Anyone have any insight into this guy?

Just came across this trash https://www.profootballnetwork.com/2021 ... ebruary/3/ that had us taking him in the second round.

The logic being that after the top 5 QBs where taken some team would overdraft and do something stupid. Sadly sounds like us.

Trask went in the 3rd AFTER our pick.

I actually like really do like Mills, but the 2nd round is wild. 5th through 7th maybe...

He's a ridiculous athlete, but hasn't played much at all.

Yeah, promising, but not much experience. He really needed at least one more year.

I have him boarded in R6 currently

Yeah, that's about right. One more year and he could've gotten up into that R2 range. Maybe he goes as high as R3 if the draft falls a certain way.

He's not Jackson or Mahomes but he can move and (even with a small sample size) is arguably one of the most accurate QB's in the draft.

He's more or less everything G08 wants in a QB, just with barely any experience.

I'm a fan, but it's such a small sample size. He's a tremendous roll of the dice.

As an admitted Mills-stan, I'd consider him with the Bears' Round 3 pick. Still probably too high. But if it all clicks for him, you've got Carson Palmer.

He can move quite a bit better than Palmer... but he's gonna take a while.

I don’t know about all these late round projections....Of not for Covid, I think it’s completely possible that this guy would have played himself into the 1st round. He’s got an amazing arm, accuracy looks good, he can manipulate the pocket while keeping eyes down field, and he’s MUCH more mobile then people give him credit for.

But the problem isn't just "we didn't see enough, so we don't know". The bigger problem is "he didn't get any experience and development time".

His whole college career he has fewer starts (11) and pass attempts (438) than 1-yr wonder Mitch Trubisky (14, 572).

Now, that said, you may be right that he goes somewhat sooner than projected - I won't be shocked if someone falls for him and he goes more like 3-5 - but that lack of experience is really limiting.

I'm not sure what the situation was at Stanford, but I think he was probably out of his mind for not choosing to return.

This guy? He looks a little old for a draft prospect. But then again MInshew looks older than Brady. :)

Watching highlights on Mills, I'm smitten. His footwork, his release, his ACCURACY. Holy crap, that dude drops dimes on straight lines. If we could get him in round 3, and spend a year behind Dalton, that would be a home run. He also goes to Stanford, which means he's not an idiot.

6'4" 212lbs (give him a year in an NFL strength program he'll be 230lbs).

The question is, do Pace and Nagy believe that they have time for a year long project?

Graduates this month from Stanford, actually. So yeah, not an idiot.

Watching his tape, he does some very important fundamental things that a lot of high draft pick QB's in the last couple of years haven't been able to figure out.

1. His foot work is outstanding.
2. He holds the ball nice and high with both hands.
3. His release is quick and fluid.
4. He climbs the pocket and steps into his throws with authority.

He's a project no doubt. I'm quite sure that the Bears aren't going to take a flyer on him. But mark my words, five years from now, that kid will be a good NFL QB.

Pro Day was today, by all accounts he crushed it.

Measured in at 6'3.75", 217 lbs, and ran an unofficial 4.58 dash.

I haven't dug into all his "tape" yet, but I certainly don't hate him. Wish he had a little more juice as an athlete and a little more on his fastball, but that's being greedy.

I'm assuming that no one from the Bears was there...

John DeFilippo stood directly behind him and at one point asked him to make a specific throw, which the kid nailed.
Daniel Jeremiah wrote:"He answered the bell. A lot of pressure on Davis Mills with a limited number of starts (11), no combine, no all-star game opportunities, this was his one shot, and I thought he crushed it," Jeremiah said. "He crushed it from the testing numbers that we got, and I thought it was a clean, really pure throwing session that he put on in the rain. The day could not have gone any better for Davis Mills."

Based on the glowing reviews from his pro day, he may have moved himself into the bottom half of R2.

I'm not convinced he falls that far.

He might need to be a early-to-mid Day 2

Yeah. This happens every year. Some QB has a good Pro Day and becomes the darling of the football pundits. Then some asshole GM takes him way too high. In 2017 it was...hmmm...who was it that year....I'm trying to remember.

Not to get into that, but he was almost unanimously considered the top prospect before his pro day.

Does anyone have a link to his Pro Day? Don't know if NFLN posted it yet...

Watch him run his 40-yard dash on his pro day. His lower body is built like a brick shit house. Kid is stout.

Yeah I think he’s the clear #6 after the 5 potential R1 guys.
