He'll go Day 2 based on athleticism alone. He's my #2 C.
I like him a lot, and I don't find his size marginal at all.

I’d prefer a veteran center.

Maybe.
I like Mason Cole or Brian Allen, but not keen on the UFA cost..
I'm interested in a vet if someone gets cut and doesn't risk future comp picks, though.

Just find a veteran stopgap in this range and move on, I think is my plan B

Those last two are almost enough to make me optimistic about next year, Mori. Good job.
My take on a maximum trade-down dealie, on PFN:
52. Sean Rhyan, G, UCLA. I still like Daniels to center. and I really like Rhyan as a RG.
71. Jalen Pitre, S, Baylor. Eddie Jackson's the girl with the curl, which is a terrible look for a safety. As long as we're stuck with him, the best complement to his style of, for lack of a better word, play is a guy who can do just about anything.
84. Alec Pierce, WR, Cincinnati. One of those size/speed/athleticism guys who'll have quite a bit to learn about beating CBs on the NFL level. But he's got a ton to work with.
147. Jalyn Armour-Davis, CB, Alabama. I don't know why he was here. Josh Jobe was, too, and some other intriguing candidates. The way things unfolded, this was the right time to address the position.
175. Leo Chenal, LB, Wisconsin. Anyone's a good running buddy for Roquan, but Chenal complements his game in a lot of interesting ways. A-gap blitzes could be back.
186. Esezi Otomewo, DE, Minnesota. I like John Ridgeway a lot, but I wanted to add a WR at 84 even more. Otomewo is like Pierce in a way: all the physical characteristics and college production, probably quite a bit of technique to learn.
202. Christopher Allen, OLB, Alabama. When/if he gets reliably healthy, he's a steal here. Worth taking a shot at a pass-rusher this talented.
243. Jequez Ezzard, WR, Sam Houston State. Because I'm taking him toward the end of every draft.
257. Ryan Van Demark, OT, Connecticut. Tall, athletic prospect in the Nate Solder mold. Give him a year or two to bulk up a bit, and in the meantime you've got a great addition to the locker room.

So much road and so few places, so much friendliness and so little intimacy, so much flavour and so little taste.
Friendship is better than fighting, but fighting is more useful.

Aw, thanks.
As a little bit of cold water, though:
- We have no idea who the GM will be and if he will seek the trade downs like we are.
- Day 3 steals become tougher and tougher as the draft approaches. People may be late to the party on identifying less conspicuous talent, but as the months pass, eventually they catch on and the cream rises up the boards.
- I'm not sure how reasonable these trades are. I think they're good. I actually refrain from trying to squeeze out every bit I can get, taking less just to be realistic. But I'm having some trouble with valuation. Going to make a separate thread soon.

First mock post Eberflus. Let's get that D some foundation pieces (attack O in FA). PFN Simulator.
40. Perrion Winfrey, DT Oklahoma
+(traded down one slot and picked up pick 250)
A classic 3T. I think they should let Nichols walk and sign a stop gap to complement their current DI core. So it would be a great spot to add a young player in the draft.
Honestly having a hard time deciding how him and Roquan Smith fit best as Mike and Will. A welcome challenge for Flus and his DC. Either way a big time athletic presence here. Like DT, I see LB as another possible stop gap FA role for Bears, so another great spot to inject youth.
149.Brian Robinson Jr., RB Alabama
Both repeats from one of my first mocks. Both development/2023 roles. Neither likely big 2022 impact.
Had to have our OL GM pick up a OL in his first draft right? A lengthy OT at 6'7", he's only 313. But somewhat surprising, sounds like Run blocking is his strength. Could be a hedge for Borom eventually kicking inside and a future RT.
At this stage always a bit of a flyer. Note he sat out his Jr year due to myocarditis

