Betts has some nice hands/feet. Pro translation, not sure, but impressive tape.

I usually take these UDFA signings with a grain of salt, but Raymond could be starting for the Bears in two years. I thought he’d go in R2 or 3.

I like Alex Bars a ton as well if his knee is healing up nicely.

For sure, he's got his issues but he just looks so damned fluid to me in the passing game. He's everything that Adam Shaheen wishes he was in that facet of the game.

it's always hard when you root for that fringe guy hoping his glimmer turns into an explosion.

I think Wims and Toliver still have a chance to stick. Nall is probably a goner.

One thing I like about Raymond’s tape is he’s slippery. Kind of greases through chips. Huge trait for a TE, but as always the NFL is a different beast.

For real. I love pass rushers that collapse toward a QB, like they’re being sucked into orbit. Causes chaos.

Wish we would start looking for a back up QB. Not sold on Chase and Tyler.

Really was hoping for Jackson here from Buffalo.
Like some of these signings but is gonna be hard for them to make this loaded squad.

Good luck to these kids.

I really think Wims should be a move TE. He is listed at 220 but at the end of the the year he looked jacked. I bet he was closer to 240.

This Dax kid could easily make this team. I really liked him and thought the Bears could draft him.

Hall while I think should have been drafted could use some PS time to develop the route tree. He sure can run though.

Lowery Bars and Tucker easily have a shot in this league. Anyone who starts for 3 years at an Ohio or ND generally sticks in the league a few years.

I'm a total sucker for the small school success stories, and as a consequence know far more than I should about such guys each draft.

Doyin Jibowu is nearly as intriguing to me as Stephen Denmark. Both are long shots to be anything beyond roster filler, of course.

A little more info on some of the guys we signed:

Bears signed Ohio OT Joe Lowery.
Lowery (6’6/300) was a three-year starter at left tackle for the Bobcats, earning first-team All-MAC as a redshirt senior in 2019 and PFF College’s highest run-blocking grade in the country. Lowery’s stock took a hit when he managed eighth-percentile SPARQ results at the Combine. Nevertheless, Lowery’s game tape is dominant enough to warrant a look at guard or right tackle. He certainly won’t be staying on the blind side in the pros.

Bears signed Utah State TE Dax Raymond.
Raymond (6’5/255) turned pro as a redshirt junior after making 22 starts for the Aggies, earning honorable mention All-Mountain West in each of his final two seasons and leaving school with a career 72/873/3 (12.1 YPC) receiving line. Raymond tested as just a 21st-percentile athlete at the Combine, running 4.73 with a 32-inch vertical. Raymond’s tape reveals a possession pass catcher who struggles to secure the ball above his head and was largely a non-factor as both a run and pass blocker. He’s a long shot to become more than a No. 2 tight end.

Apr 28, 2019, 3:23 AM

Bears signed Missouri WR Emanuel Hall.
Hall (6’2/201) flashed dominant deep-threat ability in Drew Lock’s spread attack, logging a career 97/2,016/16 (20.8 YPR) receiving line and averaging 23.5 yards per catch over his final two seasons. Hall battled recurring hamstring and groin injuries as a junior and senior, however, and those issues almost certainly caused him to fall out of the draft. Healthy for the Combine, Hall tested as a near-100th-percentile SPARQ athlete with 4.39 speed and elite vertical (43 ½") and broad (11’9") jumps. Hall has the upside of a quality deep threat, but his injury history and inconsistent hands make him a boom-or-bust prospect.

So did Greg Gabriel. He was on the Score and mentioned him as a potential pick nearly every round.

Interesting deets on Mathieu Betts, who I think could push Fitts off the roster with a strong offseason.
If #Bears UDFA Mathieu Betts participated at the Combine, he would have ranked extremely well at EDGE:

Broad Jump: 9’9” (6th)
40-Yard Dash: 4.7s (4th)
Short Shuttle: 4.28s (4th)
3-Cone Drill: 6.77s (1st)

**3-Cone Drill is typically a great indicator of success as an EDGE.**

This dude looked electric in the video UOK posted. Curious to see him and really how strong he is at the POA. 3 down OLB or is he just a pass rush specialist?

I hate doing this kind of comparison, but... for perspective, these are Mack's combine numbers.

Broad Jump: 128in
40-Yard Dash: 4.65
Short Shuttle: 4.18
3-Cone Drill: 7.08

Both 6'3 250

Heard some things on Hall...

Mizzou was 7 and 0 when he played and 1 and 5 when he was limited or out.

His QB called him a safety blanket.

Inside the building at Mizzou there were rumblings that if he was banged up they felt he kind of took his sweet time coming back. I also heard some rumblings he may have an attitude problem but we can table that for right now.

Well, in fairness the kid did lose his dad in the middle of the season if I recall. I think that caused him to kinda fall apart a little. That reportedly led to him maybe not fighting through bumps and bruises and made him pretty standoff-ish about a lot of things (including the injuries).

AT least he came back from the injury instead of packing it in like some college players did, cough...Bosa....cough.

You can say Bosa had more to lose, sure, but Hall came back.

I've read some of that too. Track mentality, body needs to be 100% to play, no return experience. He's never played a full season in the SEC, hard to see that changing in the NFL.

Mom was a track star at Tennessee. Had tragedy last year too, if I recall, with his dad passing.

His best case scenario is Willie Gault, except not as the #18 pick in the 1983 draft. You can't teach his speed.

I went back and re-watched that highlight video... I understand he's whipping Canadian bums but this dude has some juice to his game. He can bend the edge, he's quick, I love his spin move, he knows to attack the football when he's coming at the QB unseen... if he's 75% of what he showed in these clips I don't see how Kylie Fitts has a job come September.

Ideally iron sharpens iron and these two have a tooth-and-nail fight for the roster spot that leaves one of them a clear cut contributor. In a more realistic world they both amount to nothing.

I can't help but be excited about Betts, though. Then again I was momentarily drunk on Bednarski the backflipping place kicker before he was unceremoniously sent away, so what do I know?

I hope at least one of them sticks and becomes a good player. Nothing better than an UDFA underdog success story.

Alex Bars is participating in minicamp practices, so his knee must be doing better.

He's got the traits, can he stay healthy and take the next step is the question in my mind. Rooting for him!
