One of the safest runners in this draft with a desirable combination of size, vision, toughness and creativity. He runs with impressive calm and instincts in the midst of interior mayhem, weaving and battering his way through traffic. Smart teams will recognize his ability to create yardage for himself with his eyes, footwork, contact balance and power. Should alleviate concerns about his lack of explosiveness. Montgomery has a pro-ready game and Day 2 (Rounds 2-3) value as a good NFL starter.

I don’t love him, but he’s a decent value in R3.

Mark Helfrich apparently loved him when he was announcing and covering Iowa State games.
The Iowa State head coach said Montgomery was the teams best WR from the slot.

He ran a 4.58 at his Pro Day. He doesn't have long speed but he's a good one wab, I promise.wab wrote:His 4.63 bothers me.

I don’t dislike the guy. He’s a more nimble Jordan Howard that can catch. Similar to Mike Davis.
I think I was just hoping for more of a home run hitter.

Maybe not a whole thread, but Singletary was my #2 back.Pagan wrote:This is going to be a woohoo pick for us!
This dude is a Spry J. Howard who has really good receiving skills.
Now... Who wants to start the Monty vs Singletary thread?

FWIW, the Bears have one of those on Tarik Cohen.wab wrote:I don’t dislike the guy. He’s a more nimble Jordan Howard that can catch. Similar to Mike Davis.

Montgomery should be a millionaire's Mike Davis.

He is a hammer like Howard that can catch the ball fluidly and be a threat on that part of the offense as wellthunderspirit wrote:FWIW, the Bears have one of those on Tarik Cohen.wab wrote:I don’t dislike the guy. He’s a more nimble Jordan Howard that can catch. Similar to Mike Davis.

Chicago Bears (via trade): RB David Montgomery, Iowa St. – GM Ryan Pace has never met an aggressive trade up he hasn’t liked. When he has conviction on a prospect, Pace does not wait – and Montgomery is worth vaulting up for. He was a top-50 player for us and should be a featured back, even in an offense with Tarik Cohen and Mike Davis. Montgomery has great elusiveness and balance and will be a fan favorite for his on- and off-field presence. A mature person and a very productive player. Grade: A-
