Asked a DPP the best interview they've had so far, "Mahomes. I love that kid."

What do you Mahomes bros think?
Cutler is his comparison!?

That's not at all the impression I got, but whatever.

Lazy way of calling him a gunslinger. They're not wrong... this dude can and has completed passes that maybe 1 or 2 can actually do in the NFL -- one of them being Cutler.

Still don't get that when reading the Kizer profile actually SOUNDED like Cutler... I think Mahomes is a mix of Stafford and Roethlisberger... but Zierlein was mainly meaning size comparisons :shrugs:

When QBs playing with awful defences get criticised for being over aggressive I don't know what the scouts are thinking. It makes it more difficult sure but how can you criticise something without an alternative? If he's conservative Tech lose every game so the other option is, what, be perfect?

I agree. You have to account for the Tech offense playing from behind a LOT. And their OL was really inconsistent. Mahomes simply couldn't stand there in the pocket all the time.

I said some time ago that Mahomes is reminiscent of Cutler. Just add to it that he shows the ability to make smart plays when thinking on his feet. He needs to learn to operate in a more controlled manner in an NFL offense and limit his freelancing to when the pocket breaks down a few times a game--and watch him turn into John Elway in those situations.
Mikefive's theory: The only time you KNOW that a sports team player, coach or management member is being 100% honest is when they're NOT reciting "the company line".

Mahomes did well at the combine, I am guessing he interviewed very well.

There's some "Jay Cutler" vibe with Mahomes as a talent. Mahomes is much better in the football character department thus far.

Cutler's a very divisive figure. It's bad enough he's statistically .500 more or less as a Bear, but obviously his attitude and ambivalence about embracing his position as a franchise and community leader has people disgusted with him. It's all about perspective, and god knows we've have 100000000 threads about Cutler over the years where people have in equal portion hated and defended him.

I can understand people comparing him to Jay because of arm strength (but his arm isn't as strong as Jay's - noone in the NFL throws harder), but personality wise? Not even remotely similar.

Mahomes was all smiles during his interviews and in other write ups they said other players gravitated towards him, kinda what you look like in a leader. I just get the feeling that he is a natural leader and guys want to get line with him.

Yes he and Watson seem to have that "leadership" tag. It can be debated on importance, but generally they probably score the highest marks in that category.

A couple things that I think have gone a bit unnoticed as well... Mahomes finished with the third fastest 3 cone at 6.88 and a short shuttle of 4.08... the 3 cone time puts him in the middle of the pack of WRs and his short shuttle would put him in the upper half of the WR prospects, all the guys who were faster than him were all around 209lbs and less, so he ran a 4.08 short shuttle at 225 pounds... so while his 40 was only 4.8, his short area burst is insane...

Mike Mayock compared Mahomes to Cutler because he said that every time Mahomes released the ball, either something great or something terrible was about to happen.

Completely agree. But physically, they're extremely similar. But of course, that's not the whole picture.

Who wouldn't want a guy like Cutler who's charismatic and protects the football?
I will kill you if you cut me at the knees. You will drink with me when invited and stay til I say so. We only listen to American Music. I make men nervous with just my presence. I expect an apology if you hold. I throw linemen at QB's. Believe the Lore!

He's rather have the guy who wasn't a captain, regressed in his second season and has rumors of being uncoachable... cause he's 6'4" 233...

Here's why I like him.
He can make every throw and with ease.
He can improvise and can elude a rush.
He looks accurate granted haven't seen every throw.
He seems like a leader from everything I've read.
His father was a pro for 10+ years he knows what will be asked and what will happen if don't prepare, so I don't think he'll consider himself set like a Manziel.

This is what don't like
System he came out of.
Mechanics need improvement.
Will he trust his arm to much ala Cutler

Add to the positives... He is football intelligent in the heat of battle. And change one of his negatives... Mechanics need a LOT of improvement. He might require the most mechanical work of all QBs drafted this year.

See this is where I completely disagree. His mechanics aren't bad, they are unorthodox for sure, but if his mechanics were bad his throws wouldn't be so accurate. He needs to work his drops and make them more consistent, this will come with reps but he doesn't need to be fixed. If a coach tries to "fix" his mechanics I think it will break what makes him special. I really think he's the type of kid you take, let him learn the playbook and terminology and when he feels confident in his understanding, he is on the field and I think he'll spend the next 10-12 years out there being exciting and becoming a superstar.
