Thought I'd get this going... I've been looking at RBs lately and I think TJ Yeldon could be a sneaky signing. 25 years old (going on 26) and he was drafted high in the second round to the Jaguars. Very good player in the passing game but I don't care much for how upright he runs the ball (coachable?).

Taller/heavier/faster than Kareem Hunt, but does he have the same vision and power? I don't necessarily think so.

What do you think this kid will garner on the open market? I can't imagine too much...

Kind of a meh possibility IMO, but who knows as that offense has been a dumpster fire for the most part. I wouldn't mind him as a backup but definitely not a starter.

With only 4 days to go before FA and 2 before the legal tampering period it looks like Pace is gonna let both Amos and Callahan test the waters which also means has has a Plan A and a Plan B to replace them if necessary. Hard to believe Amos will see top dollar but I'm not as sure about Callahan.

If Pace plan to move on from Howard his best bet is to find his immediate vet replacement in FA then draft another to replace Mizzell and Cunningham. To me Tevin Coleman may be Plan A here and Spencer Ware Plan B. Coleman will be looking for a lot more than we can probably get Ware for.

I'm looking for him adding an OLB/Edge guy as well or possibly bringing Lynch back at his price.

At this point I’d prefer to let Howard play out his contract while drafting his replacement this year.

I’m really hoping we bring back Amos, Roy Rob, Bellamy, and O’Donnel.

Also, with most of our starters returning, I don’t see us being major players in free agency. I expect Pace to make more moves after the first waive of free agents sign.

Finally got a chance to watch some film on Yeldon. Here’s what I came away with.

Pros:
He’s a very one cut north/south runner. His vision is very good and makes good reeds. He runs over his toes and has good hip sink and balance. He’s also very explosive and has good top end speed to break off big yardage. He can get dirty inside or use his speed to get outside. He can work out of the gun in 10 personnel or with the QB undercenter in 22. He has good hands in the receiving game but appears to be used mostly on designed screens or as a check downs. He’s doesn’t seem to have a problem splitting reps, although I believe he would get more of a work load in Chicago over what he got in Jacksonville.

Cons:
Like I said above, I couldn’t find much film with him being an option lined up out wide. Seems like Nagy wants a back that has that versatility. Again, I couldn’t find much film in pass protection, so for me that’s a big question mark. For how much size he has, he doesn’t seek out contact, he will run to the sideline instead of trying to get those few more yards. Here’s my biggest con, he’s lazy with his ball control. He uses his entire body to juke and the ball regularly gets away from his body. I saw on 3 plays where he actually swam the defender with the ball hand. After I noticed this I looked up his fumble stats, which were surprisingly not that bad(I would have lost that bet). In 51 games he had 5 fumbles and lost 3. His ball control could go either way with more touches but I feel this is an area he needs work on.

Overall I think his age, size, speed and versatile talent is just what Nagy is looking for. I say sign him.

Yeldon's an interesting option... Never really heard of him but watched some vids on him and he is an exciting back to watch. I like Sanders over him still but he has speed and is shifty enough he ran a 4.52 40 just a little slower than Sanders. He played for Alabama as well so he comes from a good coaching staff that produces good players for the NFL.

Ideally, I'd like the Bears to move up and get Sanders but depending on the price and other variables why not go after both? What's the price tag on Yeldon? Usually when Pace specifically says he's going to fix a position in the offseason he usually goes all out. He said RB and K are what he wants to fix this year.

Starting to see reports today that Amos might be one of the more highly valued safeties on the market.

And then there’s this...

Ok so i " think" as we stand now we have 15 million in cap space. this is before we ask Mack to restructure if we do that at all.

So our 2 big FA are Callahan and Amos.

What do we do in FA? Try to sign them?

Maybe promote McMannis and then sign Landon? Hope for someone in the draft?

Of course we will address RB at some point because clearly as good as Howard is he doesnt meet what standard Nagy wants.

So who and where would you like to see our FA money go to?

I personally think Amos is easier to replace with the deep FA market for safetys right now.

I cant count the times that Callahan made big plays and made me do the happy dance. A lot of times big plays were a pass defended or someone covered perfectly that kept the other team from getting a first down. Not everything shows up in the box score .

I wouldnt be upset with both Callahan and Amos back.
Nor would I be upset with Landon and Callahan.

I am a tiny bit curious how a straight up swap of Howard for McCoy could play out depending how we draft, however any conversation about Howard is dependant on who we pick up. He seems as good as gone

I do t think they trade Howard until they have a replacement. But that’s a double edged sword, because having a replacement on hand could drive the price for him down.

I think this is going to take some time to play out... teams are going to have to swing and miss in FA and then consider trading a day 3 pick to us for Howard. I don't know if I can see a way he's on our roster next season.

