I'm glad to see that he was surprised and happy that the Bears took him.
I'm probably reading way too much into it but he seemed pretty flat when getting that call from Nagy. I know when I got a call from my first "real job" giving me an offer, I was ecstatic and couldn't stop smiling. Maybe it's just a personality thing.
Just moments later he performed some - I feel good dance moves.

I mean, going from potentially being in the top 5 to outside the top 10 cost him millions.

Look at these estimated contracts based on draft positioning (source):

I'd be pretty pissed off, too. Trey Lance is getting around $32M with a $20+M signing bonus. Fields is getting just above half that.

Oh, I'm sure he's pissed at that, @UOK. I certainly would be. Fields didn't do anything wrong except perform on the big stage consistently and he gets passed over by nine other teams for his efforts. (I'm sure RichH55 will, in short order, tell us all both what he did wrong AND how we're all idiots for being excited he's a Bear because he's Dwayne Haskins v2.0, so.)

That's in addition to, and I didn't know this happened, Fields getting prank called earlier in the draft. Somebody called him right around the 4th pick and got him all excited, and anytime his phone rang afterward he had to take with skepticism because his number got leaked, clearly.

I hate that somebody did it to him. And also I down low kinda like anything that increases the size of the chip on his shoulder. Cold, hard fire.

That is pretty shitty. I'm sure he wanted ATL to take him at #4 too.

That sucks. Should have just had a burner number for draft purposes and not given it out to anyone but the NFL.

Heard that one the other day... I think the kid still has some work to do but it sounds like he picks things up quickly.

I do like that Nagy is going to work with Coach Day and I sincerely hope we incorporate a ton of their offense into our system.

Pretty cool of him. I'm starting to understand that Foles is the mentor, not Dalton.

I hope he comes in with a chip on his shoulder. I hope he comes in with the motivation to bury every single QB that got taken before him. I want that in my quarterback.

I think so too, I think Dalton will be there more to share his experience via his 146 career starts.

"Only" 61 career starts for Foles.

Still, 207 career starts in that room for Fields to learn from is pretty sweet.

Yep - a giant, permanent chip. Ala Brady and Rodgers. Never stops burning in some guys.

I like this kid.

Seems pretty smart, confident and hardworking. With skill to go with it.

Really a business first feeling from him.

God I hope he is what the bears have been waiting all these years. Has he risen yet?

MT10 presser an endless flood of (same) words.

to block actual just one step too late but now another play

downfield blocking
1. 65Y
2. 60Y
3. 35Y

and running alongside 4. a mere 20Y

Even if he's a bust I still feel better about drafting him than I did trubs. I think what scarred me with trubisky was the trade up. That and his lack of experience killed it for me right from the start. With fields it feels like a good move for a quality player.
