I usually upload a fresh stats page the day after the game. Something to show appreciation to those that joined us. Monstershow has been getting pretty good participation so far this year.

Some have been asking why they can't connect to the old java page.

Professor Blecht's simple instructions for a Monstershow java connection.

Windows Users (Win7, Win 8 and Win8.1):
1. Close all web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, IE)
2. Click on Start
3. Type "Configure Java" in the search bar and click on the result
4. Go to the "Security" tab
5. Click "Edit site list" and click Add.
6. Add "http://webpages.charter.net/badfinger/chat.html"
7. Click "OK" to get out of the site list window
8. Click the Advanced tab. Under Java console, choose "Show Console"
9. Click "OK" to get out of the "Configure Java" window

Mac Users:
1. Close all web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Safari)
2. Go to "System Preferences"
3. Click on "Java"
4. Click on the "Security" tab
5. Click "Edit Site Configuration"
6. Add "http://webpages.charter.net/badfinger/chat.html"
7. Click the Advanced tab. Under Java console, choose "Show Console"
8. Close the windows to save

Having difficulty getting on with Win 10..

I'm running windoze 10 on my laptop. I can connect to the java site with no problem. The same instructions should be good. I've only used the firefox browser. Haven't tried connecting with chrome or the new MS edge browser which I don't think is completely hatched yet. Might be good to make sure you're running the latest java.

I made a season updated chat room stats page. I haven’t been updating the stats page much this season. Ormazd asked about it today in the chat room. I didn’t think there was much interest in viewing the chat stats anymore. It's always interesting to see how much some of us cuss in there.

The new Firefox browser update has hosed the java chat applet on my page.

“Beginning in Firefox version 52, support for NPAPI plugins in Firefox has ended, except for Adobe Flash. Some of the plugins that will no longer load include Java, Microsoft Silverlight and Adobe Acrobat. See this compatibility document for details.”

Also I had to update the mibbit link because one of starfyre’s servers is set to SSL only.
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is the standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a browser. This link ensures that all data passed between the web server and browsers remain private and integral.

Unfortunately the Chrome & the latest Firefox browsers are now blocking java applets. Java chat will still work using the debunked internet explorer browser IF you haven’t updated java past version 8 update 121. Be careful with internet explorer since Microsoft is no longer updating it since its spamming edge browser debut.
I added a mibbit iframe to my page so there’s a mibbit chat window there too instead of only a link.

G08: glad you got the java to work on firefox. All I can figure is you don't have auto update ticked.
malk: you connected with the mibbit connection. That works on any browser still, mibbit doesn't use java.

The charter link has both java & mibbit connections. People without java or an updated browser blocking java will only see the mibbit connection.

Maybe I found a way of making the java chat applet work again for some of you. It's working on all 3 of my systems now.

Does this work on mobile?

I admit I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer and my driveway doesn’t go all the way to the garage. There are a few more sounds in the chat than just goats.

You can access the chat from any device if you have the right program. I use AndChat on my android phone. Just configure your device to point at irc.starfyre.org and join channel #Monstershow. The mibbit webpage doesn’t work real well from a phone just because the type is too small.

That sure was an ugly end to the preseason tonight. Those browns look extra mean this year. After they already roughed Mitch out of bounds. I wasn’t pleased to see him have to reenter the game when Shaw went down.

Trying to connect via AndChat. Thought it'd be a case of pointing the address at irc.starfyre.org then joining the channel. Instead it just states disconnected: connection refused.

What rookie mistake am I making?
