's also meaningless to compare players from different eras, the game changes appreciably every decade.HisRoyalSweetness wrote: ↑Thu Dec 30, 2021 1:37 pm Let's be honest, records are all a bit meaningless when the number of games change.
