I did one on Fanspeak just for the heck of it. Weird that Scarbrough was available in the 5th round, thought that was too good to pass up even though we have Howard and Cohen.

I went five rounds because I generally figure most NFL drafts are about 150-160 picks of football players and a hundred or so lottery tickets that might or might not amount to something.

1: R1P7
DL CHRISTIAN WILKINS
CLEMSON

2: R2P7
CB/DB TONY BROWN
ALABAMA

3: R4P7
EDGE ADE ARUNA
TULANE

4: R4P8
OT CASEY TUCKER
STANFORD

5: R5P7
WR DEEBO SAMUEL
SOUTH CAROLINA

Incidentally, I expect Aruna to test extremely well athletically, so I'll be astonished if he makes it to Day 3. But in this context, I snapped him up.

It feels depressing to be using the fanspeak draft simulator this early but with the prolonged firing of Fox I have to amuse myself somehow!!
I used the difficult setting, the fanspeak big board and the computer set to random for it's draft board.
I took a trade for the no 6 pick fro the cheese heads getting a R1 pick 18, R2 pick 18 ,R3 pick 18 & R3 pick 38!!
I traded the R3 pick 38 to the Eagles and got R4 pick 30 and R4 pick 32.
Here is who I picked and I tried to stay best player available for the first four picks ;

18: R1P18
OT MIKE MCGLINCHEY
NOTRE DAME
38: R2P6
CB JOSH JACKSON
IOWA
50: R2P18

I finally did one.

12/17
Fanspeak/Fanspeak
no trades
as always, skipped any overly unrealistic options (eg, Josh Allen available in R4 - ???)

8: R1P8
OLB ARDEN KEY
LSU

McPhee's sorry ass is finally out of here

40: R2P8
WR EQUANIMEOUS ST. BROWN
NOTRE DAME

After looking over the most recent list of WRs who will be hitting the market, I'm pretty soured on trying to solve this with free agency. I'm very anti-R1 WR, though. The dropoff to R2 is pretty small, I think.

110: R4P8
ILB JOSEY JEWELL
IOWA

I've got one of the 3 midround picks slated for ILB.
(It's really crazy the lack of consensus on ILBs - one site will have a guy on Day 2, another will have him so low, he'd be lucky to get an UDFA camp invite. Rankings have nearly 0 correlation.)

115: R4P13
WR PARRIS CAMPBELL
OHIO STATE

Another midrounder is slated as a luxury pick. Here I went hard at fixing WR.

147: R5P8
QB LUKE FALK
WASHINGTON STATE

And the 3rd midrounder probably going to a developmental QB

186: R6P8
K DANIEL CARLSON
AUBURN

Bradley Chubb will not fall to us on draft day and if he does, it's a no-brainer. He can play 34 OLB and pair up with Floyd to be a formidable 1-2 combination for years to come.

I loaded up on big-play WR's with speed in R2 and R4 with Kirk and Miller. Our offense needs some speed and youth. Having Cohen as the only dangerous weapon that can take it to the house is problematic because he's a 5'6 RB.

Ferrell won't be there that late but he's an interesting talent and can play as a 34 DE with his size and length IMO. Might have to bulk up and put on like 10-15 pounds though.

Reed is a pure ball hawk and good athlete for a R5 value. Could add depth and be an eventual starter IMO since Fuller is most likely leaving.

Fundamentally similar to the last.
Without any trades (maybe I'll renew the advanced version later), I can't see myself making any different position choices for R1, R2, or R6 right now. Maybe bowls and the official declarations will make a difference.

Doubled up on big play WRs again, and added in a nice TE target, too

A lot of mocks I've seen have not had Chubb on the board when its our turn. If he's there though, we need to take that guy and run as I think he'd be BPA at that time. Our defensive scheme is kinda up in the air for next year with the presumed head coaching change. In a 4-3 he's a DE, in a 3-4 he's a 5T or OLB. I put him at OLB with Floyd on the other side in a 3-4 and go get the QB.

What's better strategically in that scenario? Do you line up Floyd and Chubb on the same side; Chubb as either a 5T or DE; then Floyd as an OLB or do you line them up on different sides?

I would imagine Ridley would be at or near BPA at round 2 so that makes sense.

I'm not sure about taking a TE because I really like Shaheen and feel that we can compliment him with a veteran and a developmental.

Campbell is supposed to be FAST. I don't like short receivers. He's 6'0 or 6'1 depending on what web site you look at. He could also be a KR, but we have Cohen for that. I like the pick in the sense that he's our speed guy, but not expected or hoped to be our #1. That's the Ridley pick or an FA.

