Well, which is it. Do we have a leader of the Bears organization, or a McCaskey stooge?

I'm calling him an Inspiring Hire.
I think he came in with a short list of guys he could work with and George recognized one of the names.

There is a GM named Poles
Who has a clear set of goals
He’s rebuilt his team
So Bears’ fans can dream
Of winning some more Super Bowls

My worst fear at this point is that George forces Caldwell as the HC.
I have good vibes about Poles. Comes from a winner. Worked his way up. He will value the OL. All good signs.
Just let him hire his guy.

The Trib reports he is also talking to Bowles.
The secret is to work less as individuals and more as a team. As a coach, I play not my eleven best, but my best eleven.

Good. None of the first timers are terribly exciting. I'm fine with giving a guy who was hired by the Jets another opportunity.
Holy Shit - We got Justin Fields!

I voted that he'd hire his own guy, but his own guy might be one of those three finalists.

Yeah. I'm on board with Bowles, Flores, and Eberflus. Hard pass on Frazier and Caldwell.Hiphopopotamos wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 1:51 pmGood. None of the first timers are terribly exciting. I'm fine with giving a guy who was hired by the Jets another opportunity.

I wondered this too. Based on his involvement in building the KC roster, he clearly values strength in the trenches and speed at the skill positions.Yogi da Bear wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 1:54 pm I voted that he'd hire his own guy, but his own guy might be one of those three finalists.

A surprise hire could be spagnola
I will kill you if you cut me at the knees. You will drink with me when invited and stay til I say so. We only listen to American Music. I make men nervous with just my presence. I expect an apology if you hold. I throw linemen at QB's. Believe the Lore!

Spagnola or Spagnuolo? If you're talking about Spagnuolo, hard pass. He was terrible as a coach in St. Louis and KC's defense has been really bad.

It is being reported that Poles is going to be in full control of the HC interviews. This is a good sign.
He has to pay lip service to the favorites of the gang of five, but it appears as if he has the autonomy to go his own way.

Sorry I didn’t get the spelling right, but he has done more with less in that defense than many other coaches. That defense does play good when it has to many times. It’s not the coaches fault that his guys fell over and three long touchdown passes from Allen.Bears Whiskey Nut wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 2:05 pmSpagnola or Spagnuolo? 3 GMs, all from unique backgrounds.
Would another org experience be nice? Yea, but it's still significantly more diverse than Pace who only really saw Loomis-Payton-Brees

I've almost convinced myself that Quinn is going to be the next HC.

Poles has more diverse experience than it might seem originally.
At KC:
He first served under Scott Pioli for four years. Pioli was mentored for years by Bellichek. From the mid-eighties with the Giants to following him to the Browns, Ravens, Jets, and Patriots through 2009 when he accepted the GM job in KC.
Then he served for four years under John Dorsey. Dorsey served with the Packers under Ron Wolf from 92-99 when he migrated to Seattle with Mike Holmgren for two years. He returned to Green Bay where he served with Mike Sherman and then Ted Thompson for 13 years before becoming GM in Kansas City.
Then he served under Brett Veach for the past three years. Veach served with Andy Reid in Philly for 9 years before following Reid to KC in 2013 and has been there since.
So despite only being with one team, Poles has a bunch of experience with various GMs who have each been mentored in various schools of thought from some of the most famous football minds in the past thirty years.
I feel really, really good about him. And I have no problem with him picking his own head coach whomever it ends up being. That's why we hired him.

I think he’ll hire his own man.
I think he negotiated well in his interview.
I think G Mac wanted him to hire one of their preferred 3 men but Poles didn’t want to be constrained in his hire.
So I think the compromise position is Poles will interview the 3 men who have been shortlisted so far (JFC, Quinn and Eberflus) and if he’s not happy with one of them he’ll interview his own men with GMac, Soup, Polian et Al involved.
With the first HC interviews being virtual, they could be recorded and Poles would have access to them. He could be trawling through them as we type.

I think he'll hire his own man, but his first choice might be subject to a George veto if some rumors are correct.

I think he hires his own guy. That being said if his pick is one of these defensive minded coaches...please please have someone planned who can actually develop Fields. I still want Dabbol but I think the Giants snag him. Pass on Frazier, and Caldwell for sure. I would be ok with Flores but again have a good plan for OC. Flores actually got stuck with some bad OC options that might not have been his fault.
Either way..have a good plan for Fields!!

I want to change my vote to milquetoast because he’s going to hire Jim Caldwell.
Poles seems to be a “yes man” for G Mac.
What a shame
