Bears OT in the ‘80s, played his whole career with them. 6th pick in the draft out of University of Pittsburgh. Numerous Pro Bowls. On the world championship team. Nominated by the Veterans Committee. Good luck, Jim, not a lot of OL in the Hall.

The secret is to work less as individuals and more as a team. As a coach, I play not my eleven best, but my best eleven.

Wonderful.

He was the best modern Bears' OL. Short career like Sayers, but a truly great player.

Covert got the news by phone, but I enjoy watching the new inductees get the news right from Babe Ruth Baker himself. Amusing to see large men utterly dwarfed by Baker in person.

Good for him.
Apparently went on to become very successful in business after retirement.

(I still rate McMichael's omission as a much greater outrage, though)

He was pn the SCORE for quite a bit this a.m. What I heard was a great interview. He believes OL of today are not as good technique wise as they were back in the day. He said they just don't have the time to spend on it like in the past. Like he said, if OL suck you never hear the end of it. When they are good, you hear about how great the RBs are. He was a big fan of Hiestant and said he was one of the best in the game.

He will be on again this afternoon with McNeil and Parkins.

That's interesting.

I get why they wouldn't "go there" in this type of interview, but I'd have liked to hear if he has an opinion about why the Bear rushing attack was so atrocious, then.

Well deserved.

Now, when does Jay Hilgenberg make it: 12 years, 7 time pro bowl, 5 time all pro.

Joe Fortunato also deserves it: also 12 year vet, 5 time pro bowl, 3 time first team All Pro, 3 time second team All Pro, 1950 all decade team, NFL Champ in '63.

And am I the only one who thinks that Wilbur Marshall deserves it as well?

Covert was elected by the Senior Committee along with defensive end Ed Sprinkle. This gives the Bears 30 guys in the Hall, most of any team. Listening to Covert on the radio yesterday, he described going against Dent, Hampton, and McMichaels in practice and said nothing he faced on Sundays would ever be tougher. A great guy, well deserving of the honor.

Many have commented about Hilgenberg being deserving and I agree. Fortunate played when I was just stating to be a fan, don’t remember him too well but he has great stats. Peanut gets mention, Briggs a little. And then there’s Hester. Best ever at returning.
