Combine Comparison (Chase Claypool // Calvin Johnson)
6'4.25" // 6'5"
238 lbs // 239 lbs
9 7/8" hands // 9 3/4" hands
1.52 10 yard split // 1.55 10 yard split
4.42 40 yard dash // 4.40 40 yard dash

Sheesh.
Why Claypool isn't getting more love is beyond me. Dude was a top 10 WR in college football last year. I will say that he's not the most natural pass catcher...he kinda fights with the ball. It's like he's hauling in a contested catch even if he's wide open.

And he's no where near as smooth as Megatron was.

But, any other year, and he's a top 20 pick.

The thing on Claypool ... and I like him btw ... is he doesn't look as fast on the field as he tested. Maybe it's because I don't think Ian Book has very good anticipation nor a quick release, but I've watched enough of their games to recognize the separation that he gets doesn't look like 4.4 speed.

That said, I love the idea of using him as a swiss army knife tool - a little TE, a little outside WR, a little slot.

Apparently he was open a ton of times as well and the ball either didn't go his way or he was missed blatantly.

Might be a sleeper for us.

You know I'm a ND homer. Ian Book sucks. If the Irish had someone other than a Dollar Store Eric Crouch, Claypool would be in the conversation with Judy/Lamb/Ruggs

I sure do

Do you like him in a Tyreek Hill type role in this offense?

Adam Hoge is jumping on the Chase Claypool bandwagon

I saw that Megatron comparison a few weeks back. Early mocks had him starting around pick 29-31 (Tennessee, Green Bay, San Fran), and he was the guy I specifically was thinking when I mentioned that our 2 second rounders could get us up into the early 20's if there was a player worth moving up for. But he's lost some steam since the combine and I've seen him slip into the mid second round in many mocks, usually to Denver, Atlanta or Pitt.

I understand the need for speed argument for this offense looking at KC. But we need a QB who can consistently hit the deep ball accurately for speed to be relevant. But if Mitch wins the starting nod again, I'd rather have our 3 route runners working to get open and Claypool schemed open and winning 50-50 balls if our QB is I trouble and needs an outlet.
I will kill you if you cut me at the knees. You will drink with me when invited and stay til I say so. We only listen to American Music. I make men nervous with just my presence. I expect an apology if you hold. I throw linemen at QB's. Believe the Lore!

Yeah I'm smitten. I want him at #43

Here's a clip of him destroying dudes and kicking ass on special teams.

I knew I had to look at Claypool when Rich said he liked him....In all our years of talking draft, I don’t think I ever heard Rich say that about a ND prospect. Accept Kizer....he loved him! Jk

Both him and Pittman were clearly better than Mims at the Senior Bowl practices IMHO
