Here's what I see:

- a great deep ball
- great ball placement
- playing with and against the most elite talent in the NCAA
- not an overly strong arm
- poised in the pocket
- not a lot of college starts

I think his arm is okay. Nothing great, but okay.

A season and a half as a starter is problematic, but at least the majority of those starts have been against very good teams.

I see Jones as sort of a discount Matt Ryan. Someone recently said he reminds them of Chad Pennington, and I can see it.

Not supposed to be possessed of great mobility but probably didn't need it behine Alabama's OL.

20+ years old and still full of baby fat.

He won't have that elite OL if he comes to Chicago. The guy had 2 Heisman quality WRs (Smith and Waddle prior to injury), Heisman quality RB and a dominant OL. Not sure how that will translate to the NFL where the quality of skill player and OL will not be what he had at 'bama. I see him having growing pains in the NFL, not unlike #10. Maybe not as severe since he is more accurate, but I don't see him as a day 1 starter. This coming from a guy who has only seen him play 3-4 times.

Honestly there are not real negatives with the kid. No elite physical traits. I dont care if he has dad bod. People use a similar photo of Tom Brady.

His best trait is his vision and ability to read the field. Realistically as long as the arm is good enough, the mental is the deciding factor.

Here's a pessimistic take, but it's kinda where I'm at right now: I can see us drafting him at #20, Pace and Nagy touting him as "the franchise", and then we find out that his success at Alabama had more to do with the talent around him than his intrinsic ability.
Meanwhile, Mitch goes somewhere else and takes a big step forward in processing and reading under a new coaching staff. And Green Bay kicks sand in our faces again.

Would you trade #20 and #52, for #14 (Mac Jones) and #90?

Logic is that Pace would want to leapfrog New England who picks at #15.

Mac Jones, #83, #90 would be our only picks in the top 100.

I like him a hell of a lot more in round 2, or a trade down from 20.

Jones is apparently killing it at the Senior Bowl.

I'm going to dig more into him than I thought I would, also can't wait to see how he looks this Sat afternoon.

It's not saying much, but he's got more wiggle/movement skill to his game than Nick Foles.

I just look at his overall arm strength and athleticism and can't imagine this kid as a top 15 pick.

I kind of assumed he would look good, but the DJ praise was more then I thought he would get. Part of me thinks it's a big positive the other side thinks the other QB might be have looked really bad.

I think Jones has looked the best out of all of them, but Mond and Newman have apparently looked pretty good too.

Book has been the best out of the National team. Ehlinger has been up and down and Franks has reportedly looked terrible.

I really wish Trask hadn't bowed out.

Newman is intriguing... had some ugly INTs yesterday though.

@wab In a selfish sense I'm kind of glad we did, I think he's a day 2 prospect now based on limited tape and bowing out of this.

I think the Bears would still probably have to trade up in R2 to get him.

I think he is JAG. But had the benefit of playing with SO MUCH talent he was successful.

I just don't see us making a move for him at #20. He isn't going to set the NFL on fire day one and Nagy / Pace have to win. The first pick in a WR or OT unless they trade back. Then MAYBE they look to take him or Trask.

His ball placement (phrasing) is NFL quality. He's got enough size. David Carr without the David Carr arm?

It's not a perfect comparison (most aren't), but I'm starting to think he's Sam Bradford Lite. Bradford didn't throw to the same level of offensive talent Jones had, so I'm inclined to think Jones isn't at Bradford's level. But there are other aspects (where he puts the pass for that offensive talent and the accuracy he shows) that are similar.

Eh, body composition isn't overly important for a QB. I mean Blake Bortles was built like a brick shithouse when he entered the draft and Russell Wilson kind of had a dad-bod.

You guys should have seen some of the QB bodies back in the '60s, he'd fit right in. I didn't see him scrambling evading a rush a lot, maybe he didn't have to with Alabama's OL. I saw him make some good long throws, he led his guy like Mitch doesn't seem able to. His accuracy is very good also hitting guys in seams in coverage. Like all QBs coming out of college, he didn't call plays so I'm not sure how he is at reading defenses. Worth it at 20? I think he's borderline there but QBs tend to be overdrafted.

He's not going to crack off a 30 yard run, but he can move well enough in the pocket. I think he goes somewhere between 15-25. Accuracy, ball placement, field vision... those are the things that will get him drafted.

Having said that, I'd still rather push for an above average veteran over drafting Jones/Trask.

I concur if they can get one whose a FA and doesn't need draft picks to obtain. Possibly if they can get one in a trade giving up a lower pick.

While I'd prefer the Bears target a lower cost vet like Winston, or try and throw money they don't have at Dak...I'm to the point where I'd be fine with them giving up whatever they need to give up to get the QB position right.

Carr is at the top of my list.

From a skillset I think he's more of a day two pick, but QBs always get elevated.

I don't know... I wouldn't love it but if he's there at 20 it would be hard to not pull the trigger.