A classic 3T. I think they should let Nichols walk and sign a stop gap to complement their current DI core. So it would be a great spot to add a young player in the draft.
71. Brandon Smith, LB Penn StateAthletically, Winfrey is fascinating. He stands at around 6’3″, 290 pounds, and has solid — though not elite — proportional length. Along with a robust length/leverage combination, Winfrey has an explosive get-off. He brings a lot of juice as a rusher, and he’s incredibly twitchy for his size. His upper body is extremely amped-up, and he pairs it with the lateral athleticism to shift past gaps and manipulate blocking angles.
Honestly having a hard time deciding how him and Roquan Smith fit best as Mike and Will. A welcome challenge for Flus and his DC. Either way a big time athletic presence here. Like DT, I see LB as another possible stop gap FA role for Bears, so another great spot to inject youth.
147.Jalyn Armour-Davis, CB AlabamaIn addition to his play speed, Smith exhibits impressive lateral agility. He can effortlessly sidestep a blocker with a remarkable change-of-direction ability when attempting to force his way into the backfield. Additionally, he demonstrates that ability in coverage where he is adept at matching tight ends and running backs
149.Brian Robinson Jr., RB Alabama
Both repeats from one of my first mocks. Both development/2023 roles. Neither likely big 2022 impact.
Jalyn Armour-Davis is starting to get some buzz, but in case word hasn’t gotten around, he is legit. The 6’1″, 192-pound cornerback often plays second fiddle to Josh Jobe in mock drafts, but I think Armour-Davis is actually the better prospect. Both are long coverage defenders, but Armour-Davis is more twitchy, fluid, and natural with his footwork. He’s also less reckless from a physicality standpoint.
186. Cordell Volson, OT North Dakota StateRobinson’s footwork is exceptionally coordinated and perhaps the primary meshing agent for his game. The Alabama RB churns his feet as he approaches holes and can utilize shuffles, stutter steps, and gallops to adjust his angle and set up runs. He can also kick his feet up to avoid arm tackles in the backfield and has a natural feel for staying upright.
Had to have our OL GM pick up a OL in his first draft right? A lengthy OT at 6'7", he's only 313. But somewhat surprising, sounds like Run blocking is his strength. Could be a hedge for Borom eventually kicking inside and a future RT.
250. Chigoziem Okonkwo, TE MarylandVolson is an effective run blocker with impressive power. He thrives in driving people to the ground. However, there’s a technical ability to his menace, and he showcases an understanding of utilizing angles to create holes. Additionally, Volson possesses the vertical athleticism to get out to the second and third levels and continue to wreak havoc.
At this stage always a bit of a flyer. Note he sat out his Jr year due to myocarditis
As a a Senior (2021): Started all 13 games at tight end ... Stood second on team with 52 receptions for 447 yards with a team-best five touchdowns

Switching it up with a PFF mock
Traded 39 for 61, 93, 131, and a 2023 3rd
2-61, Kyler Gordon, CB • Washington
https://www.profootballnetwork.com/kyle ... port-2022/

5-144, Pierre Strong Jr., HB • South Dakota State
https://thedraftnetwork.com/articles/pi ... kota-state
5-148, Jack Sanborn, LB • Wisconsin
https://thedraftnetwork.com/player/jack-sanborn
6-185, Matthew Butler, DI • Tennessee
https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/Player/Mat ... -Tennessee
Traded 39 for 61, 93, 131, and a 2023 3rd
2-61, Kyler Gordon, CB • Washington
https://www.profootballnetwork.com/kyle ... port-2022/
2022 role, starting CBGordon is an extremely explosive and twitchy athlete who accelerates quickly and emanates energy in coverage. He’s a fluid mover with smooth hips and easy change-of-direction ability. Moreover, the Washington CB possesses impressive agility in short ranges. He can get low in his stance and stack quick direction changes while keeping his balance.
A history with dance, kung fu, and ballet has helped Gordon refine his efficiency of motion. But you simply can’t replace traits — and Gordon has them. With his fast feet, fluid hips, and short-area burst, Gordon is incredibly sticky in coverage. He flashes insane closing speed at the catch point, and he can hit a rare second gear when initiating toward plays
3-71, Chad Muma, LB • Wyoming
https://www.profootballnetwork.com/chad ... port-2022/
2022 role, Starting Mike LBThe Wyoming linebacker has excellent ability to diagnose against the run. He reads the play well and is rarely wrong-footed. Furthermore, he can fill gaps to prevent big running plays. Muma also has decent sideline-to-sideline range, enabling him to chase down ball carriers.
As a tackler, Muma is a heavy hitter. You don’t want to meet him in the alley. But, more than this, he is efficient. In the games studied, he allowed very few broken tackles.
3-93, Skyy Moore, WR • Western Michigan
https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/Player/Sky ... rnMichigan
2022 role, Slot WRHas incredible top speed with rare suddenness and lightning footwork to create in tight areas with elusive shiftiness and change-of-direction skills.
Has the strong soft hands any NFL wide receiver coach and quarterback would covet - has only 7 drops his entire college career
4-131, Luke GoedekeT, T • Central Michigan
https://www.google.com/amp/s/syndicatio ... t.amp.html
2022 role, backup tackle/guard. 9th OL.Overall, Goedeke is still new to the offensive line without consecutive seasons at the position and just two total seasons after converting from tight end in 2019 and missing the 2020 season with a knee injury. He has a sawed-off, stout build with the play strength, competitive toughness and balance to make a successful transition inside. Goedeke's demeanor and knack for staying attached to blocks using a strong latch and leg drive should allow him to compete for a job right away while presumably having room to ascend as he gains experience.
5-144, Pierre Strong Jr., HB • South Dakota State

