For the record, I think he'd be a decent get for a 6th round pick.Posted by Darin Gantt on October 28, 2019, 12:09 PM EDT
If the 49ers want to move third quarterback C.J. Beathard in the next 28 hours, they’ll apparently have that opportunity.
According to Matt Maiocco of NBCSportsBayArea.com, the 49ers have taken calls from multiple teams offering late-round picks for a guy they’re not using at the moment.
Beathard has been inactive for all seven games this year, after losing the backup job to Nick Mullens. He started 10 games his first two seasons, with mixed results (12 touchdowns, 13 interceptions) for some shabby teams.
Teams are apparently offering picks in the “sixth-round range,” but the 49ers invested a compensatory third-rounder for him in 2017 (104th overall), and seem inclined to keep him.
At least unless someone makes a better offer between now and Tuesday’s 4 p.m. deadline.

In before Twitter starts exploding about how the Bears would be better off with this dude.

I'm not sold on him specifically, but we do need somebody in the wings. Chase is a good backup, but there's nothing there in the long term plans. Bray was a joke as the third stringer, we need young and hungry guys battling it out and developing. We put ALL of our eggs into the Trubiski basket and now we don't even have a shitty backup to clamor for.

I put stock in to names as well, if they go with a guy named Beathard.... they should swap kickers and get Blewitt too.
"Beathard and Blewitt got beat hard and eventually blew it."

Without expressing any love for Tyler Bray... which I have none. Why do we assume he'd be any worse than C.J. Beathard as a backup? The guy looked OK in preseason (composed and reasonably competent) . Everyone knows that was against backups... but more than just backups in the case of the Bears - since Trubisky was completely hidden from scrutiny and Daniel hardly played.
It seems like the only reason Beathard is even a conversation is because he had the chance to put some things on regular season tape due to injury & he didn't look like Jonathan Quinn. But i don't see that Bray wouldn't either. Beathard is only a year younger than Bray. Seems like even a 6th or 7th rounder would be more valuable.

2023 Chicago Bears... emerging from a long hibernation, and hungry!

Bray has a BIG arm, but IMO trading for Beathard would be more of a "hey Mitch, get your shit together" message sending move. Elevating Bray doesn't have the same punch to it that trading for a QB does.
