TAMPA, Fla. (AP)—The Tennessee Titans and Buffalo will play in the 2009 Hall of Fame game, a day after Bills owner Ralph Wilson and former star Bruce Smith are inducted.
The exhibition in Canton, Ohio, on Aug. 9 will begin the NFL’s celebration marking the 50th year of its AFL teams. The Bills and Titans, who started out as the Houston Oilers, will wear their original uniforms.
The 90-year-old Wilson was elected to the Hall on Saturday. Induction ceremonies will be held at the shine on Aug. 8, with Wilson among six new members.
The Titans’ franchise has been owned by Bud Adams since its inception. The American League Football played its first season in 1960, and the AFL-NFL merger came in 1970.
Buffalo’s throwback uniform features a red buffalo on a white helmet. The Oilers, based in Houston through 1996, had the logo of an oil derrick on their helmets.

I looked it up and found that this will be the FIRST time that the Pro Football Hall of Fame game matches two teams from the same conference. Before the 2009 game, the game was always a matchup of an AFC team vs. an NFC team since the 1970 merger.