2022 role, 3rd RB, eventual RB2 in a timeshare with HerbertWith an improved presence on the outside in space, his developing versatility is what makes Strong that much more intriguing as a prospect. While much can change from now until next spring when rookie minicamps kick-off, Strong reminds me eerily of Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler. A downhill thumper that isn’t afraid to initiate contact, Strong’s knack for finding creases in between the tackles while showcasing his wiggle and open-field vision in the pass game is very reminiscent of the Chargers’ former UDFA. And while both dominated the lower ranks during their collegiate tenure, who’s to say Strong can’t mirror Ekeler, or Jacksonville’s James Robinson, as the next non-FBS talent to make waves on Sunday?
5-148, Jack Sanborn, LB • Wisconsin
https://thedraftnetwork.com/player/jack-sanborn
2022 role, special teamer, backup Mike LB, with possibility to push for starting Sam LBSanborn offers impressive football IQ, showing situational awareness to attack the football as a tackler or to try to hold up the ball-carrier to make him available for an attempt to strip the ball. He’s fairly diverse and has taken snaps as an end man on the line of scrimmage, mugged up in interior gaps, or as a true stack backer.
6-185, Matthew Butler, DI • Tennessee
https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/Player/Mat ... -Tennessee
2022 role, potential rotational 3T or practice squaderPlayed with good leverage, even on the nose, despite average bulk. Hustle defender with a good bull rush inside that can close and get home when quarterbacks leave the pocket.
Lower than offensive lineman on every short-yardage play. Good agility and ability to change direction for his size.
Provides some secondary interior pass rush, getting most penetration when playing three technique.

PFF has extended to 7 rounds and dropped a lot of intriguing small schoolers into the list, leading to the Small School Special below (not deliberate, just worked out that way).
Gave 71
Got 75 + 189 + 228
Gave 75
Got 92 +130

2-39 Devonte Wyatt 3T Georgia
6’3 315 4.95, 2 yrs starting, AllSEC 1st tm
3-92 Troy Andersen M(?)LB Montana State
6’2 235 4.65, AllAmer 1st tm, started games at LB, QB, and HB
I’m not nearly this sold on him this early, but I had no trade offers, and not many choices here.
4-130 Jaivon Heiligh WR Coastal Carolina
6’0 200 4.45, 3 yrs starting, AllSB 1st tm, 1000+ once, returns punts
5-144 Alec Lindstrom C Boston College
6'3 300 5.3, 3 yrs starting, AllACC 1st tm, bloodlines
5-175 Micah McFadden LB Indiana

6-189 Kennedy Brooks HB Oklahoma
5'10 215 4.5, 3 yrs 1000+ yds, 2nd tm AllBig12

It's the time of year when a (young) man's thoughts turn to: the NFL Draft.
The Bears trade #39 and #149 to Denver for #40 and #96
The Bears trade #40 and #186 to WFT for #42 and #110
The Bears trade #42 and a 2023 7th to NE for #54 and #85
54: George Pickens, WR, Georgia
71: Rasheed Walker, OT, Penn State
85: Alex Lindstrom, C, Boston College
96: Jalen Pitre, S, Baylor
126: Alontree Taylor, CB, Tennessee
147: Christian Watson, WR, NDSU
Probably should have looked deeper in LBs, need at least 1 of them

