To the city of Chicago, my beloved bears fans and NFL fans everywhere... The time has come to move on from playing the game of football. It has been an incredible journey for myself and my entire family and we can’t thank you enough for your continued support. I would love more than anything to step on Soldier Field one last time but I physically cannot give the game and our fans what they deserve. It’s difficult to find words to express my love and gratitude to every single person that has cheered my name, picked me up and stood strong with me throughout my time in this league. I am forever grateful.

To the McCaskey Family and the entire Bears organization, THANK YOU for changing my life! To my Family, teammates and coaches, I value nothing more than the friendships and love I have gained from this game! I love you all!

And to everyone else chasing a dream... never stop, never settle! • -Z

Strictly for personal reasons, I really wanted him to step on the field one more time. Even if it was only for one game/one play/one catch.

I hope he is a good position coach candidate for some reason.

This, the dream of the goal line TD was as tantalising as it was improbable.

Class act and I am so glad the Bears were classy to him. I would love to retain him in some type of coaching capacity. I loved reading about how he ended up breaking down film for Mitch. Good luck Zach!

I hate to see a career end that way. At least the Bears organization did right by Miller and showed themselves to be a class act the whole time.

You are close with him and his family, right? The guy is not hurting in the looks and articulation departments. He is going to get an analyst gig right away. He has a long broadcasting career ahead of him.

Even though he's retired now does he still get access to doctors? I'm surprised he did that if not fully recovered. Wish him well in his future endeavors, and hope he becomes a TE coach.

Glad to see this. Glad he is thinking with his head and not his heart. Good luck to him in the future. I can see him being some type of ambassador for the Bears.

Bears handled this in a great way from the day it happened and for that im proud.

I'll never forget being in Qualcomm stadium surrounded by chargers fans ( my boss included ) and Zach hauling in a game winning TD from Cutler towards the end. Lost my mind ( and my specs and sunglasses in the ensuing melee ).

Thanks 86.

I know he was really trying to come back, but I am happy he is stepping away ... I just had a very bad feeling if he ever took the field again

I wish him well

and I thank the Bears for handling his situation with an abundance of class

I think with Miller still hanging around and Spice never leaving, they have the makings of a pretty entertaining web-show.

I was at that game too. Had work meeting next day in Pasadena and decided I would scalp a ticket then drive up. Great time. Wish him the best and proud we handled it like we did.

This. And nothing but the best for Miller moving forward! I'm guessing he'll get an analyst gig somewhere.
Mikefive's theory: The only time you KNOW that a sports team player, coach or management member is being 100% honest is when they're NOT reciting "the company line".

Go back to leather helmets, NFL.
