So Trask falling is SO tempting. I kinda think if this is true he's fallen for reasons beyond his control.

But... given the direction the Bears are going (and I fully approve), I'm leaning towards re-signing Mitch (under $15MM only) and ARob (not much more than $17MM please) and then I'm all-in on Pitts. IF Trask really falls to the 2nd round and was still there (wouldn't happen), then grab him for sure.

Beyond that, OT (RT) is the priority. 3rd round QB to back up Mitch, or FA pickup (ahem... Mariota) and I'd LOVE Sermon in the 3rd. Flesh out with Ryan Pace core skill at finding mid-round and FA defensive gems.

Should be some quality OT talent for us in R1 if we so choose.

I wouldn't mind Trask in round 2 if the idea is for him to sit NO MATTER WHAT for at least one season.

Agreed. So G what do you think about these choices (I know it may depend upon the moves of the day, of course):

1. OT in round 1, Trask or BPA round 2
2. Pitts round 1, BPA OT round 2

The more I think about the current NFL, and the value that guys like Kelce, Kittle, Waller and such have to their teams... I can't think of a potentially more impactful position than a U TE like Pitts. As a huge threat, a safety valve, etc. If he drops past the Chargers and maybe one or two other teams, he's my guy. Multiple TE sets with both he and Kmet on the field along with the smurfs (Mooney, Miller, rookie)... I'm really liking how that projects.

I'd absolutely take Pitts, but I don't think he makes it out of the top 15.

I'm envisioning a scenario where The Bears bring back Mitch on a two year deal, lose Robinson, cut Massie, and give Ifedi a modest extension.

Bears would then go WR in R1, OT in R2, and QB in R3.

In 2022 they can be rid of Foles, the OT can take over for Leno and the QB can compete with Mitch and a new early round rookie.

But I can also see them giving Mitch a nice handshake and thanking him on the way out the door and reaching for Trask in R1.

Who is the QB in R3 though?

It depends on how this playoff game goes but I think Trask in R1 is too rich unless we trade down. Dude has his warts and needs to marinate.
