Via Mikefive:
From my perspective, needs to be a dominator. A tone setter. A guy who can intimidate the other team and make them change what they do. Physically dominating, but also smart. A guy who doesn't put up with any crap and can't stand losing. In my eyes, the best football player of all time, who combines all of these factors in a superior way is...

Dick Butkus, LB
G08 is on the clock.

Via G08:
I select Walter Payton, RB. His heart, work ethic, drive and endless determination is around what this franchise will be built. He can run, he can catch, he can block and he can throw the ball.

Butkus would have been my other choice if Payton was gone so I certainly understand the logic with the #1 pick. This is the face of, and the tone-setter for, this franchise.

I select Brian Urlacher.

He completely redefined the way the NFL looked at the position. No longer were they two down guys that were only there to stop the run up the middle on 1st or 2nd down. His physicality and ability to shed blocks was often times called into question, but no one was better from sideline to sideline. He is the basis of comparison for every linebacker of our generation.

With Marshall making his pick in the other thread, with the 5th pick in the draft, Otis selects, out of the U of Pittsburg, OT,

Jim "Jimbo" Covert.

8 yr, 83-91, player who was voted captain in his 2nd year on the team. Made the 1980s All Decade Team. He was on 6 Divisional Champ teams and of course a Super Bowl Champion.

JIm Covert. Building up my O line to protect the weakass QB that will probably be on the team.

There was no way I could not pick an icon of humanity. I'll never forget meeting him when I was a kid. It is one of those things that even though it happened over 30 years ago I still remember it. He even let me look at his Super Bowl ring. And he was nothing like the fiery persona he had on the field. He was the nicest guy.

If there is one person that you could pick as the face of Chicago sports the list of candidates to me would be (in no particular order):

Michael Jordan
Mike Ditka - Da Coach would be my pick and I know Jordan has six titles amongst a ton of other accomplishments, but Ditka is My Guy.
Walter Payton
Ernie Banks

You can't go wrong with any of those.

I can’t believe I’m getting this guy.

You have to get after the QB and there’s few who did it as well as my guy...

Bad GMs pay for past performance, the great ones pay for future performance. That’s what I’m doing by selecting my guy. If we re do this in 10 years, there’s a chance he goes top 3. That potential is too good to pass up...so is the opportunity to have Dent and Mack together getting after the QB.

I'm going to go with a franchise legend, who I intend to work in the offense as a versatile threat - HB, FB, maybe even a blocking TE. Couldn't ask for anyone better in short yardage and will be the leader on offense.

HB/FB/TE Bronko Nagurski
