The right move... I hope Kwiat goes to Denver.

Pace was at the combine hearing people talk about how much they love Kwit and decided to make a move.

Collect the comp pic on Kwit hopefully.
With Trevathans health lately I strongly consider drafting a ILB, unless you feel strongly about Iggy. And resign KPL.

He’s 29 years old so it’s not like he’s this run down vet. I’m sure Pace went to Kwit to test the waters and he wasn’t willing to take a similar deal.
DT is very respected in the locker room and after cutting Prince, his leadership on D is even more valuable.
I don’t think this has anything to do with Floyd based on the fact that they don’t play the same position.
I’m also very curious to see the money on this...5 mill per year?

I would be willing to bet they threw similar contracts out to both agents and Trevathan gave in first. One gaping hole down, two to go. Sign a G and a S then you can go into the draft BPA. Really you could sign a G and QB then focus on S with one of the 2nd rounders, should be some good ones (Davis, Chinn, Winfield, Dugger) available around our picks. That route also makes sense to put a rookie next to Jackson since he is making so much.

I’m hopeful he can play at a high level for 2-3 more years as Roquan settles in. There might also be another young safety so even more need for vets

I am very good with this signing and my gut says it will be at a pretty easy number on the contract as well. DT is an outstanding player and locker guy but we better have a DAMN good back up because he misses games....sometimes a lot of games. If we can sneak KPL in also as the backup, then this is a superior move. I know we have Iggy and even Josh Woods but those aren't the answers at backup. We need a solid dude behind DT, just in case.

3 year deal, through 2022. He's a really good player, hopefully he can make it through the season without injuries. I can see taking an ILB in a later round for more insurance. I wish Kwit well although, if he signs with the Pack, I hope they grossly overpay for him.
Drafts are like snowflakes, no two are alike.

I guess that whole bring back the players you drafted and developed thing isn’t something the Bears are used to.
smart, instinctive player with the heart of a lion. also takes pressure off Smith to develop immediately for the on-field leadership role he might not be ready for.
I don't believe Danny T has the range others do, but he is sharp knowing where to go. Impressed he is able to play at a good level after 2 major knee procedures.

Meh. They can overpay him if they want to, he showed up late last year but kinda sucked before that and is a liability in coverage. All depends on how he's utilized. I really like their DC though, he'd probably get the most out of Kwit.

He's not THAT good... I just don't want to see him on that fucking team.
Also, agreed on Floyd. Cut his ass and use the $13M on a TE or an OG and SS.

Completely predictable, logical move. DT has played well and at his age, will cost less than Kwit. I think it's silly to throw the comment out about not re-signing our own with Kwit. While it's a good strategy, circumstances matter and we're cap limited. I bet we also re-sign KPL. Further, we already have Woods and Iggy in the pipeline as guys who should improve and be able to contribute if needed.
Other than also bringing KPL back (or a similar FA backup), I don't see why we'd have to do anything significant at ILB. We carried 6 last year, a surplus. We can get by fine with 5. Bring in some TC bodies and undrafteds and maybe we'll get a lucky upgrade of one of the young guys who may not be progressing. But we'll be fine. Not much to do here.

Mikefive's theory: The only time you KNOW that a sports team player, coach or management member is being 100% honest is when they're NOT reciting "the company line".

Kwit is a lesser coverage version of Blake Martinez. They'll get a lift in run support which will make them tough. But their pass rush better get there or Kwit will be chasing somebody.

He turns 30 in 11 days and has had multiple major/season ending injuries. Including one just this past season that he is coming off of.
14 mil in guarantees. No idea how that will be structured.I’m also very curious to see the money on this...5 mill per year?
I would imagine there's an option to get out after either year #1 or year #2.

This feels like a bad deal. They have to draft one now at some point.
