The Floyd big nickel idea would be daring but I get it - what is Bullard doing playing RDE in our 4-2-5 package?? Has he ever played on the edge? Also just want to point out that our 4 man front is still huge in that package, and we'd have a 240 pound "safety".

I love this mad scientist shit. I hope we legit see some of it from Fangio. I'd also like to see a radar package with only Goldman and Bullard with hands on the ground.

I think for me right now this is my base front 7:

Washington or Ferguson/Goldman/Hicks

McPhee / Freeman / Trevathan / Houston

My sub would be:

Young/Houston/McPhee/Floyd

Freeman / Trevathan

Callahan is my nickel

I think sub is more

Houston , Ferguson/Sutton, McPhee/Bullard, Young
Trevathon , Floyd

I think the line will be very fluid. Hicks and Goldman I think will be generally 2 down players.

I guess we can all agree that Fangio has some crazy shit to figure out.

This would be my 3-4 base (but I don't know shit about football)

Hicks-Goldman-Bullard

McPhee-Trevathan-Freeman-Floyd

Porter-Amos-Some fucking safety we drafted-Fuller

What annoys me though is that we have one OLB that can't cover for shit and one that can. I would rather have two Floyds than two McPhees. I love the pick of Floyd because to me, he is the overall perfect 3-4 OLB. He can rush and he can cover.

Leonard Floyd signed today to a 4 year contract/optional 5th year.

Leonard Floyd got a 4-year contract worth $15,782,990 to go along with a signing bonus of $9,678,536. Contract includes a fifth-year option.

that 5th year option will benefit the Bears financially before they have to pony up the big bucks to re-sign the guy Fangio turned into a Pro Bowler :)

If Floyd is 80% the player McPhee is...I'll call that a win.

I do understand your're point about coverage. But What if Floyd is is OK in pass rush and OK in coverage? I'd rather have a player that is GREAT at one aspect then one that's OK in multiple aspects. That's where coaches come in...they find away to get the most out of what you are GREAT at and a way to hide what you're not very good at.

Now...if Floyd ends up GREAT at pass rush, playing the run, and coverage...BONUS!

Mingo got jerked around quite a bit in Cleveland man. I thought he was impressive as a rook.

I think I'm still uneasy about drafting a taller Christian Jones, a whiter Charles Leno, and less hurt Pernell McPhee with our first three picks.

The Cody Whitehair part of that, at least, is paranoia. Whitehair is a conventional, high-floor, "decent starter, maybe nothing special" type pick.

Now those other two guys might end up being complete busts so not gonna argue about them...

I think Whitehair is pretty safe as a LG, C at worst -- especially in the system we run.

Back on topic - Leonard Floyd

he may develop into something special, but at this point, I do not see why he was such a highly touted first rounder ... he is not a first round impact player ... closer to a 3rd round project player

he needs more beef if he is going to be playing at the line because he is being manhandled on blocks, and I have yet to see him use the speed he was touted for to blow past anyone trying to block him

not going to call him a bust this early in the process, but I do not think he warranted first round consideration

I hated the pick when we made it, but give Pace credit for a top 10 hit.

I love that he's gone on to have success somewhere else, and the Bears look like idiots for not knowing how to take advantage of his talent.

John Fox notoriously hated rookies, and I remember reading where his two years under Fox were rough on him. I think if Floyd would've been drafted in 2018 instead of 2016 things would have been much different for him with the Bears.

Do you think one of the reasons why Floyd sucked here is because of the Mack trade?

Can't realistically send both OLBs at the same time all the time?

Fangio loved his length in coverage. Hard to argue when we were the #1 defense in the NFL.