The OT and K on day two makes total sense because those are needs.

Took Landry - my top edge rusher at 8. I had Nelson and Edmunds available and I feel as if Landry is a better all around 34 Edge Rusher than Edmunds will be. I see Edmunds as a Benardrick McKinney type - solely an ILB.

Then with the next 2 picks I doubled up on BPA at WR. Kirk and Miller give Nagy and Trubisky some speed and playmaking ability that this offense sorely lacks.

I also liked Meeks as a CB in the 4th - good value pick there. Finished up with Parker (Cohen's ex teammate) at OT, Griffin in the 6th is a feel good story, kid plays his ass off with one hand - and then in the 7th a fresh leg to compete against whoever is the veteran on the roster.

At this point, Arden Key will not be a day 1 pick and can only hope to go in the 2nd. The guy has serious character concerns, but more importantly, he's not very good at football.

That's one of those guys then that if drops big time and is sitting there in round 4 and we have two picks then take him. Put him in Fangio's scheme, maybe he has a chip on his shoulder for being taken so late and see if he works out. Not having a 3rd round pick will hurt us here, but we may get lucky.

NFL Mock-Random-Difficult

I did a good bit of wheeling and dealing in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th round as I think there are a lot of depth pieces to be had in the mid rounds of this draft!!

ROUND: 3 PICK: 38
TRADE PARTNER:
SEATTLE SEAHAWKS

RECEIVED:
ROUND: 4 PICK: 20
ROUND: 5 PICK: 31

Here is what I got for those trades :

8: R1P8
G QUENTON NELSON

54: R2P22
LB HAROLD LANDRY
BOSTON COLLEGE
83: R3P19
WR DJ CHARK

I concentrated on trying to get starters for the first three picks then went after solid depth/developmental players after that!
I tried to stay away from unrealistics players falling like Brian O'Neill dropping to the end of the 4th round!

I don't remember the selection, but I figured it was a realistic trade for them to make.

For positions - doubling on CB was just circumstance. It's not my biggest priority.
But the only ones I want but didn't hit were OT and E.
OT, I just don't care for this class much. Don't want to burn a pick to get slightly better. Last year had a couple late risers, though. Maybe I'll warm up to someone eventually.
E, I've just written off for 2018. More needs than picks and we'll have to make do with 2 studs and 1 whatever.

Custom board (modeled largely on draftanalyst.com's site), difficult setting with random other boards.

TRADE PARTNER:
BUFFALO BILLS
SENT:
ROUND: 1 PICK: 8

RECEIVED:
ROUND: 1 PICK: 22
ROUND: 2 PICK: 21
ROUND: 2 PICK: 24

2 - 39: MARTINAS RANKIN, OT, MISSISSIPPI ST
2 - 53: JOSEY JEWELL, LB, IOWA

TRADE PARTNER:
NEW ORLEANS SAINTS
SENT:
ROUND: 2 PICK: 24

RECEIVED:
ROUND: 3 PICK: 27
ROUND: 4 PICK: 27
ROUND: 5 PICK: 27
This was a one-sided deal, but I really didn't like many choices at this point in this draft.

3 - 91: TIM SETTLE, DL, VIRGINIA TECH
I'm not sure how I feel about landing Settle — barring some surprise measurements, he's likely a NT and drafting him would probably mean losing Eddie Goldman.
4 - 107: KAMERON KELLY, CB/S, SAN DIEGO ST
4 - 117: JAYLEN SAMUELS, RB, NORTH CAROLINA ST
4 - 129: SCOTT QUESSENBERRY, C/G, UCLA
5 - 147: MICHAEL DICKSON, P, TEXAS
5 - 166: KOREY ROBERTSON, WR, S MISSISSIPPI
Overall, I was unhappy with where most of the receivers went, but landing Robertson was a nice consolation prize.
6 - 184: LEVI WALLACE, CB, ALABAMA
7 - 224: SHAQUEM GRIFFIN, LB, C FLORIDA

39: R2P7
G WILL HERNANDEZ

105: R4P5
WR ANTHONY MILLER
MEMPHIS

115: R4P15
CB TARVARUS MCFADDEN

181: R6P7
DL KAHLIL MCKENZIE

Inexplicably, Chubb fell to 8 - and it was the easiest decision I've made in any mock draft simulator. Not sure how the difficulty was set to Hard and Chubb falls to 8? Seems unrealistic, but hey I'll take it!
