There's things to like. But super raw and decision making is really questionable. His lack of starts shows. Long term project. Let someone else take him before R3 if they want him.
Mikefive's theory: The only time you KNOW that a sports team player, coach or management member is being 100% honest is when they're NOT reciting "the company line".

I don't know if I'd call him raw. He seems to read defenses well, knows where he wants to go with the ball and throws with exceptional anticipation. Terrific mechanics as well. However, there certainly is some rust there.
I think you sit him for all of 2021, let him work on learning what he can and cannot get away with while running the scout team. And then in 2022, if you think he's ready, unleash the kid.

I just have a hard time equating him with Mond, who has much more college experience and played in several big games. I just saw a mock in which the Bears traded back in the 1st and took Mills. C'mon, man, that would be insanity.

Not in the first, but if they could trade back in the 2nd or up to early 3rd to get him it would be good. He either has the processing power or he doesn't. He was a top prospect for a reason. I agree he could have rust and need to just plain play more. With all those tools if he can be gotten with the equivalent of a high 3rd you have to take that chance. Coach him up for a year and then let him play. Prepare to be disappointed and get a Matt Barkley. But cross your fingers and hope you do get a Palmer or heck even a young Dalton.

No question that Mills throws a nice, soft, catchable ball on most occasions. I actually like that. He sees the throw and adjust accordingly. He has a great loft on his deep ball that Trubs would never be able to get. But when he has to, he rifles it. Here's a good clip showing the assortment of his throws.G08 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 05, 2021 9:16 amHe throws with so much touch that I personally wish I could see him fire 15-20 yard outs from the opposite hash with velocity, just to see what he's got in that arm of his.wulfy wrote: ↑Mon Apr 05, 2021 9:11 am The UCLA game was Mills equivalent of Mitch's Sun Bowl and will be cited by whoever drafts him.
I like Mills a lot ... not more than any of the Top 5, but in my mind there are just as many questions about Trey Lance as there are with Davis Mills. I've read a few places that Mills has a "passable"/"adequate" arm .... I fundamentally disagree with that - he has a very good arm.
I'd be happy with Mills in the Second.
In the first he drills it. The second is very similar to a throw that Mac Jones did during Senior Bowl practice that everybody on Twitter raved about. The third he takes a little off. The fourth he lofts at the goal line to allow his receiver to use his height advantage. Going on he has a couple of rips in the middle of the field, and an out that goes incomplete. After that, he has swing that he throws with some muster. In fact, if you want to see his velocity, check out his throws on wide swings and WR screens. He gets the ball out there in a hurry.

Yeah, he has those. His worst was his first game against Colorado this year where he only completed 55% of his passes. The rust showed. But he settled down and the completion percentage in his last four games this year was: 75, 66.7, 73.3, and 68.1.
He's a guy who's definitely a work in progress, but he's also a guy who I think if he went back for another year, would have been a Top 5 pick in next year's draft. If we take him, he needs to sit on the bench for an entire year at least.

Agreed. Whomever we draft, I don't want to see them be forced to play due to injury or performance. Maybe throw them in there week 18 if we've made the playoffs.Yogi da Bear wrote: ↑Sun Apr 11, 2021 10:38 pm Yeah, he has those. crueltyabc wrote: ↑Mon Apr 05, 2021 12:01 pm I think my issue with him is that he looks like a guy demo'ing drills at a QB camp. It's the opposite of what you see from Lance, who looks like nobody has ever taught him what to do with his feet. Mills looks very "perfect" doing everything and that makes it look so vanilla. It's a weird critique but like... the greats in any world know when to go off script, and you can see their personality a little bit in their improvisation and "imperfection". Nagy has "Be You" on his playsheet but then he wants a football robot?
Where is there room for improvement, btw, if he already does everything right and he doesn't really dominate?

I couldn’t stop staring at that leg wrap....
He checks so many boxes...Kind of remind me of Wentz. Man..he’s careless with the ball.
I think he’s worth a mid round pick...nothing before the 3rd.
Watching him compared to the other second tier guys...I like him more then Mond but not as much as Trask.
I feel like Nagy has a hard on for Trask...

I kinda feel like, whatever decision Pace makes will be the wrong decision. Right now, I am in on a possible move up if Fields drops and we don't totally mortgage the future or Mills/Mond in the late first/early second. I am not a Trask fan at all so my guess is that is who we take at #20.

I think in order for Pace to "undo" his Trubisky draft pick, he's going to take someone with extensive college tape (Mond) or someone that he knows can read defenses/run a pro-style offense (Mills).
I can see either of those two being targets for us.

being in SW AZ I get to see PAC12 a lot.. Mills always looked "OK" and maybe "serviceable". But some of those throws against ND were not good placement.
Day 2 for me,,but not excited..yeah..Daniel Jones mini..but then who knows until the war starts..

I see Mills as a Day 2 pick with developmental upside, given his high-end arm talent and footwork inside the pocket. A former five-star recruit, Mills can deliver the ball with anticipation on second- and third-level throws, which is a critical factor to producing in an NFL scheme.

If his knee checks out, do you roll the dice with pick 52 and just have him sit for all of next season?
Or do you trade down from 20 to a late first round pick and draft Mills/Mond?

Fair comp, but I think that Mills is a bit taller (allowing him to see over the line easier) with a bit more escapability. He's probably a bit smarter too.

I'm starting to get a little more worried about Davis Mill's knee. Watched a video from @DocFlynnNFL on the red flags about his knee .... it's not so much the two ACL tears, more so it's the potential cartilage damage to the knee that could really restrict his mobility going forward. The video is on the @The33rdTeamFB timeline.
Really hard to have a definitive position on the knee without having your doctors look at it themselves.
It's not soured me on Mills, but it makes me more cautious of the investment. I'm probably out on anything before the 52nd pick. And I might have put a toe into Camp Mond.

No more drafting guys because they're Hollywood's version of an NFL QB. Select a guy who's actually delivered in college and checks the boxes.