PFN mock with some dust half-settled.
Primary goals: Shore up the offensive line and WR corps
Secondary goals: Add someone in the back seven, depth and stuff
Trades:
39 for 40 and 177 (Pittsburgh had traded down, and wanted Pickett)
40 for 44 (Zion Johnson) and 115
Picks:
44: David Bell, WR, Purdue. Exactly the kind of WR we need. A few were around, hence the trade-down. I wouldn't have minded Christian Watson here, either, at this point.
71: Jalen Pitre, S, Baylor. The really top-notch OTs were gone, and I'm gambling that a couple of solid guys will still be around later. Pitre is pretty proud of the herd here, and could really galvanize the defense.
115: Calvin Austin, WR, Memphis: Don't know how realistic this is, but stranger things have happened. Just happens to add yet another set of distinctive skills to the WR corps. Not a lot of O-line talent had gone since 71, so it's upside once again.
147: Braxton Jones, OT, Southern Utah. We might need help at G more than at T, but we absolutely should bring along a good OT prospect this year. Get a cadre of young linemen coming up in the same system and all.
149: Cole Strange, G, UT-Chattanooga. Answered every question at Senior Bowl practices--not perfect, but a convincing prospect. Still a smaller-school guy, and not an instant celebrity like Quinn Meinertz, so he could slip. Did a nice job at center by all reports.
177. Shaun Jolly, CB, Appalachian State. Yeah, he's shorter. But damn, he's good. I don't know if he's a nickel or a boundary corner, but he'll find a place. Got hurt in Shrine Game practice, but assuming that it's nothing lasting, Jolly seems like exactly the kind of disruptive force we're looking for in the secondary.
186. Mike Rose, MLB, Iowa State. Speaking of injuries, I guess we'll see how Rose bounces back for the combine. I don't know if Eberflus imagines this kind of MLB, but Rose has some coverage skills to go along with his downhill ability. I just like a guy like that in the middle if our line is going to focus on shooting gaps.
I'd have liked a 3-tech, a TE, an SLB, and maybe another DE for the rotation. All but the first of those, though, are the sorts of things we can safely address down the line, when we've answered some more important questions.

Thanks for hepping me to the fact that PFF's opened things up. Here's what I done on there.
Trades:
39 for 46 and 116
71 and 148 for 67, 205, and 206
116 and 206 for 120 and 159
46: David Bell, WR, Purdue. Seems like the ideal WR1 for us.
67: Jalen Pitre, DB, Baylor. Safety or nickelback, I think he'd be great for us. Less worried about the D-line now that we're switching systems.
120: Tyler Smith, OL, Tulsa. Imagine the right side of our line with him and Jenkins.
144: Braxton Jones, OT, Southern Utah. Raw, but I'd much rather have a guy on his rookie contract with this kind of upside than to cross our fingers on a proven mediocrity of a FA.
159: Calvin Austin, WR, Memphis. What am I missing here? I know he's not tall, but he's got fantastic quickness, runs excellent routes...haven't heard anything about his hands. Anyway, between Bell and the burners, there'd seem to be room for a guy like this.
ON EDIT: Got it: he's 5' 7.5" tall. Dangit. I'd been thinking that he was 5' 9" or so, but just saw the Senior Bowl measurements. Screw it, let's still draft him.
185: Zyon McCollum, CB, Sam Houston State. I still want Jequez Ezzard on this team. But he's by all accounts an URFA. While I've been trying to find something to dislike about Ezzard, I couldn't help but notice this gigantic, fluid corner. Coached up, McCollum could be fantastic in the new scheme.
205. Mike Rose, MLB, Iowa State. Sticking to this one. I think he'll be good if the injury isn't too bad.

