Level of competition worries me a bunch, and with Edmunds I love the versatility he affords Fangio and this defense (I don't believe Davenport can do that). Vic can drop him into coverage and blitz a corner, he can put him on a RB and blitz an inside linebacker, etc. I think with Aaron Rodgers still in this division, we need to find a way to fuck with him and coverages. 6'5" 253 lbs dudes with 34.5" arms that run 4.54 are rare. He needs work, it's purely projection, but I strongly feel that if anyone can get the most out of this kid, it's Vic Fangio.

Plus with Floyd having similar athletic traits, you can ostensibly use him in that "joker" role defensively since he already knows the system. This way you can tell Edmunds to just rush the passer and work on learning the nuances of the defense as the season progresses.

It'll take him time to get a feel for moves, counter-moves etc but there is nothing wrong with using him like Aldon Smith (granted Aldon Smith rushed a ton in college, but much to my surprise it seemed like a lot of his success came from the 3-technique rather than outside). Hand usage, leverage, and winning with speed should be his focus right now.

If Nelson is gone, Edmunds is my guy. But I still want to figure out a way to get Rolland-Jones on the roster.

I don't "love" anyone this year like I did in years past. When pick 8 comes around and Nelson is there, I'm good with it. If it's Edmunds, great. Davenport, Fitzpatrick, Ward are all fine with me.

I'm even good with Landry if we trade back to 11 or 12.

I like Edmunds a lot.
I like Davenport a lot too.

Edmunds reminds me some of Anthony Barr, but honestly I kind of see a millionaire's De'Vondre Campbell in him.
Davenport reminds me a little of on-the-field Aldon Smith. Not nearly as strong, but the same kind of speed-to-power conversion.

None of these are my favorite. I have not drunk the "we fixed the receiver problem" kool-aid. I do think, post combine, a pick at number 8 for a WR would be a reach. I do think we should grab one in the 2nd. I'll go for my favorite.

1. Q. Nelson
2. DJ Moore

So, what WR goes then? And even after cutting someone, Moore isn't going to be higher than 5 on the depth chart.

Furthermore, I really like Moore; but there's every reason to think he will be the first WR off the board, and that's likely to happen in Round One.

I agree there is a very good chance Moore is gone by the second. I have also heard a few say, they are the minority, but could be right, that Moore could be the first WR taken.

We had the worse WR in the league last year. If you think we went into free agency and fixed the WR corps so much that Moore would be our 5th receiver I don't know how to respond.

This is an interesting question. For me, I really am not sold on Carter, but I love Wynn as a move OG who I think will fit perfectly with what Nagy/Helfrich want to do. The more I looked at it, I don't think Wynn gets to 39. And while I do value Nelson over Edmunds, I'm pretty confident that Edmunds will ultimately be a stud, even if it may not be as an edge guy. So I went Edmunds/Wynn.

The Bears have like the the third most dollars tied up in their WR's
The Bears top receiving targets next year are going to be Robinson, Gabriel, and Burton
The Bears are going to give White every chance to succeed
The Bears WR depth chart is Robinson, Gabriel, Meredith, White, Bellamy...so Moore would be ahead of Bellamy
The Bears are only allowed to use one football

In staleystarch's defense, if DJ Moore inexplicably slid to #37, I would probably draft him as I think he's a top-15 talent in this draft. I'd figure out the depth chart later.

But as much as I like Moore, I cannot possibly justify taking him at #8, or even after a trade-down on Day 1.

I'll go out on a limb and say we do not draft a WR with our first 3 picks. Looking at the clouds of talent as they're stacked in my head, I think the first round will be an EDGE rusher (unless someone like Barkley/Nelson is there) and the second round will be an interior lineman. At pick #39 I'm of the opinion we should have first round OL talent available when it's our turn to pick (*cough* Billy Price *cough*).

Round 4 and beyond I would imagine we take a developmental OT, an ILB and a DL.

I'm not sure Price or Daniels get out of the first round. We may be in trouble in round 2 value wise for interior OL if that happens.

Yeah, I see a bunch of linemen coming off the board in the bottom half of round 1. If somehow the Bears don't land Nelson they'd be better off waiting to draft a couple OL with their 4th round picks. It also would hurt my feelings to see them trade back in the second and pick up a 3rd.

Price partially tore his pec at the Combine, I'm hoping that knocks him down a bit. Even if he does go earlier than our pick, we should still have options (I wouldn't be surprised if we drafted an OT with the intention of kicking him inside to OG):

Isaiah Wynn
Austin Corbett
Braden Smith
Frank Ragnow

etc

If there's a run on interior OL then great, see what positional value falls into your lap and go from there. We need help and depth at a handful of positions.

I don't know what it is, but I have this feeling that if they don't get Nelson, they aren't going to worry too much about the interior OL and just let Heistand see what he can do with the guys they have, save for maybe a later round pick.

Interior OL, CB, DL, trade down... tons of options for Mr. Pace.

I would not take Moore or any WR at #8 either. Btw, the projected 5 wrs for the 2018 Bears had a total of 62 catches in 2017. I don't think I'm the one that needs a defense. :-)

I don't see how Chubb will be available at 8 so I didn't bother going with it. Nelson I could see a few scenarios in which he's available there (mostly tied to how teams value guards high in the draft).
If Indy decides they need to protect Luck with Nelson (and 4 QB's go before us), Chubb could fall in our laps.

Tampa just picked up JPP, so they may want to address terrible secondary (Ward or Minkah).
