Mariota to Vegas. Folks don’t seem to think this moves Carr out though.

More likely as a backup and potential starter if Carr totally falls on his face. Interesting to see how a competent GM handles a QB situation he perceives as a potential problem.

Mike Mayock is the GM in Vegas and yes, I think he is a competent GM (especially when compared to Pace).

True, but with Gruden's 10 year contract he is essentially the GM or the czar.Wounded Bear wrote: ↑Tue Mar 17, 2020 4:52 amsouthdakbearfan wrote: ↑Mon Mar 16, 2020 9:49 pm

I doubt that Mariotta is being brought in as anything more than a Taysom Hill type of sub package player for LV. He's still young and can make plays with his feet and can run a few scripted plays to take advantage of certain defenses. Nice luxury to have for a team with a 4000 yard passer.
I will kill you if you cut me at the knees. You will drink with me when invited and stay til I say so. We only listen to American Music. I make men nervous with just my presence. I expect an apology if you hold. I throw linemen at QB's. Believe the Lore!

The Detroit Lions got to work on reshaping their defensive line in adding Nick Williams to a reported two-year deal worth $10 million
I got some skepticism, but I was right that he was going to make some real money after his performance last year, and that it would be a choice between him and RRH.

That RRH / Williams decision was purely about $$. RRH did look better with Hicks playing - so I can understand the decision even though absent all variables I consider Williams more valuable. $5MM a year? Nope - not for a backup.

Every player being signed this week is going to be overpaid, that's just how free agency works. We'd be better off waiting and signing players after the initial wave of activity, but then fans would all be screaming about how we're sitting on our hands. Can't win. As much as I want to move on from Trubisky, I do not want to pay ass loads of cash to some scrub or geriatric QB. I'd prefer drafting Hurts or Fromme in the second to that - by a mile.
My only complaint right now is that if we were going to get one "necessity" position in this overpay phase of free agency, I wanted that person to play OL. Instead we spent a lot of cash on an old TE who even when in his prime couldn't block. Frustrating.
Danny's deal was fair, esp seeing how much money is flying around right now, so no complaints there.

Floyd for Newton. I'm calling it now....even though I don't like it.
Also - Chase Daniel continues to make money somehow. He's signing with the Lions.

Am I the only one who believes we are rolling with Trubisky, a low end backup and maybe a low round draft pick at QB? I wont be upset if I'm wrong which is probably very likely. Just curious as everyone seems so positive we grab a bigger name

At this very moment, that's the only option the Bears have. They only have like 4mil of cap space.HurricaneBear wrote: ↑Tue Mar 17, 2020 11:05 am Am I the only one who believes we are rolling with Trubisky, a low end backup and maybe a low round draft pick at QB? I'm starting to think it's going to be that and a R2 QB selection.HurricaneBear wrote: ↑Tue Mar 17, 2020 11:05 am Am I the only one who believes we are rolling with Trubisky, a low end backup and maybe a low round draft pick at QB? Mikefive's theory: The only time you KNOW that a sports team player, coach or management member is being 100% honest is when they're NOT reciting "the company line".

The problem is, there's not very many low end backups left. And unless the Bears do something with Floyd, they don't have enough cap space.

When I say low end i'm thinking like Tyler Bray level. There's tons of those out there. I just get the feeling that Pace/Nagy are trusting year 1 Nagy was reality and year 2 was the fluke and are going all in with the current group we have, plus a few minor tweaks. Not saying I like it, not sure I hate it either, not really sure how to feel about it, but it's definitely the feeling i'm getting.

That could be Pace's ploy to buy more time - "did you see him flash? We need 2 more years to see what he can do".
But C/G, CB, OLB, and SS are all missing starters. Spending a 2 on a backup QB feels like either a) Counting on Trubisky to be the almost the whole difference almost all by himself, or b) just giving up on the season (buying time, as above).

Graham/burton/hurst fill the TE spot.
Tolliver starts at cb.
S is the spot I can’t figure. Bush resign? HaHa discount?
Qb and c/g round two leaves the rest of the draft to fill holes.

QB market getting thin. Rivers to the Colts and Teddy B to the Panthers.