Bye bye Bellamy. I’d have let him walk at that price as well.

Hands like feet at the worst times, ran really good routes, made a few catches too but for that money, no way in hell.

At 29 I think he has shown all he will be, which is very replaceable.

Thank God... Don't understand how he stuck around this long after he messed around with another teammates girl. Never liked him and the Bears are better off without him. FN guy catches 1 out of 5 passes thrown at him and he celebrates like he's Michael Irving LOL.

The RB they picked up Davis... If they think he can replace Howard they should keep looking. Maybe Cunningham but a starter? Watched all the vids I could find on him and he looks like a little quicker Howard who can catch but not bulldoze like Howard could do. I was expecting a flashier type of RB that could become the face of the franchise (as much as a RB can be these days) as a replacement over Howrd not a downgrade. My guess is they go after one of the RBs in the draft that's stock dropped because of injury like Love or Hill... That makes the most sense right now IMHO.

Or they go after Sanders if they can get him at a reasonable price for trading up in the second... Pace does a good job of giving himself options... Davis could give Pace the confidence to move Howard to get the ammo he needs to move up without sacrificing any of this year's other draft picks...

Bellamy was an underrated depth guy and I think the Bears will miss him at first. But there will be another guy (Gentry?) that can do what he did.

He sure got a lot of playing time though... He was very quick and was a good gunner but a horrible WR and from everything I've seen on him a complete douche LOL.

Honestly, when he did catch a ball I had a hard time cheering.. I would cheer for the Bears but hated that it was him. I like everyone on this team right now and that's a good feeling.

EDIT:

Just saw they picked up CB Buster Skrine... Looks like Callahan isn't coming back.

Buster Skrine, who will sign a three-year, $16.5 million deal with the Bears, NFL Network reports.

Seems like from fans perspective he's not that good reading the comments on BleacherReport. I have no clue I've never heard of him. It looks like the best thing that might come of that pickup is they might get a pick next year for Calahan leaving.

Its been a pretty underwhelming start to FA. But I’m cool with that. I’m not a Skrine fan, but whatever. The Davis signing is decent as he replaced Cunningham/Mizzel.

The Bears don’t need to make splash moves. They need some depth and a slot corner.

Yeah I wasn't expecting much this year although you never know with Pace, he might grab a big name guy later on... We have a really solid team and pretty good depth overall. Upgrade a couple depth positions, create some competition at a few spots and start relying on the draft to build the team further.

I've got a feeling we're gonna sign Bell. This will be unreal.

Good for him. He's a good guy. I mean, he's probably not worth that much, but it's the Jets.

Amos signed with the Packers.

Fucker. I hope that Robinson and Howard run over his ass.

That's some BS... The Packers just got a gold mine of info and a decent player. Of all teams it had to be the Packers >.<

Eh. I don't know about that. Chuck Pagano will have his own terminology and systems in place, so anything of use would be marginal and anecdotal.

I really like him as a RB but not too sure on how much I trust him to not pull a Briggs every couple years and scream for more cash. Nagy likes 'we' guys and staying out a year for cash doesn't scream cumbia. Will be interesting to see how this pans out.

EDIT: Just saw the Bears cleared another 11 mil restructuring Macks deal so they now have some cash to make some moves. I feel a big name coming soon.

Even with Pace clearing that space - I really can't see Bell signing with the Bears. I think Pace opened up space to sign more than one player.

I was thinking the same thing. Amos was a good player for the bears and deserves to be paid, but he didn’t have to do this.

My wife works with a pukers fan, this is the text I sent my wife when I found out Amos signed with GB. “Amos just signed with the damn pukers. Fuck him and your whorish friend for liking a team that wants to smell like a cows ass. You can tell her I said that.”

Not sure why it is B.S., but I do hope he gets burned for a TD or 5 and whoever the Bears RB is trucks his ass. But good for him getting paid. He is dead to me.

I recognize the mercenary nature of modern pro sports ... not like when I was a kid when I knew i could root for my favorite players on my favorite team because they would be on my favorite team for some time

I don't hold it against the modern era guys having a more selfish agenda to get what they can when they can, team allegiance be damned ... but it does usually disappoint me when it happens

I'm guessing Pace has something in the works with all the $$$ shifting he has done to free up more wiggle room ... have no idea what he may be up to, but I expect it to be a positive move of some kind

Oh to go back to the days of "Right Of First Refusal." Those were the good ole days.

It is getting to be where high school sports is my go to anymore. I have problems watching college bball with all the 1 and dones and the coaches going here and there. High school is still pure sports for the most part.

Do not like Amos to the Packers, I liked that dude.
