2020 NFL Draft

Thu May 09, 2019 1:52 pm

Next year the draft is in Las Vegas, a few of my buddies are going to make the trip to attend. Is anyone planning on going?

I went last year and it honestly wasn't really that fun. But I was surrounded by Cowboys fans.

Was it not fun just because it was all Cowboys fans? Or was it also other factors.

I have no desire to go to a draft event. I have watched with the same group of 5-6 friends every year since 1996. We have pizza and wings Thursday night; Go out for 1lb burgers Friday afternoon (though some of the group have dropped down to 3/4); Order in some kind of BBQ Friday night and leave on some time Saturday.

We have our annual draft contest. We usually have a hockey/golf/football video game tourney going on a 2nd TV all weekend long. We tend to stay up until ~4 am Thursday and Friday. And we have plenty of cold beer.
I will kill you if you cut me at the knees. You will drink with me when invited and stay til I say so. We only listen to American Music. I make men nervous with just my presence. I expect an apology if you hold. I throw linemen at QB's. Believe the Lore!

When the draft was held in Chicago, it was neat to see the area they set up, but during the actual event I had zero interest in going. YMMV.

I think it's the same reason I like to watch games at home instead of at a sports bar. I like to concentrate on what's happening, research some of the picks I didn't know much about after they were made etc. It was a fun environment for sure, but it made it difficult to focus on the actual draft.

Plus...Cowboys fans.

Yeah, that's kind of where I was coming from too. I build spreadsheets for the draft, have all my resources around me as picks are announced, and I couldn't do any of that at the draft event.

Fun. Just not my cup of tea, especially for something I geek out on as much as I do the NFL draft.

Which might as well be its own insult, amirite?

Attending one would seem fun but if you are one of the ones standing the whole time or not in good seats it would suck. Also during a year with no 1st round pick would suck as well.

Overall I agree with most that I like watching it at home.

Ive got a lot of anger to ration out over the next 4-5 months, and I'm sure as hell not going to dump it out recklessly here in freakin' August.
