NFL Season without fans poll

It's starting to look pretty bad for the upcoming NFL season. Recent comments from high up folks are saying basically no concerts or sports until a vaccine, which isn't likely to be available until next spring. That puts the 2020 season in major jeopardy.

If this in fact takes place and the season cannot be played with fans in the stands, I'm curious what you all think about the two options we'd be left with?

losing the fans takes a LOT away from the game. Long term it's not sustainable. But for a single season, I could live with it and I think they could do some pretty clever stuff with a quiet stadium broadcast (hearing the players on the field for example, would be pretty cool).

From an entertainment perspective, no question that fanless games would be far more entertaining than nothing.

From a societal and ethical standpoint, I think they should pack it in and show classic games or 30/30 kind of stuff instead.

A lot will come down to whether or not MLB or NBA come back with quarantine friendly seasons first or not. That would give NFL lots of good data to base a plan around.

Assuming they can resolve testing issues, I think one thing is going to be expanded rosters. Like a 30 man practice squad that practices in their own quarantine and a special quarantine-reserve where ANY player immediately goes for 2-3 weeks if tested positive until they can participate in any league activity.

And maybe there is no Super Bowl this year and instead a more competitive Pro Bowl to cap the season (as there could be questions of legitimacy if a third of the leagues players are shuffling on and off quarantine the whole year)

I had to laugh a little thinking how much profanity would be heard with no fans in the stands.

The game might be one long “beeeeeeep”.

Football without fans is better than no football at all. If it is practical, play without fans. I will still watch.

As for reruns and things like that, I have been enjoying the 2010 Stanley Cup Finals again. GAme 6 tonight. KANER!!!!

I certainly will be watching the "fan-less" draft and I will do the same for the games.

As a STH, I wonder how they will handle our payments that have all already been fully made for a fan-less season.

Fuck any team that doesn't offer a full refund.

I live in Atlanta and been looking forward to Bears coming here this year. that looks shot :( however I would take games with no fans over no games any day.

As long as I can watch the games then I'm good. And yes teams can play in empty stadiums just ask The Bengals and The Redskins, LOL.

But even without fan attendance it would be almost impossible to still put teams on the field. There are hundreds of people just on the team; the players, coaches, assistances, etc, etc. Given how contagious Covid-19 is having all those people around would spread it and continue the problem. The only way is if everyone on the team is tested negative and then kept quarantine among themselves for the entire season to ensure no new cases breakout. I mean they would all have to stay in one location to live, go to practice and back and then only leave to play games then repeat the cycle until the seasons over. Call me crazy but I don't think the memebers of the team would go for that?
And if a key member of the organization is positive ie the starting QB, left tackle, shutdown corner, top EDGE, etc, etc, and is out for the season then the team is screwed.

Even with the prospect of fanless stadiums the season is still endagered? :(

I think it comes down to what the teams and players want since they are the ones taking all the risk. Currently, they are about as far away from essential as you can be so if the lockdown is still in place I can't see how they would ever get a greenlight.

dont see the season going ahead, if it were that simple as just not letting fans in to games, i think leagues like the NBA or Premier League would be doing it.

sucks, like really fuckin sucks.

Imagine being a bucs fan though and signing brady and then not getting a season, hahaha

September is 5 months away. While packing stadiums full of people might still be too much by then, I think we'll be much closer to 'normal' by time the NFL season is supposed to start. And they'll be doing what they can to play, it'll cost them too much money not to.

I think the NBA/NHL are done, they'll have to wait until next season. And MLB? Hard to say, my guess is no season there at all.

if they do decide to play without fans, then I imagine the games will be played at team practice facilities rather than at the stadiums? that would cut down on the amount of technical staff required

Do all the teams have practice facilities that can accommodate 2 full teams in separate locker rooms? I'm guessing not.

The NFL is a multi billion dollar product which in turn is run by multi billionaires. They can build some make shift facilities or find some other way around it. If that was the only hurdle to a season I would feel confident we would get our football on.

There is going to be a lot of information between now and then. Antibody tests are just starting to give some results into how many people have actually had it and recovered.

I'll die without football. I'm mentally preparing myself for death, because I can't see it happening. Even without fans it is 4-500 people at the event. Too many. Some cities won't want to allow it. Think about how bad it would suck if they *tried* but then after a few weeks players started getting sick and they had to abort. That would suck worse, I think.

I voted "no fans" but my brain is telling me the next games we see are fall of '21.

This is a stupid poll/thread, I'm sorry.

We have no idea what this will all look like in August. To try and get a read on it now is just asking people to talk out of their ass. We don't know exactly what this will bring next week, much less 4-5 months from now. We're in a much better place than projections had us at not too long ago.

NFL officials just announced that they're currently planning on a normal season.

That's also NOT what has been said (pertaining to your comment on the vaccine). It's all speculation and opinion. You can find different opinions from different people. Fauci himself said it's realistic that baseball could resume quite soon with no fans. That could mean that they finish the season WITH fans.

I would say it is unlikely that the NFL season is tinkered with outside of some general guidelines for fans attending games. Possible things like having your temperature taken at the gate. Don't come if you have pre-existing conditions, etc. BUT AGAIN... that's just me talking out of my ass. My sister is an MD - so... I basically just regurgitate what she says.

Some states will be reopening with the next 2-3 weeks. On the flip-side, we have no idea what the inevitable resurgence in cases will be like and what we will/won't know about treating the virus when that time comes.

So, this is just silly... It's like asking people "who should we elect for president in 2040?". We don't even know what the circumstances are or what our options will be.

God forbid someone on a football message board wonder aloud if there's going to be, you know, football.
