Most recently Lazor was the OC in Miami and Cincinnati. He was the QB coach at several other places. He didn't even have a job last year, but somehow Nagy is interested in him. Maybe he's one of the few that would be willing to stand on the sidelines and hold a clipboard for Nagy.

Just Yikes! My confidence that Nagy will get this hire right is waning quickly.

I like his name, at the very least.

BWN, who did you or do you realistically expect to take this job? Shurmur was not coming here, I don't care what was put out there. I doubt you get a proven, veteran OC to take this job.

Ragone it will be, in title only.

Being out of the league isn't necessarily indicative of Lazor not being a good candidate. I don't know much about him, aside from him being a hot name a couple years ago, but I'm not going to hold his absence from the NFL over his head.

Bingo, BWN. A guy like Shurmer was never going to be Nagy's whipping boy.

But seriously, folks. Could Lazor be worse at calling plays and personnel usage than Nagy? If Lazor is calling the plays and leaving the cute crap and mad science in the lab...this is an instant upgrade.

Lazor is a smart coach with a LOT of experience working with QBs. He was a college QB at Cornell and worked as a QB coach under many good offensive minds like Holmgren, Gibbs and Kelly. He has better credentials than Ragone.

He also adapted an offense in Cinci so he knows how to tweak an existing system. He has some experience game planning and play calling in college and the AFC.

The Bears weren't going to get a top notch OC with Nagy remaining as the play caller.

Unsuccessful stints with the Dolphins and Bengals do not inspire confidence. Nagy took a JAG so he can basically keep running the show. No excuses, we either show significant improvement next season on offense or Nagy should be fired as should Pace.

I expect some moves this offseason, I don't buy for a second that we're going to sit tight because of our cap situation. These guys know their job is on the line, and it's not their money, so expect them to be aggressive.

Not exciting on paper, but don't think it's a bad hire. Does seem more likely McCarron could be our 2nd QB.

Pace will be headed into the final year of his deal in 2021. If they fire Nagy next year, it's most likely as part of a total overhaul. He's not gonna get his 3rd HC hire in 7 years and basically require another extension with whatever his overall record would have to be that Nagy gets fired.

I think most likely outcome is that the Bears are middling again in 20, Nagy gets a 4th year, and Pace heads into a lame duck scenario, with a potential clean cut after 2021.

Pace didn't hire Fox though. That was Ernie and that firm or whatever they used. Pace would probably get a second hire. His drafts have been decent outside 1st round where he hopefully learns not to take high ceiling guys anymore just get football players.

Pace was hired January 8.

Fox wasn't even fired From Denver until January 12.

It was his hire.

No one has mentioned the Lazor/Dalton connection. I’d be really happy if we signed Andy Dalton.

Apparently he's had success in the run game... 3 of his 4 seasons as a play caller they finished top 10 in yards per rush (2nd, 9th and 8th)

I wouldn't hate Dalton as QB2, but Lazor's history with him was in a completely different system which used the Coryell "number system". I wouldn't anticipate much carry over but his familiarity with Dalton might influence him coming here.

Right there with you. If we have to go the veteran route, we should do everything we can to get Alex Smith. Otherwise, draft somebody in the 2nd round.

The OC on this team doesn't do much but carry Nagy's clubs so we weren't getting any new genius to come here. Lazor is just as good as the next guy I guess. He does have some success in the run game so hopefully he can pitch in there. As for the Dalton connection, Andy had his worst two years under Lazor so I doubt that he's coming here. I am intrigued by the few rumors I saw of Bridgewater possibly coming. If he's not guaranteed the starting job, then I would love that but I think he would almost have to be guaranteed the job to come here. I'd rather see him and MT battle for it. Bridgwater to me, seems to be the better fit for a Nagy offense than MT so it makes some sense.

Bridgewater is going to command a big salary, he's not worth it with his injury history IMO. I feel like he's a sprained ankle away from forced retirement. I don't mind overspending at QB for a year until we can move on from Mitch, but I'd rather we don't take someone with such a major injury risk. If we were going to do that, I'd rather roll the dice on Alex Smith, who has history with Nagy and can definitely run this offense.

I know I'm in a minority here, but I think Dalton would be a major upgrade for us and might do really well for a year or two in Nagy's QB friendly system.

Found this article on him from the 2018 Bengals that discuss his coaching philosophy...

https://www.bengals.com/news/lazor-over ... n-20555917

Seems all over the place...West Coast but with Air Coryell verbiage...

Why does everyone think the OC does nothing here? The OC runs the offense throughout the week and installs the game plans while Nagy's head coaching. Sure the OC doesn't call plays but theres far more to the job than just calling plays. Nagy talked about this during last offseason in his pressers

Most of what I read about this guy is that he's experienced in the RPO and has 15+ years of NFL experience.

It's a ceremonial position anyway.
