imagine if we were sitting here with the 11th pick needing to take a qb right now.

When it was first reported, the #6 pick wasn’t listed as being part of the trade. It was the Jets 2nd and 3rd and their 2019 2nd round pick.malk wrote:For indy?wab wrote:Just an awful deal for Indy.

I don't think this increases the odds of Chubb being there at 8. Indy is still there at 6.
From my perspective I keep thinking more and more that we take Davenport and give Fangio a project.

I can delude myself into having Chubb fall to us, if all four quarterbacks go, Barkley falls to Indy (they have no running backs), Tampa just signed Curry so they may go for Minkah instead...The Marshall Plan wrote:I don't think this increases the odds of Chubb being there at 8. But it’s all just some crazy dream. Not going to happen.

i always thought nelson was a better guess than chubb anyway, if only from an extreme course correcting standpoint. i'd guess chris ballard is going to do everything he can to try and protect andrew luck this year.wab wrote:The article has been updated. If I had to guess, the Colts are targeting Nelson.

I could see the top 8 going like this (barring any other trades of course):
1. Browns - Sam Darnold
2. Giants - Saquon Barkley
3. Jets - Josh Allen
4. Browns - Bradley Chubb
5. Broncos - Josh Rosen
6. Colts - Quenton Nelson
7. Bucs - Minkah Fitzpatrick
8. Bears - Tremaine Edmunds
There are so many possibilities. Heck, the Browns may not take a QB #1 overall - no one really knows. But my guess is that they will because of the Jets trading up to 3 and also the Bills lurking in the background. It forces the Browns to use the 1st pick on a QB. I also think the Giants are a wild card to take a QB. Their GM Gettleman could be trying to salvage one more year out of Eli and build around him - or he could say F it, wipe the slate clean and get a young QB now to build around. It'll be interesting to see how it all shakes out - this could be one of the most entertaining top 10's in a while.

I don't think the Browns take a QB #1 either. Barkley will not be there at 4 if they pass on him at 1. However there will be QBs on the board at 4 if they take Barkley at 1. I could also see them not taking a QB at all in the first round and letting Taylor be the guy next year.DaSuperfan wrote:I could see the top 8 going like this (barring any other trades of course):

If they Browns walk away with Barkley and Chubb at 1 and 4 that's an amazing draft. I know the positions don't line up, but could Joe Thomas' retiring make them take Nelson at 4?

It feels incredibly delusional to me right now to think that picks 1-3 are not all going to be QB's. If the Giants dont take a QB (ESPECIALLY after the browns pass on taking a QB), someone is going to trade up into that spot. There are just too many teams that could potentially lunge at the chance to take whatever QB they want instead of picking through who's left. The Marshall Plan wrote:I don't think the Browns take a QB #1 either. So the Browns take a running back who will absolutely be there at 4, and potentially dont get their top two QB's because of this.

because someone could potentially trade into the 2 spot, and then the jets could say fuck it? or the jets could end up getting a better deal for the 2 spot? or a million other things could happen and it could fall through?crueltyabc wrote:Why wouldn’t the Colts wait until draft day?

Trade up deals are all about success rate of the QB you got. If you get a quality QB, it's generally worth it. I'm satisfied.
Mikefive's theory: The only time you KNOW that a sports team player, coach or management member is being 100% honest is when they're NOT reciting "the company line".

It's incredibly situational though. Pace moved up to guarantee no one else traded with the 49ers. The worst case scenario was we could take Mahomes or Watson and, as it turned out, the next QB went to KC after a trade up to 10.thunderspirit wrote:Can't be true.RustyTrubisky wrote:

Now does someone else make a trade because they had Trubisky higher than the other QBs? Sure, its possible, but whom?
It's also worth considering how much extra Trubisky is costing over Mahomes, it's $29m compared to $16m.

Too many Giants fans want them to get a boat load of picks and trade out of #2. Most of the local analysts I'm hearing are split between Nelson and Chubb for them if they stay, with Barkley being the dark horse if the Browns pass on him #1.
I will kill you if you cut me at the knees. You will drink with me when invited and stay til I say so. We only listen to American Music. I make men nervous with just my presence. I expect an apology if you hold. I throw linemen at QB's. Believe the Lore!

Barkley, IMO, is the win-now move for the Giants if they plan on sticking with Eli for a few more years. At the end of the day I kiiiiind of think Buffalo is going to bend over and take it in the keester to move up to #2.

And there are plenty of counter stories (several from sources I trust) that said there were other teams trying to trade up.Adipost wrote:This doesn’t take into account the fact that Ryan Pace didn’t need to trade up to draft Trubisky.

That's the way Pace tells it too... he got the impression from teams that wanted to trade with HIM that if he said no they'd go over his head and consider something with SF at #2. He didn't want to risk losing out on his guy. I didn't like what he paid at the time, but now that it's all said and done I'm glad to have our wagon hitched to MT10.thunderspirit wrote:And there are plenty of counter stories (several from sources I trust) that said there were other teams trying to trade up.Adipost wrote:This doesn’t take into account the fact that Ryan Pace didn’t need to trade up to draft Trubisky.

They have to take a QB. Misplaced loyalty to an average QB (HoF my hairy ginger arse!*) is a bad, bad idea.G08 wrote:Barkley, IMO, is the win-now move for the Giants if they plan on sticking with Eli for a few more years. I'd trade down if offered loads but they can't take Barkley.

As bad as the giants were last year, I don’t see how they can expect to turn it around in one or two off seasons. I see Eli as a stopgap that placates the fans during a rebuild.

If Nelson is Pace's guy (and I think he is) how does this shake out. I see a lot of mocks that have the Colts taking Nelson at #6. Its possible that Pace could swap our second round pick for Indy's third round, and that would be a bit more value than we would need to swap the 8th for the 6th. Would you do that?

Fair point. Then right now, it looks like we get Edmunds. Unless you think that OL is a definite need. Would you take McGlinchey, given a) our RT sucks, and b) Heistand is now our OL coach?wab wrote:I love Nelson, like a lot...but I'm not trading up for a guard. You could start Leno/Whitehair/Kush/Long/McGlinchey.
