What risk was Jackson?
AFAIR he just had a simple fracture which prevented workouts and he slid way too far because of it.

I like the player, I think he will be very good for us, but I did feel there was some great value at Oline at that time. Still, good player.

99% of football injuries are back luck, not some genetic defect. The dude played without the labrum all year, so obivously it was not an issue.

Well, there's also stupidity, which may or may not be genetic. But in any case, there are injuries that cannot be completely corrected, and repeated injuries only make the matter worse.
Like Johnson, my first shoulder injury was in HS, but by the end of college I had learned to play thru it (tennis not football). But I'll never be able to throw a ball overhand again, ever.
I like the suggestion made elsewhere that the Bears put a shoulder expert on staff. That joint seems to be giving the team more problems in the last few years than knee, ankle, hip, or elbow.

He didn’t know it was torn. It wasn’t bothering him so he kept playing.

What a great bit of luck to have him fall. First round CB at 50? Wow.
The descriptions of him have me thinking of Peanut. I'm pretty excited about this, no offense to Kevin Tolliver who I kind of like.

I saw the Utes a few times but didn't watch intently... which is often the case, and why I don't form many opinions about most draft prospects. So other than seeing his name on a few lists I didn't know anything about him. But everything I'm reading either implies or says outright that JayJ is a pencil-in starter right now and already a polished pro and potential all star. I don't see how anyone would prefer a 2nd round backup OL over a potential probowl corner.
There were a few other players I was hoping Pace would grab at 50. But now that I'm understanding more about JayJ ... this is my favorite pick of the draft.
This Bear D ... holy crap are they going to be good.

Been reading up on him, watching clips and listening to podcasts... this kid is a gem if his health stays with him. Extremely intelligent, got a degree in business in 2.5 years while playing collegiate football, great feet and feel for the game and knows how to mix up press man and playing off. Great job baiting the QB as well and by all accounts speaks up in practice if a coaching point doesn't make sense while being a film junkie on top of it.
Hell of a fucking pick, I think this kid will be a good one for a long time. Still only 21 years old... I'll be stunned if he's not a starting corner this season opposite Kyle Fuller.
