I hope all the guarantee is up front, and here is to the hope that between him and Burton we get 1 solid TE's worth of production out of the two of them.
They would have been better off paying Kwit that much to play TE.

It's not a very inspiring move.

I hate this. He hasn't played well in 2 years and is 34...someone save my hair from being yanked out and explain why this is good.

It's like we are trying to get older and worse. Between this and the Kwit/DT move I just don't get it.
Granted our TE production was about as bad as possible, but Olsen would have been a better option along with being more sentimental if we are just going to fart in the wind.

It's not like the Rogers era Packers has been great for tight ends. As a stopgap, this isn't terrible.
I'm not exactly sporting wood over this move.
But I could put a bag over his head for now, and maybe it grows into something.

Bleh. Obviously we need TE help, but not 34 YO Graham at 8M per.

It's a one-year stop gap measure in case Burton doesn't recover his health and his form. Next season they can keep the one that produces the most around for another year or dump both if they want.
Still, $9m in guarantees is going to eat up another sizeable chunk of cap space this year even with half of any signing bonus counting against next year. It's a lot of money for a declining player.

Maybe between the two we'll get a full season of production at the critical position on offense. I kinda get it, was kinda/sorta my reasoning behind wanting Olsen to come back. Surprised at the price though, thought he'd come cheaper.

Yea as far as trying to patchwork a TE crew together I don't hate Jimmy, but that contract value seems very high.
Then again I think I've been low in pretty much every contract I've ever speculated at this offseason.

Right here with you. Just the other day, I was teasing Packer fan son about what a waste of cap space Graham was for them. And then he walks in to tell me he's our cap problem now. Mikefive's theory: The only time you KNOW that a sports team player, coach or management member is being 100% honest is when they're NOT reciting "the company line".

I’m trying to find something redeeming about this. Anything.
The only thing I can come up with, is that the Bears have a relatively young offense and Graham brings some veteran leadership? I guess?

If you compare it to the 12M over 2 years Pace paid for Dion Sims, this is positively brilliant by comparison!

This is horrible. My confidence in Ryan Pace is waning quickly. I have been a staunch defender of him, until now.

Ditto. This may be as bad a signing as Deon Sims.Bears Whiskey Nut wrote: ↑Mon Mar 16, 2020 8:07 pm This is horrible. My confidence in Ryan Pace is waning quickly. I have been a staunch defender of him, until now.

Oh look, a Saints connection! Too bad this isn't fucking 2013.
I don't understand what they're doing unless he's some sort of fucking mentor for Cole Kmet.

uh...um...ok...how about: Sometimes an aging veteran player can reach back for one final season as nearly the player he once was.
I'm gone. Have a nice life. I'm clearly not wanted here.

Well Graham did have more yards and TDs than all the Bears TEs combined last season... so yay?