That said:
- I genuinely would have played it this way.
- The trades are all balanced and no 'lucky gifts' like picking up a pick for moving 1-3 places down.
- It's a nice (partial) list of late players I like
- There's so few guys under contract, that all of these guys could make the roster (although with 15 Day 3 picks, obviously there would be some flops)

Hell yeah. I'm not gonna lie, I didn't look at a single pick yet, but I want Poles to do something like this this year. Trade down, trade down, trade down. Accrue a mammoth draft class of underrateds and no-names. Let them be fresh to soak in the new offense and HITS philosophy.Moriarty wrote: ↑Sun Feb 06, 2022 5:07 pm https://www.nflmockdraftdatabase.com/
I went a little crazy here, setting a new record for most trades and picks, probably.
That said:
I genuinely would have played it this way.
The trades are all balanced and no 'lucky gifts' like picking up a pick for moving 1-3 places down.
It's a nice (partial) list of late players I like
There's so few guys under contract, that all of these guys could make the roster (although with 15 Day 3 picks, obviously there would be some flops)

Did my first, had one trade where I picked up a couple extra picks and it turned out pretty good...
CHI
39. Zion Johnson, OG Boston College
CHI
71. Bernhard Raimann, OT Central Michigan
CHI
149. Dontario Drummond, WR Mississippi
CHI
171. Dohnovan West, OG Arizona State
CHI
186. Tyreke Smith, EDGE Ohio State
CHI
187. Akayleb Evans, CB Missouri
CHI
253. Reed Blankenship, S Middle Tennessee
I didn't get the LB or DT that I wanted.
But three potential starting offensive linemen, a potential starting corner, a burner at WR, a rotational DE, and a ST ace at safety seems like a good haul.

I appreciate the work you guys put into these as I don't really follow college football. The extent of my pre-draft prep is reading this site, getting excited about a few prospects based on little to no information, then being devastated when we don't get them in the draft even though I can't even spell their name.
Post draft I do deep dives into every pick to try and have some opinion of my own on them, but before the draft there's just too many guys to look at.

The point is doing them now is just to get an idea of who is available each round. I find myseld looking up the top few prospects at each position when I get on the clock. Some of the prospect rankings are way off right now so things will change as we get closer to the draft.

I have been trying to trade down a bunch but not having as much luck finding good players doing that anymore. This is the first one I have done that I like in a long while!

Romeo Doubs is a guy that I seem to hit in the 3rd a lot. I think he's a finesse WR who thinks he's faster/shiftier than he really is. Good talent prospect, but someone who will take a little bit to fully mature as an NFL WR.Z Bear wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 5:39 pm I have been trying to trade down a bunch but not having as much luck finding good players doing that anymore. I will kill you if you cut me at the knees. You will drink with me when invited and stay til I say so. We only listen to American Music. I make men nervous with just my presence. I expect an apology if you hold. I throw linemen at QB's. Believe the Lore!

Restrained myself more this time. Only 2 deals.

2-53 Perrion Winfrey 3T | Oklahoma Oklahoma TRADE
I feel like Wyatt or Winfrey is almost a necessity, unless there's a FA they're eyeing.
3-71 Brandon Smith MLB | Penn State Penn State
3-86 Alec Pierce WR | Cincinnati Cincinnati TRADE
Even though there's nothing sane you could do to put the WR corps in good shape for 2022, I feel like you have to at least start the rehab. WRs take time to develop.
5-147 Cade Otton TE | Washington Washington
I like Jesse James, but with Otton on the board 60some spots below his rating, you gotta jump.
5-149 Alec Lindstrom C | Boston College Boston College
In R5, it makes sense, whether you do or don't intend to temporarily move Whitehair back
6-215 Zach Tom T/C | Wake Forest Wake Forest TRADE
T is pretty bare if they are down on Borom. Tom is athletic.
7-241 Kennedy Brooks RB | Oklahoma Oklahoma TRADE
Always keep the bench stocked with (cheap) options.
7-256 Markquese Bell S | Florida A&M Florida A&M TRADE
Another position that could use 3-4 guys, but 1 will have to do.
7-258 Charleston Rambo WR | Miami (FL) Miami (FL) TRADE
Baffled he doesn't have more interest. At worst, I think he can contribute when you go 4 wide.
